Oh don’t feel bad about crying!! My daughter is 30 and I cry when I get off the phone with her! I love her so much😊...oh....what a lovely tribute to samplers !! I’m looking forward to this month and watching all of the pics on Instagram. I’m still plugging away on Elizabeth Sheffield.....but that hasn’t stopped me from starting 3 more samplers! Thanks so much for all the great info on samplers!

What a fascinating episode. Thank you so much for focusing on samplers. I was never interested in stitching reproduction samplers until I started watching flosstube and seeing how much many really enjoyed stitching them. I began looking closer at them and realized that they are beautiful. I just started my first reproduction sampler last month on my birthday. It's the Dorothy Preston 1752 Sampler from Sampler and Antique Needlework, Vol. 1 book. It's gorgeous. Also, it's so mind-blowing to stitch something that was stitched by a 10-year-old girl 267 years ago.

Those samplers are inspiring. I am also working on Miss Mary Anne Bourne but am wanting to work on Agnes Platt, I love the border and motifs. I do love houses, big red houses. Thank you for sharing another video with wonderful ideas. I have at least 2 Samplers that I will start in September! Also I have a wonderful son that reminds me of yours. He is living at home for now, going to school. He is such a wonderful helper as my hubby is disabled from a stroke, and I’m battling the evil cancer crap. Cross stitching is my stress release! Love it !

Hi, Theresa! My Mama's heart aches for you as your miss your boy ( and Peaches). I am joining you in Sampler September!! I am so excited.. I am not on Instagram ( probably one of the only people in AMerica without a smart phone :0 ) I am currently working on Sarah Braizear from Hands a cross the Sea and as I was watching you, I was stitching on your Ann Dale.. She is SO lovely. I converted the colors to match the ones on the front cover photo--- more rusty than rosy. I am having a blast.. Looking forward to seeing you again

Wow-another mom here who shed buckets of tears these past two days. My youngest, now a college graduate, moved to follow his dreams which makes me absolutely thrilled! Trouble is that we live in Northern Virginia and he now resides in Los Angeles, California. That’s not exactly a nice day drive away. I just try to keep busy and remind myself that this is the journey for him that we always dreamed of. I, however, am lost in a sea of Kleenex all over my house. My poor nose is raw from blowing it so much. Stitching also helps as long as I keep Flosstube babbling in my ears. Currently, I am finishing up a sweet little sampler from an old magazine that I spruced up the colors on. I joined the “Sampler September” group and have spent the day picking out which samplers will find their way onto my hoop this month. Can’t wait to jump in! (And thanks for the super sale on repro samplers on your website! Looking forward to a date with Elizabeth Wood, 1822.)

As I am watching you and your asking if we watch every week, I am shaking my head yes. Like you can see me! I do watch everyone of your flosstube. I love the sampler Mary Clayton by Hands Across the Sea. There is something about it that just calls to me. My son move to Colorado about 11 years ago. He now has a family we try to travel there a few times a year and I cry every time I have to leave. So no matter how old they are they are still our children. ♥️

Hi, Theresa! I'll be stitching along with you this month. I generally stitch samplers more than anything else, and have even been fortunate enough to buy a couple of antiques to display in my home. For September, I've set stitching goals for some of my reproduction wips. And since I'm a September baby, I've also started a new sampler, Heaven Above by Midsummer Night Designs, that will serve as a remembrance piece for some family members that have passed on. I hope you have a great week!

I want to stitch the Three Things Sampler by Moira Blackburn. It will be my first. You hit the nail on the head when you described the evolution of my stitching. I’ve always loved the story of history. Samplers fit right into that love. In 2017, we were flooded by hurricane Harvey. My in-laws live just across the street and both houses took on almost 4 ft. Of water. As we removed all the things, I saw two samplers that were made by my mother in laws mother. She, my mother in law, is 86 years old now, so no telling how old the pieces are to date. I have been in the family for more than 20 years and I can’t tell you all the things I saw for the first time but those took my breath away. Just wanted to share. Hope you have a great week!

Hey Theresa! For Sampler September, I started the S. Ward kit which I purchased last September from you and I am loving it! Even though I have been stitching for over 30 years, mostly samplers, I would like to try a Hands Across the Sea pattern but they look a bit complicated with specialty stitches and stitched on 40 count or higher. They intimidate me since I can only see 32 count with magnification and bifocals! But perhaps you could recommend one to me. My favorite designs are by Blackbird which I have done over many years. I love your videos and I have watched them all, sometimes twice ! Thank you for the sampler viewing at the end of this video, along with the beautiful classical music. Thank you so much! xo

I've just ordered Harriet Salt from HATS, a Bristol orphanage sampler. Can't see to stitch such a big sampler on 40 count without migraines so I plan to stitch it on 32 or even 28 which would be close to a square yard in size and then finish it as a quilted wall hanging.

