In a late night crackdown, at least 11 key functionaries of Samsung India Workers Union (SIWU) affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) were detained by the Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday, October 9. This comes ahead of the proposed visit of leaders from the Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK and VCK - DMK’s alliance partners - who intended to meet the agitating workers and extend their solidarity. According to reports, the Tamil Nadu police barged into the homes of the workers and took them into preventive detention. They also allegedly dismantled the tents at the protest site after the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) lodged a complaint stating that the protest was being held in government land. The crackdown launched by the DMK government has triggered massive outrage in Tamil Nadu. TNM’s Shabbir Ahmed with more details.

Persons like u need to understand that the days of union is gone 3 decades ago. Workers if not willing to work, resign and go to other companies. But why disturbing the work with strike . R they getting minimum wages as per the statute ? Yes . Then what’s the issue .
