I won the 2003 Normanton barra comp on a imitation nilsmaster spearhead in blue/yellow belly, hooks broke and landed the winner with the only hook left on the back treble, still got the lure

I took out an 80g Kachi Kachi Dama on a Moreton charter recently.. I outfished everyone on the boat by a large margin.. the slow wind is the best, and by slow I mean super slow wind, no rod action, and also once hooked limit your pump and wind action, just wind and hold tension in the line or you risk pulling hooks..

Hey Sammy. This is very hard to believe but my PB 78cm flathead was caught on a left over BBQ snag with three gang hooks threaded through it. Fishing from the bank and just left it float in the current. I called it the Berkley Banger. What a lure. 🤣

Another excellent show Sammy. The saviour for me has been the Berkley Gulp 5 inch minnow in pink and black. On days when the Snapper are fairly much shut down, a few casts with this soft plastic close to dark has resulted in a good keeper around 2-4 kg on quite a few occasions. Cheers.

that lure you used is called Tai Kabura or Tai Rubber in Japan (Tai meaning seabream). They are used primarily for snapper/sea bream and other rock fish. You use them by simply reeling them in slow and dropping down to the bottom again, as opposed to jigging. There are many different variations and combinations you can use with the colors. The round weight is the "rubber" and the colorful skirts are called "neckties" . nice fishing btw!

we fish a lot with those kabura lures for snapper. one additional tip: put a live worm on each hook so you have 2 long "worm" tentacles hanging. the snapper go crazy

The best thing about Rodney is he is like a good father to a little kid. Hooks up on the fish but passes off the reeling in of the rod every time. Rodney never wants to reel one in himself. 😉

My best lure save would have to have been me using Pillies and yabbies off my local wall but I was getting no hits on the bait so I decided I may as well put a lure on but I only had a big swim bait (mullet presentation) and I was very hesitant to use it but I convinced myself to have a couple throws with it first throw got a 65cm flattie 🤙🤣 Love the channel cheers Sammy 🙂🙂

Hey Sammy, fishing Lake Lyell, near Lithgow, everyone using vibes, spinner baits and hard bodies for Bass, Trout and Redfin with no luck. Popped on a soft plastic in a worm pattern and got a good catch of Redfin up to 2.3kg. Was unexpected but like you said it happens sometimes.

Great video champion, went out bream fishing with a Heap of expensive hard bodies and got nothing for two hours, threw on a Zman Motor oil grub and landed 12 bream in two hours. Grub saved the day.

The Kiwis swear by those Kabura / Tai rubber rigs. Plenty of vids on here where they catch big snapper on them when nothing else is working. I just bought a bunch. Apparently the go is just to leave them in the rod holder or gently retrieve, and don’t strike when you get hit, just wind. Can’t wait to try them out.

In greece it's an actual fishing method for snapper named 'Tai Rubber' Tai in japanese is a type of red snapper,we use it here for our mediterranean snappers its super effective! as the ball (weight) leaves behind the small plastic like tentacles it mimics a falling squid when it hits the bottom you start to retrieve it takes a few seconds to connect with yr weight so fish sense/see and they go check it out only to find a squid like creature thats going away so they strike it,thats how its known here (: just some local knowledge Sammy i thought you might find this interesting to know. Had a very poor day of catching undersize snapper for 5hrs, not even 1 keeper and about 40 throw backs. Seen some fish busting up on the way home and threw out the metal minnow about 5cm long. It got smashed by 3 salmon and a pike in under 10min. It completely saved the day and you can find them in almost every fish shop bargain bin for less than $5 too.

I was chasing school mackerel with a halco twisty and wasn't get anything. So i changed to a zman peal/ blue glimmer 3" minnow and started catching school mackerel one after another. The biggest was 64cm.

Those lures are called Sliders or Kabura’s in NZ they fish them for snapper here all the time by dropping to the bottom the just an ultra slow wind up if no hits drop back down and repeat.

Found a massive school of probably 100 plus barras all around a meter plus long. Worked them for a few days an couldn’t get a touch with lures or live bait.. used every lure in the box.. put a $5 weird paddle tail plastic on from big w. Cracked 2 barras. One was 84cm an the other was 97cm. Lol 😂

try this home made gig first tie you a hook on 100 lb test then one or two trolling skirt pink or white or glow or shinny now put them on backwards or up side down then your egg sinker 8 or 10 inch then a swivel tie your assist hooks to the swivel then drop it down when it hits bottom jig it up it will flare out 1or 2 or 3 stream down your going to get a lot of action i bet them snapper will tear it up i would like to see the video it works on red grouper here in fla. i think you call them cod you can put a light or a rattle or put a piece of bait you might need to use some beads around the sinker try it and see if it works

I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

So on the have I caught a whole bunch of fish on a lure I didn’t expect to I don’t often use lures this is no doubt a bad thing however I was in Urunga last September fishing in the town at a fishy little annex to estuary down from the pub at night and I had prawns and an afterthought bread so the bream totally on the chew with bread ended up ditching the prawns and just fishing with the bread for a few good sessions

You should get the wearable kill switch. Fall off anywhere on the boat engine stops. Give you a chance at self rescue if the motor is on.

Sammy, love your work, as per usual matey. Now then, it was great to see you taking great care to do your best by the fish you decided to take home, but there's something else you can do to make it even better. I live in Okinawa, Japan, and as you can imagine, these guys have this sort of thing down to an art form. My mate Brandon (The Akajin Hunter on KZbin) recently put a short demo vid together. I reckon you'd get a lot out of it. I don't know if Berkeley Aus do the wires, but we could always work something out if you wanted one from here.