You asked if we watch all your videos? I sure do, right from the get-go. Some I've watched twice so I could take notes, make a list of charts I want to stitch. I'm delighted to hear you'll be putting up a video every week in Sept. Yahoo. I'm approaching the finish line onCaroline Broomhead, 1838 by Plum Street. I'll be starting 3 new ones: A Savior's Praise by you know who, Esther Iddison, & Merrily, Merrily We Welcome Spring. That's the lineup so far. I so enjoyed this latest video, the evolution of stitching, your insights into the world of designers and the challenges they face when they release their artwork. I never fail to learn something new from your videos, so I thank you for sharing all your knowledge, it's much appreciated. Having our kids leave home and start their adult journey is so hard but it will get easier. Promise.

So happy to see a new flosstube from you so soon. I have the Lucy Snushall chart. I love the quote on it. I have a terrible time choosing fabric and threads because it is so hard to tell colors, texture, drape, etc. online and I do not have a local needlework shop. I got to visit The Attic last March and Lucy jumped out at me, but I didn’t have the presence of mind (or budget) at the time to choose fabric and fibers. Just started using a bit of silk (and LOVE it), but can be sooo pricey to complete a whole project using same. Many of the quotes on samplers make me cringe and not a fan of Adam and Eve, but I’ve seen many a sampler without- so many to choose from (or from which to choose). Graham is a doll. Best of luck to him on his new adventures! Good to see you, Sally in Northern California 😁

I have joined the Country Sampler schoolgirl sampler club and am stitching yours through them. I also just ordered a couple through your site. I tend to stitch seasonal items for my home but realized recently that I have had a totally white on white sampler by Eileen Bennet on my wall for decades. I had taken the class with her at a Spirit of Crossstitch Festival class back in the 1990s. You are right-it is a relief to stitch these compared to hardanger and fancy stitches all over. My kids live in my city and I still feel like crying when they leave-not that I want them living with me either!! 😂 I think living a few houses down the street would be perfect!! Hi Theresa, it was so good to see you today!! I had forgotten that you said you were going to be coming around more often for Sampler September. I love it!! I am so sorry you are having the empty-nest blues. Please feel free to tell Graham that your stitchy friends say he should call/text often to help you slowly get used to this new life-change., He's a great guy, I'm sure he will be keeping in touch as much as his schedule will allow! I've been through the empty nest myself and felt that hole that develops inside. I'm not an emotional person at all and I never thought it would bother me in the least, but it took me a couple of weeks to get past it. Oh, and I might add here that my daughter had married and moved a whole two miles down the road at the time! Ha!!! Yep, a whole two miles!! ;-) It's obviously a motherly thing! I'm praying for you!! So I decided to bring out an old sampler that I started way back in the eighties and never finished. It is The Pomegranate Sampler by Darlene O'Steen of Needle's Prayse. I had the border almost finished, but that was all. This will be my project this month. I have a ton more I want to do, but I have to save time to get projects for birthdays and holidays completed. Unfortunately, no one in my family likes samplers! The nerve!!! ;-) See you in a week!

I LOVE the samplers you showed at the end of the video... the one with the guy in then tent and the camels... fantastic... reminds me of my deceased FIL who was part of an expedition that charted routes in the Gobi desert... anyway... I LOVE samplers... I use to "limit" myself to only samplers with and alphabet and a house... did a lot of Ewe & Eye and Blackbird Designs, but I've strayed in the last year to more seasonal "decorating" pieces. You've inspired me to spend some time on Sunday working on a sampler ... I 've just barely started "Oh Joyous Day" by Blackbird Designs and I think I'll give it some attention ...Thanks again for another great video and I hope each day gets a little bit better ... I don't care how old they are they are still our babies and I remember crying my eyes out when my older son left for college... hugs.

Such a great/fun video! I’m so glad you’re willing to go to the effort to make your videos. They are all so very enjoyable to watch! Your description of how some stitchers take a while to warm up to samplers was totally me. I found a pattern for a reproduction sampler (Eliza Guy) for 50 cents at my library book sale and decided it was a good first reproduction for me to try out. It even had a few different specialty stitches. I absolutely loved stitching it and it now hangs proudly on my wall. Currently I’m working on Elizabeth Pratt by R & R which I saw on Saltbox Stitcher’s flosstube, just 2 colors, red and blue. I’ll stitch on it for Sampler September. Thank you for offering such a generous book to your subscribers. Can totally relate to letting go of your son. The last of my 4 sons has been out of the house now for about 6 years. Our parenting goal is to raise strong, independent gentlemen that want to be on their own to build their own life. Succeeding at that goal means pain in watching them go. Well done, mom. Love, a fellow stitching mom of sons.

