Thank you, Sue! It's always a pleasure. Seniors are staying active and cognitively fit in San Antonio as a result of all of the great arts programming available.

this is a really fantastic lesson. i love your use of the early developmental instruction methodologies- keeping the content and movements almost the same as you would for children- but keeping it relevant to them so it doesn't feel so adolescent. this lesson really helped shake my regret about the undergrad degree i earned in music education, and a lot more confident about the grad program in music therapy i'm pursuing

I'm just now seeing the comments. Thanks, Richard! I hadn't based the session on early childhood education philosophies, but this reminds me of something Judith Jellison once told me. I was interested in pursuing a PhD in music education/therapy, but told her I preferred to work with adults. (I felt like the degree program was more oriented toward children.) She told me, "You know, children become adults . . ." and good teaching principles are good principles. I hope your degree program is going well! I finished my masters equivalency program at Colorado State in 2000, and then did a master of music and human learning with Dr. Jellison at the University of Texas at Austin in 2006 - both amazing experiences.

Hello! I’m a high school student that is really considering going into music therapy (possibly at TWU), but I would be lying if I said I’m not scared to major in music, as much as music is my life (specifically classical music - I play piano and oboe). I’m guess I’m worried I won’t be good enough… But anyway, I know I’m super late commenting on this, but does anyone have any tips or anything to give me? About pursuing music therapy/majoring in music? Thanks! :)

I really thought I had responded to this a while back - my apologies. Are there any board-certified music therapists in your area? One might agree to have you come to observe. Check out Creative Vibes MT for a great KZbin channel with a lot of music therapy videos including some "Day in the Life" posts that might help. www.youtube.com/@CreativeVibesMT
