Got this mic the day and returned the snowball, I think is has a more clean even tone and is great you can adjust the headphone volume. I use it for acoustic recordings, sounds great.

A pop filter is used to eliminate popping and hissing from air hitting the microphone. For reducing background noise you will need a recording environment isolated from external noise interference.
@uniquesquared11 жыл бұрын
If you are recording vocals, it is probably best to do it in isolation. If you are recording vocals and using speakers to monitor, you are likely going to get phasing issues where the mic picks up your vocal followed by the vocal coming from your monitors.

Nice mic. I Love the vintage/spacey style look. It simply combines two of my greatest passions :)

The Meteor Mic is a condensor microphone with a cardioid pickup pattern. This means that if you are not in an acoustically isolated room, you will have instances of external sounds being picked up by the microphone. My advice to you is to record in an isolated environment with little external interference if you want to completely eliminate background noise.

For basic recordings the Meteor Mic is a solid USB microphone. There are limitations in the dynamic range when you add multiple instruments and vocals into one microphone but if you are in the market for a simple recording solution, this microphone should do the trick. To pick one up today, head on over to the UniqueSquared website.

Try adjusting the mic gain level with the knob on the Meteor Mic or try boosting your levels in your DAW.

Looks pretty sexy. It's always nice when functionality can be matched to an impressive form factor, makes people want to sing/talk/etc. into it. Like the idea of LEDs on the mic itself to indicate levels. Never had any experience with USB mics, just the usual cardioid or condenser, XLR with pre, but the results sound pretty good out of the Meteor...
@uniquesquared12 жыл бұрын
Check the input levels in Garageband. If they are producing an adequate level then it may be that your headphone output volume is too low. There is a knob to control that on the front of the microphone as well as in GarageBand. Hope this helps.

If you are trying to get the absolute best recorded voice from any microphone then yes, a pop filter can be useful. Otherwise it's probably not that necessary. There are pop filters that clip on magnetically or if you mount the Meteor Mic to a mic stand, there are pop filters which will clamp to the stand and you can position however you want.

This mic sounds pretty good, but I still have a few questions about it that I hope you could have an answer on: 1. I'm noticing a bit of a click in the mic, is this persistently present to your knowledge? 2. Would there be anything like absorbers and/or pop filters that you would recommend on a mic like this to minimize potential background noise?
@uniquesquared14 жыл бұрын
@Wolfgangkay It is the metronome in the recording software. With the settings we had you can hear the metronome. You can easily turn it on off to your preference. Thanks for the comment!
@uniquesquared11 жыл бұрын
You do not have to remove the legs to mount it to a mic stand. It fits on mic stands quite easily. I believe it is possible to remove the legs with a screwdriver should you need to remove them.

Sounds better than the Blue Snowball in my opinion.
@uniquesquared12 жыл бұрын
1. That is the metronome in GarageBand you are hearing. It is not the mic. 2. A pop filter will not reduce background noise. Typically if you want sound isolation you have to make the room you are recording in isolated from ambient tones. I would recommend acoustic treatment like the Auralex brand of sound proofing. For the best price on Samson and Auralex products, check out the UniqueSquared website.

On the Samson description, the Knob on the mic isn't a gain level, it's just a headphone level for the direct playback.

You can use it with an iPad and Apple's Camera Connection Kit and possibly older iPhones but we have not tested this ourselves. I think it works with iPhone's before iPhone 4 but I am not positive. It may have something to do with the fact that newer iOS devices cannot generate enough power for the Samson Meteor Mic to turn on. Check out Samson's website or send them an email for more details.

@DamageIncM Sorry for the slow response I was at work late yesterday, i glanced through the manual and didn't see any mention of USB 2.0 or higher requirements so you should be fine. This mic is worth every penny of the $100 I spent on it out won't find much better at this price range, I haven't had an opportunity to Mic my amp yet. I did however give my acoustic a go with the Mic placed randomly and was very impressed.

@hiphopsucks96 For sure. Its totally adaptable to any recording situation. It is a condenser microphone so it is very sensitive to high levels such as a band practice. Just make sure the gain is adjusted appropriately.

What DAW are you using to record? If you use DAW software that requires ASIO drivers (such as Cubase or Nuendo, for example) then you’ll have to create an aggregate device (Mac) or use the free third‑party ASIO4ALL driver (PC) if you want to be able to hear what the computer’s playing (like a backing track!) via another audio interface while you record.

@DamageIncM USB is actually one of the best formats to transfer information be it sound or videos and with USB 2.0-3.0 out now we are probably only going to see more USB friendly application come into the market. I can't remember it requires USB 2.0 but that has become standard now so unless your computer is over 7 years old I don't think it will be a problem.

Nice Microphone, but unfortunally, the background noise is way too present. You can check that i'm not alone to hear it, do a simple search on youtube for "samson meteor noise", you'll see. Ok, the noise I have is around -40db, but it makes it unusable for any "serious" recording. Use it for skype or what's app.
