@@LiftedNoise having no prior experience with MPCs I’m still very much in the infancy stages of learning the 500, ie acquiring a library of sounds, figuring out how to best organize everything, understanding mute groups, making a sequence etc. It’s a foreign language at the moment for sure! With all that said, I’d definitely check out the finger drumming on 500 video 10x lol. You having a 500 is great for everyone trying to get better on one. Don’t sell it!

A little story for you brother. I’ve been spinning and making music for a good 25 years, started producing music (purely for myself) over 20 years I got into software production very early on, I had a buddy come over to my place to get some pointers on using Cubase just basically watching me work and after me sculpting a kick waveform he said “do you always spend this much time looking at looking at your music?” I got me a MPC a month later!

Glad to see you back on the 500. It's still my preferred choice for traveling and working away from my studio. The converters are surprisingly good on it as well.

Yea it's definitely been awhile. I was taking the 404 around mostly but now this has my attention. With some fat pads on it fingerdrumming is great. I've made a few kits with it and the 12 pad layout is actually perfect. It does sound good to me. Other then the noisy input when sampling, not really noticeable after recording. Although that self Boise can be sort of interesting if you leave a bit on the tail of the sample. Makes the kits sounds cohesive. 🍻

@@LiftedNoise If you like the 500, it's chopping by ear and how you create on it then you would love the 3000 workflow. Just imagine a large 500 with eight outputs and 16 pads, a filter but minus internal effects, which aren't needed as you send you sounds and sequence out from the MPC to your mixer with the outboard effects. Everything makes sense on the 3K if you have used a 500. I didn't have to look at a tutorial. I hope that you get to at least showcase one on your channel but hopefully have one of your own. I know that you would just love it.

You own an iPad, you have 10 apps to make beat installed on your device with gigas of samples but the inspiration is 0. That’s my case. I was yesterday bored thinking about what new app should I buy. Than I realized “wait, I have a MPC500”. 😂 Just plugged everything ON and spent hours on the 500. Time was flying after I realize that I could use the iPad as Synth, Drum Machine, Audio source with KZbin, music library, Sample Storage. Using apps like ThumbJam with a sampler is heaven. 🔥

Just learning my SP404 MK-2. Making me want to bust out my 500 again! Lol. I apologize if i missed it, but what did you say your main reasons for this being your favorite MPC, again? Back in 2007, i was at a crossroads between getting my 1st MPC 200XL or the MV8800 and I chose the Roland route, in retrospect, i think maybe I would have been better off getting the MPC as I had wanted one for the longest due to the inspiration of my favorite producers and I ended up not going with my gut 😢

I think mainly because it challenged me to use my ears, so there was an apparent level up of abilities that I am grateful for. It also has this unassuming ability to preview samples while also playing samples on the pads. This also I think made me look at sampling different. I was doing collage like sampling for the first time. Rather than just one sampling source and helped me appreciate the value of samples selection. Seems like a minimal thing but my mpc 1000 couldn't do it. It's now just a common capillary in new mpcs and other samplers.

@envisagefilmshouston no feel it for sure. Mpc live is definitely the goto but the 500 is just a nostalgia thing for me. I'm not really messing with it. Got it tucked away.
