@Rowan, very good brief review. Do you know upto what sized external usb hard disks does it support ? I have a 3TB powered disk, not sure if it will support that.
@RowanJParker11 жыл бұрын
Could be any number of things. Is the unit powering on? Is so, swap out the HDMI cable, check your screen supports the resolution the player produces, check you have selected the correct HDMI input on your screen. If you have no luck try it with another screen or failing that return to retailer for a replacement. It could be DOA although that is very unusual. Cheers Rowan

A well made review :) I must admit I am yet to decide whether I should buy a Pioneer or a Samsung. Hard to decide to be honest. I have a Samsung C7705 TV but no BluRay Player or Netflix on the TV. I would like to try out the SmartTV interface without buying a new TV, so that's one of my reasons for choosing Samsung. My main reason for getting a BluRay player, is Netflix. Would a medium-range model like this be overkill for that purpose? Thank you :)

Hi Rowan, Thanks for the great review. Only one question is preventing me from buying this: How easy is the Miracast screen mirroring to use? - do you need to go through menu's to set up the connection each time, or is it automatic when the device is turned on? (I've got an S3 running 4.3, and Nexus 7 running 4.4, so no prob's there). Thanks again.

Hi thanks for the review. I have been thinking about a blu ray player for a while now but it is bringing up some questions that I hadn't considered. My main concern is that I just have a basic HD ready tv. It isn't a smart tv or have any fancy bells and whistles. It's pretty basic. No, that's not possible on this or any other Blu Ray player without designing a custom firmware. As far as I'm aware these do not exist. However, this deck has excellent multimedia support and will play just about any file you throw at it. Hope this helps.

hi rowan could you please tell me if there is a blu ray that you can download apps from the web I am looking for one around 100 thanks
@RowanJParker9 жыл бұрын
+Ronnie Marshall Hi Ronnie, it has apps you can download from Samsung Apps. this is built into the player though. You cant install 3rd party apps that you download from other sources, such as the internet, google play etc. It's a closed eco system much like Apples apps store. As far as I know no Blu Ray player allows you to do this, they are all closed systems though some of this years Sony TV are based on Android OS so I believe it may be possible to sideload apks you obtain from elsewhere but on this player no.

how do i upgrade to 4k i dont see any settings for 4k
@RowanJParker9 жыл бұрын
+robert szvetics I'm assuming you have a 4k TV to run this into. If so set the resolution output to 4K or auto. However there is really no need to do this as your 4K tv will upscale the image to fit the resolution of the panel in any case. Unless it's a really cheap 4K tv you have the upscaling engine in the TV is likely better than the upscaling on the Blu Ray player. I would try both and see which looks better to you. Cheers Rowan
@robertszvetics2109 жыл бұрын
yes a have a samsung uhd 4k tv there is nothing in the instuctions that tell you how to upgrade to 4k i have the samsung 6500 player there is also nothing there to tell you how to upgrade

In that case just leave the TV to upscale the picture.
@robertszvetics2109 жыл бұрын
i dont understand
@RowanJParker9 жыл бұрын
Any signal you feed into the TV will be upscaled by the processing software in the TV to 4K resolution otherwise it wouldn't display across the whole screen. I'm merely saying that the upscaling software in the TV will likely be better than the software in the Blu Ray player to do this. I suggest you google this stuff to understand how upscaling and resolution work. Cheers Rowan

