Here’s a quick little lifeline which I use when an extremely strong opponent manages to pull me down in an attempt to secure a Gyaku Juji Jime (also works for Nami Juji Jime and Kata Juji Jime). The key is to push the elbows inside to prevent them from expanding, twisting the elbows to create a gap, which you then use to slide your hand in to block the strangle. From there, come up on one foot and swing the leg around you opponents head to secure the Juji Gatame. Enjoy!

Very nice and traditional Sensei , My original Sensie Harold Forshey (hatchidan) had taught me this a long time ago also. As mentioned in a previous comment, he had taught the traditional as you do on your videos. The only thing I see throughout my 30+ years in judo is finding myself nor anyone else that high up while in the dominant position executing juji gatami during ne waza for it to occur. My assistant Sensei Ted Zorskey (Godan) assistant to Harold Forshey who was well known for winning the gold medals in all the police Olympic games was put against me constantly since I had nobody in any of the 10 classes per week at my skill level in randori. With Sensei Zorskey, he was always forcing me to stay low due to juji gatami in which unfortunately I became his toy in regards to any arm bar as it taken me a long time to get over keeping one of my arms out during randori with him, I have no idea why really. It was just not crossing my mind nor was I ever corrected verbally no matter what during his punishment sort of speek all throughout my teen life lol. But my question really would be, how easy would it be to get a judoka to reach up for anything while that high if in the dominant position in today's times of judo? I myself am not really sure as it's not commonly observed. It would need to be a obviously set up during randori to test out. In most situations, the opponent goes for bridging which still requires normally extending the arm sometimes all the way sometimes not. *Would you please demonstrate with that a bit as well* ? I to will experiment with that idea a bit and see if I can have a video taken as I would like to upload some on KZbin as well. As mentioned before, I was taught traditional but forced to learn competitive judo between these two Senseis whom are both deceased now unfortunately and from your teachings. I am seeing little tweeks that I never seen before such as the use of the elbows here and I thank you for that. Sensei Forshey unfortunately passed by cancer if you known him in person while in Japan or America as a world rated competitor during I assume when you were young yourself and he lived until 79 years old & unfortunately & Sensei Theodore "Ted" Zorskey unfortunately passed away one night while in his police car on patrol.

It is certainly possible to become a masters world champion. However, it all depends on how hard you work as well as your natural talent.
