I switched from the S20 5G to the A54 5G. Why? 1. The A54 is about as fast as the S20 - fast enough for everyday use. 2. I need the eSim/Dualsim function while using my 1TB memory card - no S model offers this. 3. The differences are becoming less and less important for normal use in everyday life - just 3 years ago everything that the A54 offers would have been absolutely premium & the development has now progressed so far that you hardly notice the advantages of an S23. Display, games, applications & even the camera, everything runs smoothly & leads to good results. And if it sometimes takes half a second longer to load or start an application, who cares? 4. There really isn't anything annoying or cheap-looking about the A54's performance in everyday use. 5. The advantages of the S-Class are actually only the following: - Samsung Dex - USB OTG 3.1 - wireless charging - slightly faster when launching the applications ...but there is no memory card slot. Conclusion: the differences in everyday life are negligible for 95% of users - and do not justify a price difference of several $100 and there was never more premium in the A-class la with the A54. As simple as that.

Excellent summary. Samsung knows the difference between low and high end is rapidly shrinking. It's one reason why they've discontinued the A7x series .. there won't be a A74, there's no longer any room.

8 Gen 2 is far, far better than the Exynos 1380. The 1380 struggles to compare with the Snap 865, which is now 3 years old and the 8 Gen 2 almost blows 865 out of the water. The chip set makes a huge difference in literally everything, including camera performance.

Not only are they being compared, but "you get 90% of the flagship, for half the price" is being thrown around a lot too. Unbelievable for the money. Nothing beats this for what you get. Makes the Pixel 7A look overpriced especially when you consider that this Samsung has a far, far better display than my pixel 7a as well as much better speakers and the batteries don't even compare. My only concern in the long run is will the A54's Exynos 1380 chip be able to keep up through all those 4 OS updates? I've been using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro (released Oct 2018) since early 2019 and I'm starting to feel it slowing down but not to the point that it's unbearable. Android 13 with One UI 5.1 in that old Exynos 9611 is the smoothest experience I ever felt.... And Samsung doesn't degrade camera quality via updates.... The way I see it, if I’m going to be using a phone for 5 years, then it’s not actually that much more expensive to buy a $1000 phone than a $400 phone. It’s only $10 more per month, which is a fair price to pay for everything to be *good* instead of *fine*. And then in year 5, when the cheaper phone’s starting to really struggle, the more expensive phone will still be working pretty well. Obviously the $400 phone is a great value for people on a tight budget. If $10 extra a month is a big deal for you, a way to cut that off and get a perfectly usable phone is a valuable option to have. But if you can *afford* the better phone, it really doesn’t make sense to compromise on something you’re going to use for multiple hours every single day of your life.

Didn't upgrade to a current year phone because I wanted to try a fold but wasn't willing to drop $1800 on trying one out, got last year's in mediocre condition for $625. And you wanna know what the biggest improvements were that I saw on my new phone? The battery lasts longer and I don't need to own any lightning charges anymore. Is the performance better? Yeah. Do I notice that in day to day activities? No, my XR was plenty fast for 95% of what I did. I don't plan to keep my new phone for 5 years like I did for my last one. I have the S23 and A52s, and honestly, the cheaper one would have been enough for me. The only thing that convinces me about the S23 is the size. It's a pity there are no mid-rangers in the 6" dimensions. The development of phones has kind of stalled, and manufacturers don't really have much to convince us with for the flagships. Apple clearly segregates models by crudely cutting out some features. Samsung has taken a different route, offering most features but slightly weaker. As a customer, I prefer Samsung's approach, and if the next one in the A series comes in a smaller size, I'll definitely take it. :)

Some people though might undermine the benefit of longevity of flagship chipsets. I've owned an S21+ which is my first time handling a flagship and after 2 years I am not really convinced replacing it because of how well it performs. It's like new. Yes midrange phones are "90%" of a flagship when brand new but when OS updates, bloat and memory fill up a phone, over time that "small stutter" just grows and grows into something more noticeable that you just have that itch again to buy a new phone after a year or two. I hope that changes soon with midrange phones as well.