I am about to get a player, been researching may go with this player.Have the following if you could help Rowan J Parker.I understand electronics as well, work on this stuff however, I been a bit of the old school type.So, after 38 yrs I got my first Sony 42 Bravia two weeks ago for 30.00 dollars.Catch was did not work.Put a new power supply board in it and on and going.More less not a scratch on tv so, score there.Never had a blue ray nor seen the quality.So, I'll ask first with your player and blue ray is the hype all it seems? as in worth the blue ray price for unit, the rent of disk or buying a disk vs analog 480 etc? As for 3d I am not into all that so, your player will play blue ray, reg dvd burnt -r, =r, rw all that correct? I mainly want for internet.I will be next to my box wifi or lan on 50 meg.So, by your set up you don't see that glitching on you tube all is smooth flow more less, that is what I am after.Would say dual core plays the part.I don't see a Ebay app, but guess any thing I need can be on browser of which how does that run awful or better than most do?Course I will usb photos to it so assume that can be saved to it or a mouse, key board to it.All in all sound like what you got will fit the bill?
@RRW35910 жыл бұрын
I don't understand anyone getting Blu Ray players over $100, because for that price, you could just get a used PS3. I'm not as much as an audio/videophile as other people, but it has all of the features of others (Netflix, 3D, Wifi, ect). that others do, in addition to being able to play PS3 games if you want to. The only things it can't do are HD audio while doing 3D, and 4K upscaling (although from what I understand, most 4K TV's do upscaling better than most players, anyways).

Anyone else having trouble screen mirroring Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (SM-N910V) running Android 4.4.4 through a Blu-ray Disc Player BD-H5900/ZA? The player balks at creating the link, then "locks up". The only way I've been able to get control of the player is by unplugging it. It has worked once or twice, but most often I get a dark screen with nothing showing.
@horderphelps140210 жыл бұрын
A word to the wise and uninitiated! In order to get internet on your TV using this BDP (there is actually NetFlix button on the remote, which just adds insult to injury) requires either a wired LAN or a Samsung (and ONLY a Samsung) wireless adaptor...which are SOLD OUT everywhere, but can be purchased on Ebay for the extortionist price $92+delivery). I wouldn't have bought this unit if it didn't come packaged with the HDTV (special sale price, naturally).
@RowanJParker10 жыл бұрын
That is not correct. This unit has built in wifi, no extra adapter required. Cheers Rowan

Man i've heard all crazy ways of hooking up devices like bluray players and home theatre products;and everyone claims they know what they're doing;and that they have more exsperience than the last company or persons that you have talked to..to make a sale its' what it's all about. The one thing i know;once you found a way that works for your set up;stay with it and don't change it because the next salesman or technician says to. No you do what works for you. In the end they all will stop helping you when you've called more than once or twice; about the same issue. Because as long as their unit is working and they know about the latest gear;they won't care if ya learn it,or yours works or not. To them it's sale,sale,sale at any cost and let nothing come back to the place of purchase. Customer service is not how you start it's how you finish. Had this tech guy answer me pretty rudely more than once when i called because he knew or thought he knew what i was doing wrong with the product set-up;but really wanted to make me look like an idiot..so i said no thanks i'll figure it out myself;and i hung up on him. they told me they were the best in the business at customer service and they care about their customers..He He..not. I won't be ordering from them again.

By the end of 2015, all manufacturers will release a true 4K blu ray player to play 4K blu rays. If you have a 4K tv then wait.
@nedbately739210 жыл бұрын
its always, "a mid-range system"
@RowanJParker10 жыл бұрын
I would say that this deck gives you all the features you could ever want for a less than mid range price. Sure, you can spend much more on a Blu Ray player but what's the point? There is no appreciable difference in picture quality between this and flagship BD players.
@jessereyna740810 жыл бұрын
Beware consumers..called Samsung about the Bd-H5900/ZA model and other models in that line;and they said since the unit has only one hdmi port;it cannot be used with an avr unit? They are non-compatible. So it's back to best buy and back to the drawing board trying to find an new bluray 3d full hd unit to replace my old one that just burned up. Now have no tv for tonight because of that untimely news. Samsung heading the wrong direction no? At least they're still building quality tv's though? Arghh!
@RowanJParker10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jesse, I don't understand this at all. Most Blu Ray players only have one HDMI output. I can't see how this means you cant use it with an AVR, surely you run the HDMI cable from the Blu Ray to the AVR and then run the HDMI output of the AVR to your TV? I've got a set up like this in every room and all my Blu Ray players only have a single HDMI out. I would suggest that Samsung technical support have no idea what they are talking about, which doesn't surprise me. Cheers Rowan
