I don’t get why people don’t like the v2 screen. It’s awesome (to me) and fits everything I do in perfectly.

Hi Robbie, I've been a happy V1 owner for over a year, so of course I was interested in an upgrade. Unfortunately you're right, V2 is not overall an upgrade. My personal disappointments were no usb c on both sides (love being able to charge from either side), the noticeable weight increase, and downgraded screen.

So glad I watched this review. I was thinking about upgrading from my 3-year-old V1 even though it works fine. I'm a if-it-works-don't-fix-it kind of guy. Thanks for saving me hundreds of dollars for an incremental upgrade.

Thank you, super informative. I have an old one of the V1 model, and I got it because I was in love with the screen! I have an artistic eye, and to me, it rivals the MacBook! It's one of the sharpest screens out there and I love how bright you can make it. And yes, the square screen is one of my favorite things about it too, I just dislike rectangular screens. I was thinking about upgrading to V2, but if it's just a shade worse than the V1, no way! I've had difficulties with my eyesight for several years, and a clear sharp screen makes up for everything that I can't see clearly far away. I love seeing landscape photos clearly.

I have the V1 and love it, the V2 was tempting for the x86 CPU for better linux app support but the USB-C layout, 16:10 ratio and thickness just pushed me away.

I'm still wandering..Who would want the V2 over the V1???...I have my SC+ for a year now..very happy with it...I guess I will have to wait for V3 or 4 to see an improvement...
@joe10596 жыл бұрын
I found the V1 unusable due to the keyboard. V2 fixes my major pitfalls with the V1. The screen to me is perfect on the V2... can't tell the difference unless they're side by side.

I got the v2 when it was on sale at Best Buy for $430. Pulled the trigger. The keyboard always scared me on the V1. I have wide hands and it looks unnatural almost. But not having the first version and going from a 2015 Toshiba Chromebook 2 to the Samsung Chromebook Plus v2, I love it. I remember your first impression video of this device almost made me not buy it, but went for it at $430.

Honestly, on the V1, the actual typing area of the keyboard is perfectly normal. It's only the function keys, like tab and enter, which were truncated. I don't have large hands, but I have long fingers, and I thought I'd feel cramped. Not so. Of more importance to me is the deeper palm rest. The V2's shorter screen height means there's not as much palm rest.
@robertsanden13476 жыл бұрын
I have wide hands, but typing on the v2 now, I could see where the lack of depth on the palm rest areas can be a little bit of a burden, no doubt. In my hands, it darn near feels perfect.

Is it a big upgrade coming from the Toshiba?
@robertsanden13476 жыл бұрын
Yes. I think it is. The materials are better. The keyboard is better. The form factor (if you are into 2 in 1's) is better. I mean, I get what people are saying about this machine, but coming from where I was, it is really awesome in my opinion. I really thought long and hard about the HP X2 but I really think having "one machine" is more for me than a tablet with a keyboard I have to remember.

it seems that stores like bestbuy, walmart, etc. DO NOT carry the v1 model. Trying to lookup if the model was discontinued, but no luck in my research. Your review is awesome and I want to find the v1. I see some on ebay, but i'd rather buy from a big box store, but will settle from ebay if that's my only option. Would you still recommend buying the V1? thanks!!

Benny Sherman Hello! I was looking for the Samsung Chromebook V1 too, but I couldn’t find one anywhere. If you’re Canadian, I think this www.ebay.ca/itm/Samsung-12-3-Chromebook-Plus-Hexa-core-4GB-32GB-Chrome-OS-XE513C24-K01US-w-Pen/283430169707 is a good choice, if you’re American, www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-12-3-Chromebook-Plus-Hexa-core-4GB-32GB-Chrome-OS-XE513C24-K01US-w-Pen/283430169707?epid=233066529&hash=item41fdc12c6b%3Ag%3AzRwAAOSwKSlcNR4X&LH_BIN=1 this would be good!

Sweet vindication. The clearest wins go the V1's way, the V2 has cameras I don't care about at all, and the keyboard on the V1, despite my picky nature, doesn't bother me. As laptop keyboards go, I find the V1's keys a little stiff, so tiring for long stints, but it's perfectly fine. A slightly better keyboard on the V2 doesn't tip the scales on every other failing. The palm rest depth is kind of important to me, too, and you don't get that with the squat 16:10 aspect ratio.

I hope Samsung Chromebook Pro have the dual camera and stiff keyboard like the V2 and have the same screen ratio of 3:2 with USB type C on both sides and USB type A on one side with S pen still as the V2 and that'll be good for me and have the price of V2 $500 is good for that also the backlight is not very important just the dual camera and the speed and the look is what I need also let me include the nits in the Pro and greater processor than the Pro.

V2 feels like Samsung got greedy and tried to cut production cost way down by switching to shoddier components while keeping the retail price the same.... there's a ton of good competition in the Chromebook space these days, so that's going to hurt Samsung.

So, you downgrade the CPU, the screen, the Camera and all for a better keyboard. The first chromebooks made me laugh because they had these huge fans to cool a powerhungry atom or celeron. Then they started making chromebooks with exynos, and suddenly they began to perform. And not only that, the fan was lost and it lasted way longer on battery. Still it didn't quench the chrome's hunger for memory, which is probably its worst problem.

I know this Samsung Chromebook Pro and up to now it's been fine. On Thursday evening I received an update from Chrome OS and I believe it was version 69 well ever since then none of the Android apps are working they open and they freeze up and the screen flashes and I get a message in Chrome OS thing restore pages that Chrome did not shutdown properly. Those may not be the exact words but I think you understand what I'm saying so I hit restore and try it again same thing happens. Everything within Chrome OS meaning the browser works fine it's only on the Android apps that this happens. I have written to Google with no response yet and actually I called Samsung this morning and they are supposed to get back to me they have not yet have you ever heard of this or is there something wrong with the the machine if you can help me I would appreciate it I know you do not do individual help situations but I just wanted to make you aware of this issue. Thanks for your time. Oh and another thing I also did a power wash on my Chromebook and that didn't affected either. Thanks again
