Filmed Pre-covid. Happy Sunday everyone! In this video we are exploring Croatia’s northern region, Istria. Istria has a beautiful coastline with a heavy Italian influence. (Croatia meets Italy...what could be better than that?!) This video makes it into my top 5 favs so far, hope you enjoy. 💞!
@davidetoffoletto99813 жыл бұрын
Istria has a heavy Italian influence because cities like Rovigno were inhabitate by over 97% autoctonous Italian speaking people since 1000 years... Venetian and Italian architecture is everywhere, did you wonder why? Search in Wikipedia for Exodus Giuliano about how Croatia and Slovenia killed the Italians of this region

Why do you have to qualify "Pre-Covid?" I watch these kinds of videos as an escape. Don't want to see masks or any weirdness. Don't want to even hear the word "Covid" honestly. Just fun and possibilities.

Nice video... thanks! Actually the region of Istria lies in three countries: Croatia, Slovenia and Italy. By far the largest portion (89%) lies in Croatia. "Croatian Istria" is divided into two counties, the larger being Istria County in western Croatia. Important towns in Istria County include Pula, Poreč, Rovinj, Pazin, Labin, Umag, Motovun, Buzet, and Buje. The northwestern part of Istria lies in Slovenia: it is known as Slovenian Istria, and includes the coastal municipalities of Piran/Pirano, Izola, and Koper. North of Slovenian Istria, there is the smallest portion of Istria, the Italian, which consists of the comunes of Muggia and San Dorligo della Valle with Santa Croce (Trieste) lying farthest to the north.

Thanks for showcasing Istria. However, I have decided not to include it in my Croatia road trip as I don't find it appealing as other parts of the country. I believe these videos help not only in showing people what to see if they do plan to go, but also show people to make up their mind to whether they should include them in their plans or not.

All you see is italian-venetian, occupied by Jugoslavia in 1945 and by Croatia in 1991. These old towns are really italian!!!

Well my grandmother was born in Sumber Istra. She became a citizen in four countries and never moved. Borders change in Europe. I grew up in Labin, plenty of non Italian history there as it goes back 4K years
@louisefun30953 жыл бұрын
@@frankbutaric3565 Well I assume your grandmother was born before 1945, so she was born in Sumberg, Istria, Kindom of Italy correct? If she was born before 1920, she was born in Schömberg, Istrien, Kaisertum Österreich. Sumber is the slavicized version of the correct German name of the village Schömberg.
@marinamaras40673 жыл бұрын
Istria had many rulers,not all of them were italian-venetian. After all, Croats live there from 7th century. As for occupation, you've lost many lands including colonies. That happens when you loose wars.
@louisefun30953 жыл бұрын
@@marinamaras4067 That is wrong, Croats haven t lived there from rhe 7th century. They settled there under Venetian rule, most of them came in the 17 century as refugees from Turkish occupied land. The Venetians gave them land and houses in some interior villages, you read all that in historic documents, read the books about Istria.

@@louisefun3095 Most of them...buahahahah... at least read wikipedia: Romans( end 476), Bizantine empire (Greeks),Ilirians (natives), Slavics in 7th century, Venetians in 13th centuary, Napoleon (todays France), Austro-Hungarian empire (Austria-large part of todays Italy) and many more.Kingdom of Italy between I. and II.second world war.