When you were describing the process of getting to samplers is EXACTLY how I arrived at samplers. I actually just started my first sampler about 3 weeks ago because I love the colors, it looks simple (which is refreshing) and I love the verse on it. Working on so many samplers, I need to focus and get some finishes before starting new ones. My oldest sampler wip is Anniversaries of the Heart. I started it in 2011. All of the stitching is done, but I have put off doing the over one personalization. That is the only thing keeping this piece from being a finish. I have been telling myself that I need to just set aside some time dedicated to tackling this over one. So, you have declared this Sampler September, and essentially handed me that time on a silver platter. Thanks, Theresa! PS, the samplers in the slide show are to due for! PSS, I have been sad as well, my son stayed at home after high school, and attended the local community college, got his Associates degree, and transferred to my alma mater, Virginia Tech. We moved him a week ago, and not having him home is very hard, lots of crying here in Virginia, as well.

I recently was able to find the Mary Pets Sampler from Queenstown Samplers. I love the story behind the samplers stitched at The Oblate Sisters of Providence School for Girls. This school has the largest repository of samplers stitched by black school children and the samplers were used to teach the children their alphabet and how to read. Mary Pets sampler is one reproduction sampler stitched by one of these schoolgirls. This story was shared with me by a fellow retreat attendee. We were discussing samplers and I said I was not into them and didn't get the appeal. They told me of the history of samplers and told me about this particular story and I finally have one of them in my possession. I also have a new found appreciation of samplers, understanding that most of the motifs in historical samplers represent something historically. I'm currently stitching on the Eliza Bell Cox sampler from Hands Across the Sea. Loved this video...so informative!!! And best wishes to your son on his next adventure! :-) Thanks! Latisha

Theresa, I started your Savior's Praise a few days ago. This sampler was chosen as the challenge piece for my sampler guild, Kindred Spirits for next year. We are encouraged to modify it to suit our taste and reflect ourselves. I pulled the DMC pallet on the called for linen, and plan to add in a brighter red for my esthetic. I will be using my name and initials of my family, and perhaps change one of the verses. For sure the big alphabet will be in eyelet stitches. Adam and Eve is my favorite sampler motif, so I will also start one of those this month. Mostly I stitch on one large thing at a time with small and mediums for variety. Too many wips make me anxious, so the max I will start is 3 others this sampler September.

Thanks for all your excellent information about the sampler world...I started out with 3 samplers on linen 45 years ago...still have one of those to finish...after running out of green floss...finally have a near match on the floss...and the one that I gave to my mother has to be mounted again...had it done professionally...the framing shop used cardboard and tape...now I am wondering about the one I kept...I was happy to see how you framed your pieces for market...and yes I have watched all of your videos....your showing of the samplers was delightful...looking forward to seeing you next week❤️

I love the idea of Sampler September! I'm one of those people that never cared for samplers but since becoming addicted to samplers I now want to stitch them all! I'm stitching Vintage Lace right now by Rosewood Manor but I own a couple Hands Across the Sea Sampler patterns that I would like to start soon. I also just bought All Creatures Great and Small, I love it. Thank you for your generosity.

Very excited to participate in Sampler September! This year my youngest daughter and I started In All Things Be Exceedingly Diligent by NeedleWorkPress as a tag-team project (exchanging monthly). So far have not chosen a reproduction sampler to start - a very daunting challenge to even just choose one! I'm hoping you will give me the inspiration to just get on with it and choose one already! Ha! Thank you for all your hard work putting these videos together. Take care!

Hi Teresa, I have had a love of samplers since I first started counted cross stitch in the eighties. I was especially drawn to reproduction samplers as the years past. The history of the girls who stitched the samplers is so interesting to me. These days we are so lucky to have so many lovely samplers to choose from and I decided to start Anna Grator by The Scarlett House as my first September Sampler.

I have Saviours Praise to start as my first sampler. I am one who has watched every video, some more than once. Thank you for all the knowledge you share with us.

A couple weeks ago, I purchased Sara Braizear and Harriet Salt, both Hands Across the Sea designs and am reading through the charts now as I decide what materials to use (DMC or silk threads) and if I wish to make any changes (fun to personalized them as times). I also just purchase a Long Dog sampler called The Templar's Prophesy and am in the process of reading through the chart and deciding the color fabric and thread to use (might do a blended thread on it for extra fun). This was a super video. I'm falling ever more in love with samplers. They are such a reflection of their era. Maybe it time to design one to display current sensibilities.

