In the RWS, Thomas arrived in 1915 along with Edward to help with the railway's construction. His arrival was supposedly due to a wartime mix-up. His crew got on well with the local people and married Sudrian women, and neither wanted to leave Sodor or their engine by 1920. In this fashion, he likely would've been umber, like your Hornby Thomas, and as he has extended tanks, likely would've been numbered 105-9. (I believe 108 is the usual fan acception, like T1E2H3's NWR Origins) As Thomas was always shown on Sodor since the start of Season 1, this mix-up logic could probably be applied, and likely would be how fans thought is was during the run of the first 18 seasons before The Adventure Begins came out. In that movie, Thomas was depicted in a teal green, likely to match the original toy, and numbered 70, to coincide with the anniversary in 2015. The show has never been that specific with time periods, though a good guess would probably be 1925. Thomas was depicted as having arrived after James, and became the new #1 in place of Glynn, a vertical boiler 'coffee pot' engine who later returned in Season 20.

I THINK the front coupler is missing to accommodate a snow plow. A snow plow that is impossible to actually find. I wonder if they updated the chassis of the blue Thomas as well. The older one I have had wires running through the chassis to the bottom plate which makes it a nightmare to service, so that update would be great - the motor maybe not. Let us know if the noise improves after servicing. If I remember right my blue Thomas got a lot smoother and quieter after the first time I took it apart, cleared off the goopy dried grease, and oiled everything properly.

I noticed that Bachmann recently started making the Skarloey engines in the HOn30 scale. HOn30 is a neat scale that works for smaller spaces. Finding stuff for it is really tough though. Sure, the track is not too hard to find--given that it uses N scale track-- but the actually locomotives and wagons are really hard to find and quite expensive.

The blister pack with collectors items is a crafty trick used on Star Wars figures collectors for decades. If you have a reusable presentation pack, you could remove the item and play with it, then put it carefully back in the box. With blister packs you end up buying the same item twice if you want to enjoy the contents. One for display/collecting, one for playing with. They know exactly what they’re doing over at Bachmann.

I recently picked up the Bachmann Thomas with analog sound and it uses the same motor as the LBSC Thomas, and the motor wasn’t actually working out of the box. I did luckily get it working, I guess it just ceased up which is unfortunate, but it does have a lot more weight which is nice. I have the original Bachmann Thomas that I got around 12 years ago and even though I’ve had to replace the motor and it’s been properly run in and serviced, it’s a far better runner. Very strange. I hope Bachmann will make the motors better on these, especially since it’s going to be mainly bought by new hobbyists. But enough ranting. Great video and great review, Sam!

at 11:29 I could practically hear your Triang 3Fs saying "Keep it down!!". And given how noisy THEY are, well, that's quite a feat from this Thomas XD

haha I know right - literally as noisy as those!! xD Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Also, on the lbsc thomas, there's a gap between the front splashers and the tanks, while on blue thomas they're filled in.

I bought one of these and it doesn’t make half the noise that yours does. But I a few years ago purchased a Mavis that sounds just like your Thomas makes and know matter what I did it is still very noisy . Great video keep them coming.

Next time you run either of the Thomases, you should have one of them pull your new LBSC coaches since Annie and Clarabel are actually slightly modified LBSC coaches in the TV series.

The whole Bachmann Thomas situation for me is frustrating. I'd bought a replacement motor and wheelset/chassis block/pickups for my 15 year old one that didn't come apart easily, but seeing they've made improvements for once in the disassembly since then I don't know whether I should just spend the buckets of money on a whole, brand new Thomas or put in the new bits I bought or even attempt a radical idea I had to re-engineer the thing myself to run a shortened Hornby chassis and motor

Not great for a thomas model but then again it’s Bachmann so I don’t know what I expected, Thomas looks a little crazy, shame bachmann can’t invest some money into improving their Thomas range! And Sam you’re getting so close to 100K! Honestly you deserve it, can’t wait to see the silver play button! -TheImperialDiamondSpinosaurus

haha yeah absolutely! Pity they're not willing to invest in the range properly, I agree! :( Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Strange to say that the N Gauge Bachmann Thomas they've recently put out does far better than this one, recently done the review of it and managed to pull 8 Mk1 coaches, it was a 29g loco pulling a 200g train! (just about, did struggle a bit on the slight incline) Unfortunately does cost the same but it's typical for N Gauge. Great video as always Sam!

Are they really?! I'd be really interested to see them then! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

@@SamsTrains It seems that way from what I can tell, might even be a tiny flywheel inside from the way he acts. True he's still not perfect in N Gauge, but does at least pull most things you put behind him.

There are 2 kinds of Thomas (not the paintwork but factories). Which have different faces because they are made at different factories.

Hi Sam - love your work. Don't know if you have any control over the adverts but your video about a child's toy was interrupted by an ad for an app to find a lady to spend the night with - glad I didn't have to explain to my son what the lady was doing! Not your fault but thought you should know! Keep up the good work.

I think the eyes are further out to be closer to were the face is, and the position of the eyebrows make it look like its taken something, though it is an improvement over the old face's eyebrows. I guess its good for modifying if you want to improve some of the problems (like the light weight could be fixed with a weight or two in the body, and the face could be changed out).

I don't know much about licensing for model railways, but if you compare it to football shirts it isn't a big surprise. Most of the big brands will have 'teamwear' ranges of generic kits that any amateur team can buy. However, some professional teams will use the same template designs, and adding a club badge and sponsor logo can add £20 to the price. The Adidas Campeon 19 teamwear design had an RRP of £35.00, whereas a Leicester City away shirt from last season which used the same basic design had an RRP of £55

My LBSC Thomas was also very noisy like yours, but I fixed him by swapping his internals with one from a damaged Analog sound Thomas. Now I have a working LBSC Thomas with Analog Sound that doesn’t have such an awfully noisy mechanism. 😀🚂

I bought mine from amazon for a amazing price of $60.79, the reason why it was so cheap was because it was brand new in its packaging but the packaging was damaged, but the model is fine.
