The Sammy Miller's Museum has an annual 2 stroke day, where 2 stroke motorcycle enthusiasts come from all over to show off and view other amazing 2 stroke bikes.
I decided to make the 100 mile trip. The museum is amazing and the 2 stroke turn out was brilliant. Lots of Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas and Hondas, as well as some super rare bikes. There was even a Langen.
A brilliant day and I will certainly be returning to go the the actual museum to see their 500 + bike collection.
The Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum is an independent museum in New Milton, Hampshire, England. It was set up by Sammy Miller in 1996 , his first museum being 10 mins down the road which opened in 1983. Sammy is still very much at the helm, in the workshop 5/6 days week. He is best known for being the former championship winning observed trials rider.

After seeing advertised on Facebook the Sammy Miller's 2 stroke celebration day, I considered making the long journey of over 100 miles, through the New Forest to the museum. I'd not visited previously, nor even heard of this place. Without any doubt with over 500 motorcycles and lots of motoring memorabilia, it's fantastic.
The roads on my journey were fantastic, mainly A31 and on a big 2 stroke 500, it was really enjoyable.
I was not disappointed by the turnout. There were lots and lots of bikes, lots classic 2 strokes, from Kawasaki classics, such as the KH range and KR1S and a couple of bikes from the 1940s and even one from 1914. I saw 2 other Suzuki RG500s and chatted to Dave, a lovely owner of a mint, race prepared RG500. Also bumped into Mark, the guy I bought my RG400 from. He was on a mint RG500, in blue and white, 2 ups with his girlfriend. Brave girl!
Absolutely brilliant day out, the bike performed brilliantly.

Rich, brilliant video! Thought you might show the awesome 1967 Suzuki RS67 125 GP bike at the Sammy Miller museum. It was a 90 deg L4 with rotary valve induction, plus a 12 speed gearbox. Produced 42 bhp at 16500 rpm. Some pretty famous riders rode the RS67. Beautiful T125 Stinger..had one many moons ago. That one should have had disk valves but they did the simple piston port treatment. Insane BMW with a Polaris three cyl two stroke....180 bhp!? What's with all those free roaming horses!? They're a bloody nightmare for any rider!

Thanks for watching and sharing your knowledge of the fantastic bikes down there. Yes, the snowmobile was a very interesting project. I'd like to know how rideable it is. The New Forest is like a large Moor, for some reason, horses and cows are set free to roam around. Cheers!

Hopefully I'll have my Skoal bandit RG500 ready by then. Some fantastic bikes. I think my favourite was actually the little Monet Goyon. I'd never seen one before and it was just so unique and loved by its owner.

Thanks so much for watching. So pleased to hear that you enjoyed it. That day was a long journey and a thoroughly enjoyable day. I've just installed a brand new dry clutch, so ready for this Spring. When I bought mine in 1991, the bodywork was a dog, so I went down the hybrid route, rather than stock. I love it, but a hard journey, especially the forks. Much better with originals. Super video that and loved the big Gamma's. Was great bringing back memories of some super 2-strokes that I owned. Had a few 50 & 100cc's & 125's including an RG125(de-restricted & capable of 103mph💨), but my favourite had to be my Candy Blue RD250LC. Before moving up to 4-strokes I'd a TDR250 which was interesting, but there was just something about my LC 💙🥇

Hi Rich, I hope you don’t mind me asking this but my RG500 is slowly leaking two stroke oil into the belly pan and then the garage floor. Is this why owners fit one way valves and if so could you point me in the right direction of where to get some please? I read the RD500LC items can be used however I looked on the Yamaha microfiche and I can’t find them! Cheers

Hi Ian. Don't mind you asking at all. The issue you'd have if you needed check valves would be that the bike would run poorly, as it would over oil. Mine spat tons of oil out of the exhausts. You are correct, RD500 check valves solve this: www.cmsnl.com/products/check-valve_8ch1316a00/ If you are getting oil in the bellypan. Firstly, are you sure 100% it's 2 stroke? Obviously you could have a gasket leak, then gearbox oil, but assuming it is 2 stroke, I'd check the output pipe between the exhausts. I've heard from Scott, on the RG500 GAMMA forum that it is a weak point. I've had 2 stroke oil a couple of times, it was simply where I'd overfilled the tank, then elevated the front or back wheel. It only need to go up a little to give enough angle for oil to leak out the top. Hope you get it sorted 👍

@@RG500_detectorist thanks so very much indeed Rich. I’m fairly sure it’s 2 Stroke oil by the colour. So I need four off fitted in line from the tank? I’m currently changing the neutral switch and trying locate its termination point to unplug from the loom. While I’m at I bought the billet cover that supports the gear shaft better from PF. I hope to take the bike to Mark. I know you have gone a long way with mods from them. I will keep my bike fairly standard I think. I’m amazed you kept your machine all these years I’m so impressed by that. I also had an RD500LC 90 to 92 but it seized up on me twice due to a problem with one cylinder. However I loved that bike and on reluctant sale I struggled to get 2 grande for it. So wish I had kept it C246 JAL! Afterwards I bought an RG400 in 92. from Bat Motorcycles. It was great but slow and again at sale time I got £1200…

@ianhoyle8459 as I say I don't think you just see the oil, it should run really bad, Fitting check valves isn't a bad idea in any case. Yes, Mark helped me another to get it running good. I found the 500 a little tame until tune at 570. Now it's got capability beyond me, which is how I like it. 👍 Keep me posted on your progress 👍
