@@wrenchhead4378 if you mean 5-7 years? my first bit of advice would be to lower the backlighting setting since the leds generally are the first thing to fail on modern tvs.. they are like christmas lights. one burns out and often the whole tv goes black. they run cooler at lower setting and last longer.

I love my Samsung 65 inch AU 8000 tv, the picture the features the slimness it is so much more thinner than the Sony, yes the sound seems better on the Sony due to it being thicker, but I do not like the thickness of Sony's tv's. Samsung tv same size but looks larger due to the slimness. The sound for me on the Samsung is plenty. I guess Samsung thinks that well we make sound bars so people can just go out and buy a sound bar. Yet another great comparison. :) Thanks Steve.

I like the remote and the settings look on the Sony where you can see the whole (smaller) screen on the left to view the changes better on real time. I use OTA and the Sony has the new ATSC-3 tuner. If you want the new tuner on any of the other models to need to buy their top of the line )LED models. I like the reds and yellows more on the Samsung though. I bought the Sony X80J in 65". Have a Sony 55 inch 720e which is about 7 years old, edge lit, 4K with an IPS panel. Good picture with natural colors but, if you watch at night in a dark room, the black levels are disappointing. If I buy another Sony, I’d move up to the Sony X 85j which has a VA panel, high contrast ratio, deep inky blacks, and a wide color gamut. In the contest between these two I think I’d go with the Samsung because a higher contrast ratio produces a better picture, especially in low light settings…

The reason why the edge lit TV dont cast light on the table is the bottom edge backlight is pointing upwards into the center of the screen.. while a back lit TV light points outward since it is under the panel.. thus some light bleeds into the table..
@itsJPhere
@itsJPhere 3 жыл бұрын
I think the differences in the panel technology cause it. The Samsung VA panel bleeds less light at an angle. You can clearly see the IPS glow on the Sony.

Hi Steve, good tests you have. I hate the new little remotes because you get addicted to the screen. For example. when I press button 1 I get DR1, button 3 TV2 button 8 NEWS etc ,, then I do not have to first select it on the screen, Samsung, but can quickly switch, so Sony becomes my favorite. no matter what. The screens in new cars have the same problem that you have to go through a lot to change something. Many motorists in Denmark complain that they can just as well sit and mess with their smartphone as with the car screen while driving.

The Sony gets a bit brighter and displays a much wider color gamut, but it still delivers a worse HDR experience because of the lower contrast. Really disappointed with the Sony X80J. Picture was dark, grainy and fuzzy, no matter what I watched. Poor black levels and contrast. Tried to calibrate several times with no improvement. Maybe I got a defective unit? My husband has an older Sony 750H, and it is a fantastic TV. Exchanged the Sony X80J for the Samsung AU8000. The Samsung picture is clear and bright, and the colours are vibrant. Much happier with it. 👍📺

The Sony picture was poor with everything I tried, Roku, Android box, even Sony's Google UI. Tried upgrading the HDMI cables also, but no difference. Maybe I got a lemon. I don't think the change from VA to IPS panels would account for the picture issues, but I'm not an expert. The older Sony 750H looks amazing, and I believe it has VA panels. Not sure what else Sony changed with the X80J, but the model I received was not on par with the 750H. 🤷‍♀️

Great side-by-side comparison. If you're a gamer you'd go for the Samsung it looks better on that TV. If you're just looking for contents not heavy gamer and want family movie times then you go for the Sony one-stop shopping for nice popping images in SDR wide viewing angle good surround sound and ATSC 3.0 for 4k on OTA available end of 2022. My eyes aren't that good and I need more brightness to help see the details. I can't see the nice details on the Samsung because of the lower brightness. The extra brightness and popping images on Sony helps me see the details. The older Sony model X800H is even brighter but no ATSC 3.0. So I decided on the Sony X80J. If someone can show how it works with Atmos Dolby Vision that'd be excellent.

Good review I am enjoying the brightness levels and contrasts on the Samsung Au8000 more during gaming scenes and also the black levels … Sony looked too dark. Question though was the Samsung picture setting set to Standard or Dynamic - as dynamic will make those colors pop more on Samsung. Keep up the good work @TechSteve 👍

I don’t debate people on my channel, but you should always buy what works for you. It’s the Android VS Apple debate. I’m non bias and have over 25 TVs available, i just call every video on what I actually see and I test them for hrs before i film them. It doesn’t matter what people buy to me as long as they are happy.

I really like your reviews but only one important thing is missing. Not a single word about upscaling SD&HD content. It would be nice to hear something about that since i think that more than half of the planet still watch their tv's using antenna or cable box(incuding me) to watch normal tv channels. In general i don't ask from you to install antenna or cable box in your new studio but please, can you test some lower resolution content and just tell us something in few words about your impression and include that info in future videos.

Yes that would be very relevant. Even if more and more is youtube, online services etc... i still think over 50% of the content people is watching comes from spurces that needs to be upscalled. So it is a very big factor in decisionmaking for a tv. I almost bought a sony x85j, but when i saw how horrible glitches it got on skin many times (either because of bad upscalling or because of internet), i decided to scratch that purchase. (Samsung q60a did not give skinrashes on the people with same internet and same trailer).
