Saw Sammy VOA in ‘84, loved the HSAS album (bought it) when I heard VH broke up I thought Sammy would be awesome if he were their new lead singer(even before Farm Aid) when it happened I was blown away.

The best years of music (for me) we from 1978 to 1985. So many good bands. Sammy, Triumph, Benatar, Loverboy, just tons of good music.

Cool! My old band in the early 90's did a cover of Sammy Hagar's Turn up the Music. It was a fun song live and went over quite well with the crowd..and many didn't know who it was originally from but knew the song.

Sammy opened running down cat walk holering " We're gonna get this place as red as it will get !!! " Whole show was wide open !!! Sammy plays a mean guitar and he sure can sing !! Glad he and Micheal stayed friends !! We gotta hang to these great musicians long as we can !!! Thanks Sammy for all the killer tunes and memories !!! I got mugged after that show in Atlanta, I caught one of em !!! Got my Blue Oyster Cult shirt back !!! HE he he ! It was worth it !!!

@@billsimmons5186 the first van hagar was damn good. Too bad it couldn’t have been a one and done and he returned to his VOA band cuz all the follow up album’s were largely duds with 20% of the songs being great.

Saw this tour in Jan of ‘79 in Roanoke Va ... and down on the floor Sammy rocked, it was a hell of a show ... Boston as well ... the electricity went off several times that night ... it was snowing like crazy outside ... but the biggest thing to me was that Red Deluxe Les Paul of Sammy’s ... wanted a red Les Paul from the moment I saw it. A very long time ago

I first saw a small portion of this on The Old Grey Whistle Test decades ago when presenter Annie Nightingale announced Sammy Hara playing Bad Motor Scooter at the Huston Summit. It was electric and we had both the good old fashioned guitar duel as well as Bill Church's bass solo. I never saw any other footage from this concert until today and it made my day. Surely somebody somewhere has the whole gig. There is far too little concert footage from Sammy's early years and what there is always satisfies. There much be so much more in the vaults that Sammy should release before he pops his clogs.

Too bad they didn't record "Young Girl Blues" for this TV show. I saw them a week earlier in West Virginia & recall Sammy's E-bow solo accompanied by Alan Fitzgerald on keyboards (who also played background keys with Van Hagar in the 90s, right?).
@daviderickson8699

You are correct. That gig must have been when Jack Blades left Night Ranger for Damn Yankees? What a tangled web. Fitz replaces Bill Church on bass for Montrose, then follows Bill Church to join Sammy Hagar on keys. Then goes to Night Ranger (where the lead singers are the bass player and drummer), but leaves to gig for Van Hagar, since Blades formed a bad with Sammy's buddy Nugent and Tommy Shaw. Personally I always liked Jesse Harms on keyboards and as a song writing collaborator with Sammy. Whatever happened there robbed the world of some good music...

In "Bad Motor Scooter," Sammy starts on the lap / slide, sings and then engages in an extended solo and battle showing as good of licks as most bands' lead guitarist in that day. Announcer follows with: "In the NEXT segment, Sammy shows his versatility..."

I have to agree. I loved solo Sammy and I loved Van Halen, but I just couldn't get on with Van Hagar. Sammy wasn't Sammy anymore and Van Halen wasn't Van Halen anymore. The magic of both acts vanished. On paper it works, but not in reality.
