Still a serve and volley Machine. Unplayable in his prime. The king of the 90s. The king of fast court Tennis. Thanks for the great memories Pete!

I don't understand the peoplo complaining about them being old or some people saying this isn't worth paying for. Their bodies may be older, but it's the same magic. They are two legends facing each other again in a kind of mythical recreation of their greatness. You can still feel the talent there. That's not going anyway no matter if they are 40 or 80. I would undoubtly pay to see them play because they are great, no matter if time hides the sun behind some shades.

I dunno about what it would be like in 10-15yrs- but in 2011, I'd still watch this Sampras-Agassi over any Djokovic-Nadal. So much more fun!

He has two first serves AND insane consistency AND all the other shots in the game. I can think of a few guys with a slightly better first serve (Isner, Ivanisevic, Karlovic, ...) but nobody who ever had that same combination of 1st/2nd, not to mention the rest of his game which is phenomenal too ...

its interesting to see that the serve and voley tactic is more effective for the seniors because its relies on the serve, uses a lot less energy and less pressure on the body than the baseline play....Sampras and Federer can play the senior tour up and keep winning up until their 60s....like McEnroe did....

After seeing Pete and Andre here, it's pretty amazing to think that Richard Gonzalez could still beat players like Rosewall and Laver when he was 38-41 years old. :) That would be like Pete being Novak or Roger today.

Just can’t believe some of the ridiculous & totally stupid comments there are on here!! Of course these guy’s are going to be slower.....there 10 years past their prime playing days you wombats!! The mere fact though that there still able to play God like Tennis seems almost a second thought to some of you chaps!! Just love to see how some of you would move around the court at a similar age.....I’m thinking though that you most likely couldn’t!! Great Match from these two as always even if they have slowed down greatly by the passage of time? In my opinion, when these two were at their respective peaks the Agassi/ Sampras rivalry was the most exciting and intense match ups of all time ......yes, even surpassing the Borg/ McEnroe clashes, in my opinion! Sampras vs Agassi always offered fantastic Tennis plus a little extra spice just for good measure!!

It’s pretty obvious that Agassi needs a lot more time on the court to get his game in shape then Pete. Pete’s game is just so simple and beautiful and straight forward. Agassi needs lots of reps and needs to hit a lot of balls to get that perfect timing down. He plays on a razors edge.
@sup95423 жыл бұрын
Agassi is well known for not needing practice. He can pick up a racquet and just start blasting. His issue is more with his stiff body and back. Also, bigger servers have the advantage on the seniors tour. A guy known for his return of serve is going to struggle more without that spring in his legs.

Pete beat Federer in 1 out of 3 exibition matches back in 2007-08. Granted, they were playing on a fast rubber surface, but the point is--as you see in this video, with a 40 yr old Sampras--he had the best "game" tennis has ever seen. There isn't a tennis historian alive who would disagree with the fact that, at his best, Pistol Pete could beat any other player in history at their best.
@farid14067 жыл бұрын
There are many, in fact. Laver and Federer would give him all kinds of fits.

farid no they wouldn't give peak Sampras 94-97 fits no one could, it would be the opposite.
@arupmukherjee56736 жыл бұрын
On fast surfaces(90's grass and decoturf, not the grass and decoturfs of today), Samras would have a slight advantage over Federer, but both like to play on fast surfaces. So anything happens. But on clay and medium slow/slow surfaces(rebound ace/plexicushion and clay), Federer would have a great edge on Sampras..So even in 94-97, it would not have been a linear result , as you think..But both Roger and Pete would be given a run for their money by Laver, if both played with the wooden rackets of old with small sweetspots..But both Sampras and Federer would not look out of place with wooden rackets..I just don't see Agassi, Djokovic or Nadal being anywhere successful with the wooden rackets of yesteryear
@jton68526 жыл бұрын
From 1994-1997 Sampras won 31 titles, and lost, by my count, 52 matches. From 2004-2007, Federer won 42 titles, and lost 24 times. So tell me again how Sampras was unbeatable at his peak? (For the record I don't like Sampras any less than I like Federer. I respect them both, but rooted for neither. But facts are facts.)