I think the A series did well with the exynos 1380 that is an equivalent of the older snapdragon 778g. Exynos to me has provided better battery life and it has only a good performance, sadly I doubt samsung will ever make exynos reach the flagship levels just because they had to make it not powerful enough for people to buy the flagships. I am using the oneplus 11 and the snapdragon 8 gen 2 still feels like it eats up the battery even though it was said to be more efficient through normal use. I am thinking of going back to the A series just because they are great all around phones, but the price is always a bit higher than other midrangers that are on par or even better than the previous A series phones.

You you might get system updates for many years to come, however, without the higher efficiency processor in a year or two the performance doesn’t feel as good running the system, and that’s a big difference. If you use the phone for one year or two, you can go for a cheaper one if you use it for more than two years a better processor is required for a quality experience.

I've spent a lot of money on flagship Samsung phones since the S3 came out, and I had a habit of breaking them. I finally grew up and managed to keep the same one for several years, the Note 9. After 5 years it started having issues though. Performance, battery life, and especially "burn in" on the OLED screen. I was planning on getting a Fold but they never got an internal S Pen option, and I got to thinking, do I need all the new flashy stuff? I basically just wanted my Note 9 again, and the a54 is the same size screen, bigger battery, equally powerful chip, even better aesthetics. The only drawbacks are the less scratch resistant screen, lower resolution (I always had battery saver on so it was 1070p anyway) and no notification LEDs. For 1/4 the price it's money well spent. I've had it about 3 months now and unless Samsung does something incredible with the flagship S or Z series, or neuters the mid range A series, I don't think I'll ever spend that much again.

4 years ago I got an LG G8s for $400, closest thing to a flagship, 3 good lenses, premium materials, good display and good haptics for a circular vibration motor. Sadly that phone had to be replaced and I was looking at that $400 price range and I got extremely disappointed, there is no new phone today at $400 that outperforms my 4 years old phone, I really wanted the a54 because of the Samsung support and all but I tested it and it was an overall downgrade from my 4 years old phone ! The only thing the a54 is better at is the screen brightness and refresh rate, that's it... Bought the S23 and couldn't be happier. Overall the experience is the same, the apps open up just as fast as on my old phone, only in heavy multitasking usage the s23 beats the hell out of the G8s and the cameras are just gorgeous, the LG records mindblowing steady 4k 60fps vids while the a54's 4k 30 fps footage is ughhh... despite having OIS, 4k recording kills that phone, the s23 on the other hand is a big step up from the LG in terms of video recording, the 4k 60 is stunning. The a54 is a great phone overall, don't get me wrong, if you're coming from a midrange you'll be pleased, or no? Asus launched back in 2016 the Zenfone 3, a midrange with a pretty slow Snapdragon 625 chip for today's standards but that phone is capable of 4k 30 fps, the videos are similarly steady to the A54... so no big deal with the a54 camera :\ The A54 is a good phone but not for people who love taking pictures/videos and play games. The price difference is worth it, fully ! The s23 rewards the users with a better feel in the hand, awesome haptics, great camera integration in social apps, iphone-level feel, from the screen to body ratio, to the uniform bezel, the size, the weight, the responsiveness. The S23 is totally worth it and the rather small 3900mAh battery holds up like a champ, it's a shame the 5000mAh A54 gets roughly the same SoT as the S23 despite the slower performance. Now I know I might have pissed off a lot of people but the A54 really isn't that bad of a phone, it's awesome, Samsung has the most stable phones from the entire android market, at work I have a galaxy a12 and despite being cheap af it never crashed on me, never ! Very reliable phones, never had calling issues with samsung or absurd network issues like other 'big' brands had/have. Probably and sadly, the A54 is the best $400 new phone money could buy. In Europe the S23 is the first S series worth buying in many years because of the Snapdragon chip.

Something I feel this video doesn't talk about enough is longevity. While yes, both phones will technically be supported for the same amount of time, I guarantee you the snapdragon chip on the s23 is going to hold up better than the exynos on the a54. The a54 might feel like it's near the s23's level right now, but later down the line, when both phones have aged, that exynos chip is going to drag the entire experience down while the snapdragon is going to hold up much better.

@@planetminecraft411 It makes sense for Apple products honestly. Samsung is trying to be innovative but in certain areas, they aren't being very innovative. As Wade pointed out, I'm shocked Samsung hasn't changed their display on their flagships but I guess it's since they're so good that they don't need fixing.