I stitched my way threw as I listened to you today. I really enjoyed your talk and I am getting my confidence to start my first sampler! I am starting a design called Christmas Carol Sampler by The primitive Hare. We took our boys every Christmas to see the Christmas Carol play and make memories. You are such an inspiration and I thank you! I am starting it tomorrow.

Teresa!! I'm in!! Sampler September! I started Mary Wigham from Ackworth Needleworks about 13 years ago and it is a UFO. I pulled it our last year to stitch a bit, but i wasnt feeling it. Hope i will finish it someday. It's funny, the only other 2 sampler that I stitched, and finished were both yours. Jenny Bean Halloween and Christmas. You are one of my favorite designers!! Thank you so much for everything you do!

I have so many samplers to stitch and so many started, I just need to finish them. Right now I’m stitching one in honor of my second grandchild Elias. For me. Then I will start one for my third grandson, Leland. Evan’s is already stitched and I started it all with one for Edith who passed away before she could be born. The Petit Mexican Sampler is also being stitched in honor of my friend Linda who passed away in April. It sounds morbid but it’s comforting and I enjoy looking at them. I understand about tears for your son. I have cried buckets when my daughter and son moved away. It sucks.

Haha, two years later and I’m sure the coming 2021 September, Sampler September is now a thing! I watched this back then but KZbin is doing this mix so it popped up again. Thank you again for all these videos! Isn’t Harrison now done, imagine that! Time sure moves along 🤗

My son moved out last year at 26, and I'm still not over it lol. The mom thing never ends. I just started Lucy Calcutt 1826 yesterday and I also have Ann Uffindell started. :) Janet

Lovely video. So much history and my Mom is Scottish so I am learning our heritage through samplers. Almost done with Elizabeth Atkinson 1829, started Frances Pool for Sampler September. There is so many that I would like to do but looking for a sampler with some specialty stitches to do next. When our oldest son moved to Vermont and we helped him move along with his friend, on our way home with his friend in the car, I cried the whole 6 hours. I couldn’t stop and I knew it was what he always wanted but it was hard to adjust. But a great place to visit all the time. He’s in California now but again a great place to visit.

Hi Theresa, I did my first sampler to distract myself from a life disappointment many years ago. It is one of my treasures. I don't know the name of it. By the time I was done with it, I was ready to move forward, and had a wonderful keepsake. I was gifted one as well! I have debated what I would like to commit to for another go at it, but can't decide. I looked at the ones at my LNS and was overwhelmed with the choices. I think I need to read the stories about them.

Don't cry about your son going off to Denver! My son left PA about 5 years ago to move to Denver. Although I was very sad to see him go, he absolutely loves it! I have a feeling Harrison will make his way in the world (or at least in Colorado!) and do just fine. Even though I miss my son, I know he's happy there. And what more could a mom want?

I've been looking forward to Sampler September and I've pulled out a couple of wips to work on including Autumn on Lazy Bear Mountain and my Autumn at Hawk Run Hollow...sensing a theme?? But there are so many more that I want to stitch! A couple of Hands Across the Sea samplers are really calling to me to get them started and I just might do it this month. Really, what's one more wip? 😋 Oh man, having kids move away is HARD. Big hugs! I wish your son happiness and success in his new endeavors and that you find comfort is sharing his new happiness. Have a fantastic month stitching your beautiful samplers!

Catching up on videos from being gone for two weeks. My mom heart goes out to yours. Hard having our kiddos and fur babies leave the nest. I’m excited about sampler September. I love samplers. I have the sampler book, but just wanted to say how generous of you offer it as a “g-word”. ❤️

I love all the samplers you have featured at the end of this video. I love all your videos. I think I have seen them ALL. I just finished stitching the Sarah Brazier sampler by HATS and am presently stitching Miss Mary Ann Bournes by HATS and Jane Atkinson by The Scarlet Letter. I'm sorry that you are sad about your son moving away. I know how it feels. I also cried every time any of my children left for college and each time thereafter when they departed following their home visits.

Just fell down the sampler hole this year, I’ve always have been a history buff and samplers are a way of touching the past for me. I started Lucy Navier 1818 this year and love every stitch!

I am trying to catch up on FT, and I love it that you did Sampler September. I have loved samplers forever and have been collecting my stash since the 70's so I have a lot but have never bought an antique one. I loved seeing the pictures also at the end of your video - we are so fortunate to have those antique samplers to see and read about and just imagine the young girls who created them, so amazing!! Change is hard when you children start to leave, but eventually you will see the growth and changes that occur with your son as well as the rest of your family - the proud feelings will increase that come with it. Try to enjoy.......................

I'm getting back into stitching after many years, and I have never done a sampler but am falling in love with the reproduction charts. One I have my eye on right now is the Hoity Toity Sampler from Long Dog Samplers. I'm also looking at a couple from Across the Sea samplers.
