Good video! I bought a Kalimba recently to have something quiet-ish to play around with. For hollow kalimbas, I found the Mirio EQ 17 key to be wonderful so far. It's usually $30 but I got it on sale for about 20. It has a beautiful deer design for the hole and it's designed to be less straining for smaller hands, and I got the one that had the dark teal-blue gradient finish, but they are in various colors. There are holes in the back that can help you make some effects and quality shifts easily, and it's really light but sturdy. It comes with a very strong case, a tuning hammer, a wiping cloth and stickers, but it also has a jack to plug into an amp or computer, which to me was important for a few reasons concerning recording. Even though I'm happy with this Kalimba for now, I will reference this guide when considering another Kalimba if I ever want or need to buy a different one. I might get more hollow ones and maybe one or two that aren't hollow; I love the sound of hollow acoustics but a quieter one might also be useful. I'll be watching some of your other videos to learn more about this pretty little instrument. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! P.S. I think I might one with a chain accessory at some point, it sounds so nice, but then again kalimbas generally sound so nice.

This vid did a great job on Kalimba analysis. As a kalimba user for 2 years, I fell in love with hollow kalimba more. I dont like to play kalimba indoors, it feels better and keeps my mind in peace when i play it outdoors and expecially at the green field, countrysides or when i go hiking. Also my bunny hate it when i play indoors, because the echo make him stress, but she likes to stay near me and enjoy the sound when i play it outdoors. And with my experience, if you go for a Kalimba, just go straight to 21keys one. The key is thinner and the tone is so good. And it can play both 17 keys and 21 keys song.

I was working with a mostly non existant budget. So I made my own. I think I need to retune it at some point to try for better sound quality but I'm happy with my hot mess that is a cheap ready made bits, attached to the bottom of a wooden salad bowl. But for what it is, it's got a pretty nice sound. It's basically a lap size with a nice resonance as I checked the wood tonality before buying the bowl form a fleamarket (probably the ninth wooden bowl I tested over the months). At some point I'll probably decorate it somehow.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!! I have been wanting to learn this instrument but kept putting it off because I was afraid that I would purchase the wrong one that wasn't crafted well and/or sounds horrible. I am on a 'Fixed Income'. I get 'triggered' every time someone says (about the cost) "It depends on how serious you are", as if all of us can afford to buy an expensive instrument. I am proof that not all of us can, and that does not mean we are not serious about music and about wanting to learn to play! I LOVE MUSIC! The problem I had was deciding which ones to learn first! From the cello, guitar, piano, etc, the problem always went back to weight and cost. I also have a disability that would make heavy instruments difficult for me. Also, really wanted one that is easily portable. Plus I like unusual instruments. I fell in love with Kalimba the first time I heard it several years ago on KZbin. Wanted one of my own but was afraid that the ones I could afford would be poorly crafted and sound horrible. But then I found this video! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I took notes, deciding on sound quality, weight, shape. I already decided that I wanted 17 keys, not 8 or 10, because I'd be able to play more kinds of songs on the 17 than I could the 8 keys. I then went to Amazon, I was going to buy a hollow one, but then I saw a flatboard one, the one you suggested in this video, but it was on sale. The price was so great I couldn't pass it up after reading all of the reviews and watching the video's on the amazon store, one was uploaded by a customer as part of her review. The weight was about the same as the hollow one I was gong to buy. THANK YOU AGAIN!!! I ORDERED IT TODAY! It will be arriving tomorrow. I also bought stickers and a 100+ song book. I am so excited. I have been wanting to learn this instrument, litterally for years! I also want to learn the Lyre. (just in case you were wondering). I subscribed to your channel and can't wait to start learning. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

In the late 70's, I bought a Hugh Tracey Kalimba fir $30. I got spoiled! I recently bought a cheap one for $20 and the tone I is not close to what I recall. But now, with 40+ years of inflation, that Hugh Tracey goes about $130-150. So, I saving up for this serious one. Still, I am anxious to try a Quokka. I will always prefer the hollow kamliba. I love the hole on the back. You cover them with your finger and close and open them to make a tremolo.

So i Tried and Tried Others and than i found the flat Board from lingting and gave everyone in my Family this kalimba for Christmass. That was the Most expensive but best Christmass i ever Had and they all loved it. Now, one year later my whole Family, my aunt and my Cousine have at least two kalimbas per Person and everyone found another that Matches. Two of my Sisters Love the sweet cat Acryl kalimba from treelf, my Other sister and my mum bought the 34 Key kalimba from Hluru, my aunt the 34 Key from lingting and my Cousine the 34 Key from seeds. They all Play together whenever they have time. I Love the 34 Key from chill Angels and the 17 Key acrylic kalimba from treelf (the cat 😍) i even found two 17 Key Mini acrylic kalimbas from "bfriend" for my two sons. The only Thing i dont come over is that i never found a really good hollow kalimba. I Had one from Ortega but even this started to make Strange klirrr noises after a while so i send it Back to Amazon.

From someone who just got one, start with 8 key is my advice. They're inexpensive and less overwhelming than 17 keys
