@billyconnelly356813 сағат бұрын
"disproportionate criticisms being leveled at the Democrats and the left in general..." This wording seems to imply that criticism of the Democrats is one of form of criticism of the left. The Democratic Party elite is composed of center-right liberals. They're not on or of the left. At all.
@missright91598 сағат бұрын
Perfectly put. And I'm not saying we play the same republican game of ha ha mediocrity, but that anything we come up with is automatically better than them. We just have to keep giving our team the ball (and not fall for the "criticism" of being "tribal", they are and get to run away with their unity and gain too much power), and both stop this pendulum swing of handing our very lives over to maniacs occasionally, and accumulate power/effort/care to make the party what we want. They are traitorous, and we should be winning every election, no doubt. But we have turned into a multi-faction, apathetic blob of ponderers who leave too much to chance for the sake of "principles". And the other side is not doing that. They're not wasting time defeating themselves. We've let the pursuit of perfection be the enemy of good, and I don't care how "smart" we claim to be, that's asinine.
@leechowning27126 сағат бұрын
Well, the problem with that is the election thing. If this is as normalized as it seems, then every 1-2 terms, you will hand the country back to the MAGA (I have stopped calling them Republicans because they are not the GOP from before). It does not matter that to 30% of the country ANYTHING is better than Trump, because you cannot win that way. It takes convincing THE REST of them to vote for you. The DNC has lost the majority vote share in Hispanics. They have lost margin with Arabic, Jewish, African American, and low income voters for 3 successive presidential elections. It is not a case of "we just think MAGA bad" is enough. If things do not change, you will be suffering (as Shoe0nHead put it) "100 years of Republican rule". That is why this is important.

I'll always make a distinction about how Kamala ran her campaign. I always say she ran as good a campaign as could be expected. To say it was perfect is idiotic. It contained many, many mistakes (e.g., embracing Liz Cheney, not distinguishing herself as separate from Biden, talking about owning a gun and about the 'lethal' US military, hiding Tim Walz). However, in the space of a one to two year campaign cycle, some of these mistakes could have been fixed or forgotten in the 24 hour media cycle. It's also a sign that with limited time, decisions needed to be made quickly because there was no time to actually plan things out. For that, she can thank Joseph Robinette Biden. He basically kneecapped her ability to run a considered campaign. Let's not pretend she would have recreated the New Deal or the British post war consensus. Even with a two year window of opportunity, she very may well have run a bleh, neo liberal primary (and then presidential) campaign. However, had Biden said as soon as the 2022 midterms were finished that he wasn't running for a second term and that he was endorsing Kamala in a primary that was yet to come, she would have either have been a more seasoned candidate with a more tangible strategy or we would have gotten that with someone else at the top of the ticket. The problem with liberalism, and US liberals, is that they see things through a solipsist world view. They don't have the black and white world view of their nihilistic and misanthropic conservative opposition. Their guiding belief is that in a fair world, you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough. At the end of the day, it's about being 'rewarded' and about what's in it for you, not creating a better world for your fellow human beings, Biden hanging on as long as he did reflects that BS attitude. That and a generation of robots who watched too many episodes of the West Wing and believe actual human beings talk like that.

I'm from the Bay Area and have watched Kamala for a couple decades. She's a quintessential establishment politician and that would have become more clear, not less, with time. @glencowan753222 минут бұрын
@@billyconnelly3568 The quick nature of the swap to Kamala would in most scenarios be what we would call here in Australian politics 'saving the furniture'. By the time Biden had stepped down, it was more a case of trying to salvage what had been lost (though it remains to be seen if there is anything left to save in an electoral sense). Even if Kamala hadn't been elevated to the top of the ticket, whoever would have been elevated would have encountered exactly the same problems she did and would have been doomed.

I am 100% certain this is just the start of a flood of information about how diminished we was and how those around him protected him. And that does include the press. Biden completely squandered his legacy due to his hubris and, most likely, his diminished capacity. What I do object to is the constant "His age, his age, his age" drumbeat. It was (is) not his age, it was (is) his diminished capacity. There are plenty of people older than him who still have a great amount of their mental capacity intact. He should have been sitting in Delaware surrounded by his family and not trying for the Presidency in 2020 for the 3rd time to satisfy his ego.

@DSlav248822 сағат бұрын
I would generally agree; that said she suffered the most narrow margin of defeat in modern history. 229K votes across WI MI and PA were all that separated her from being Madam President. So, in terms of raw votes she was actually very close; in more conceptual points of view....you're probably correct. She never had a chance of WINNING. I think it goes both ways. I don't think either angle of looking at it is more correct or incorrect than the other. Be lets be real: no 1 term incumbent VP has ever won reelection election as president. Ever. Let alone an incumbent VP who is basically forced (perhaps against her own will and desire) to being the nominee, with 3 months before the election. Also, no one really knew who kamala harris was before July 22, 2024. I'm a huge supporter of hers now, but even I didn't really know anything about her or who she was prior to her being at the top of the ticket. It's unfortunate timing...but honestly...as the saying goes...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I truly believe (I know not everyone does, but I do) that she WILL be back again, in 2028. She got her feet wet, and she got her first opportunity to really be in the national spotlight, btw she DID raise $1.5B in just under 3 months. She was put in an impossible situation and she, from a vote count perspective, came very close. I belong that in 2028, when she's not the incumbent, and when Trump has really F's stuff up, she'll be much more popular and a better choice. I think that no matter who the Dems ran in 2024 they were always gonna lose. It was a horrible environment for the incumbent. Kamala will be back. I could see her and Walz getting back together in 2027, gearing up for a run...
