As someone who drove truck and ran in and out of the Laredo Trade Zone for years. Trucks are stolen there a lot. Drivers could have been part of a theft ring to boost the trucks then have plausible deniability. Saw it happen to a Werner Driver first hand. Lots of dos and donts at the border Trade Zones, you learn the more you pickup and deliver to them

As a former transportation company owner who shipping product into mexico thru laredo,tx i can tell you it's problematic. the U.S. cannot send trucks into mexico it has to be dropped off in laredo at a warehouse and then transferred onto a mexican carrier. In this case however a mexican carrier can come straight into the U.S. and deliver directly. The problem was always the cartels trying to steal product and /or hide people in the trucks to cross over to american soil. I will say to carry liquor in the US you have to be heavily insured and for a lot of companies was a deal breaker. Insurance in US for liquor is very costly.

If police have talked to the drivers then how can they not know where the trucks were last seen? It sound like that should be the end of the story. Everyone here jumping to the 'inside job" or "insurance scam" - think of how stupid that would be for these two mega-rich celebrities to risk everything for a million dollar payment. Of course their case will bring more scrutiny and attention than most and of course anything so outlandish would be easily found out, sinking each of their careers. Neither of these guys need another half million dollars so badly that they would pull a boneheaded criminal fraud attempt to get it.

Sounds like a bad marketing ploy. Both drivers rerouted to a spot in california is odd. Trailers get dropped then cargo dissappear? Sound like a way for media attention to drive the margin on whats on the shelves. Then backdoor your margin with the sell of the missing cases. Trailer get stolen all the time.
