**CORRECTION** The Fold 4 has an IPX8 rating for water resistance ONLY, not an IP68 rating (which would include dust resistance). MrMobile regrets the error.

I've said on these videos numerous times that I wasn't fully convinced when it came to folding phones. Then I was able to take advantage of a promotion where a Fold 4 was only $800. I got one and I was wrong. Folding screens are absolutely the future. It's the first time in the last decade that I feel like I have something new and exciting. Once thr price comes down, these folding phones are going to be everywhere.

The Fold 4 is fantastic. I like the double thickness when folded as I have something to grip. A thicker case for my Note 9 I used previously was a must, as that thing slipped easily from my hand. But when opened, the thinness of what has become a tablet is premium. I got the Fold 4 starter pack for free on a discount, thinking how I loved the S Pen on my Note 9. But, I tend to leave the kickstand on nowadays. The Fold 4 replaced my tablet and laptop for watching KZbin and Netflix, and I can't get enough of the convenience of watching content on such a large screen, hands-free, then simply folding the kickstand, fold the screen and popping it into my pocket. Doesn't matter if I'm at home, on break at work, or travelling, I have the same experience wherever I go and I love it. What I also came to love is mobile games. I was a casual gamer with no dedicated console or PC for this purpose so I played on my phone every so often, but playing games unfolded is simply spectacular. I never realised how much I was missing with a standard smartphone screen. The Fold also has enough power to enjoy games on highest settings without breaking a sweat. In terms of productivity, being able to work on a few things at once anywhere, while watching KZbin, is great already, but then being able to just fold it into your pocket is where it's at.

At last! Thanks to your long term reviews I was eagerly wanting a Fold. Last year I tried the Flip but returned immediately because the horrendous battery life. This year and thanks to Samsung's amazing trade in deals, finally got my first Fold an there's no turning back. I concur with all the positives you mentioned and definitely it changed the way I use my devices. I even have Galaxy Tab S7 plus that gets less and less use everyday. I'm into the Fold and there's no turning back, now I found every other phone boring, thnaks for your top notch work!

Even their pre order bonus here in Australia is amazing, got the galaxy watch 5. Apple never does anything like this! The only thing i would want better, is better selfie cameras on the front and big screen. Still have a lot to get used to, so i can get the most out of it, but been the best change.

It's narrow. Either for precise tasks, like typing (though this depends on the size of your fingers) and for certain apps that can't handle narrower aspect ratios than 21:9. It has it's advantage of course as it makes the Fold into a tiny one handed phone, but it still could be wider. Even with a better hinge design where the hinge mechanism is more tucked behind the screen.
@jakesapir

I've been waiting for this one! As someone who got this as my very first foldable, I like it a lot, but there are definitely compromises. Some apps don't take well to split-screen, with Discord in particular not working right unless you restart the app. Typing is also harder, at least for me. But, the cameras are very good, it charges fast enough that the battery drain is livable, and when the split screen works, it REALLY works. It's definitely frustrating sometimes when things don't just work, but it works well enough that I think I would have a hard time going back to a traditional phone. That said, we are still firmly in early adopter territory, in my opinion. It's not worth it for most people until the kinks are worked out.

Still rocking my ZFlip 3. After 13 months it's been honestly a pleasure. I love having a stand no matter where I am, I usually fold it just a bit then put it in landscape and like a card, it holds itself up so I can watch content. The cameras are ok but not for those who love photography. As for the durability, I haven't had any issues and I haven't babied it so I guess it's a little luck on my part.

Brand new fold user here. Got mine this morning. Here are some of my first thoughts. It's pricey but Samsung gives you a lot of freebies, makes the purchase experience more exciting. I got the earbuds pro, pen, fast charger and case. 2. Its heavy but it's not as bad as it sounds half the time. Usable. 3. The slim form factor makes it easy to hold the phone. But then the front screen is a little narrow. I wish we could have both. 4. This foldable idea is not a gimmick. It is super useful to have easy access to a big screen. It's super useful for a phone to be It's own stand. 5. The inside screen is not as fragile as I imagined. 6. Battery's shit. I think we are in the early stages of a really big thing here.

I have noticed a big difference between the new Fold 4 and my last year's Fold 3. The Fold 4 seems to be smoother and has a little faster reaction time. I had trouble with the SPen not wanting to work on certain spots on the large screen to bring up the on screen keyboard when typing a message or document. Samsung also fixed the problem on the front screen where the navigation buttons and a website's buttons were on top of each our in some apps. That was my real frustration with using the smaller screen. I hope that in the future Folds, the SPen will also work with the smaller outer screen since I came from having many Note phones. Once a stylus user, I always want to pick up a stylus.

I've been eagerly awaiting this review. To say I love my Fold 4 would be an understatement. I have never used a phone so much and I can't even begin to explain all the different things I use now that I never did before (like downloading full seasons of shows with abandon and even light gaming which I never bothered with at any point). I no longer stop what I'm doing when I need to do something else...I just split that screen and carry on. This thing is a game changer and I don't think I can ever go back.

Yup, it's shocking how much I use my Fold 4 compared to my older Note 10. Before I got my Fold 4 I would consistently grab my laptop whenever I needed to do anything more than checking notifications, reply on Telegram, read the news etc. With the Fold 4 I rarely touch my laptop anymore since it's just so easy to actually be productive. I also started on Breaking Bad again on Netflix on my Fold since the screen is so awesome. It's a productivity and entertainment monster, and I love it.

This. My impression of one week with the fold4 is "this is what smartphones should be". From gaming, to using flex mode to take videos for work, to great for phones stereo speakers, everything is just that next level. Coming from the note 9 was like jumping a decade ahead in everything but battery. It's a worthy negative that a device is used too much.

I got the Z Fold 3 the month it came out so right around 1½ years of daily use. And I've loved it. The well-known advantages are absolutely true. I love having a Kindle-sized reader in my pocket. Editing photos on a bigger screen makes it easier, and handing it to a friend to show the photo is a treat. Webpages, spreadsheets, games: all benefit from the increased real estate. The problem is, it isn't aging well. The screen protector started bubbling up a year in; minor at first, getting worse with time. And in this corner of Appalachia, the nearest repair facility is a couple hours'drive away. The hinge is showing its age also. It doesn't open/shut as crisply, not lie as flat as it used to. No grit, just age. Also, as a Note guy from way back, I miss having a Bluetooth stylus in a silo on the phone. I do use those little stylus tricks, my favorite being the ability to trip the shutter without touching the phone -.great for tricky zoom shots where any vibration would ruin the pic. Trading in on a S23 Ultra,. somewhat regretfully. But there's a lot of screen there, too. Maybe the Fold 4 solves some of these problems. Time will tell. No stylus-in-silo; I could maybe accept that, if all my other concerns are resolved.

Let's hope the Oppo N 2 rumored EU/US release as well as the long prophecised Pixel Fold come to pass to give Samsung some incentive to go beyond incremental updates. (Tho coming from a SD, the software polish blew me away).

Good video. One thing I want to comment on is the lack of Good Lock mention in any review from anyone (not just you). One Hand Operation has provided a swipe gesture now for some time to do split screen and it works MUCH better than Samsung's awkward two finger gesture in 12L. Just food for thought that One Hand Operation is an amazing tool that I think a lot of "enthusiasts' should get into.

I'm finding my fold 4 more than adequate to take care of my daily needs. Whether it is reading from the Kobo app on my morning commute, or opening up spreadsheets or pdfs on the go, the experience is a joy on a large screen. Also enjoy the slim profile of the phone for quick one hand use on the front screen. Actually like the slimness of the device - fits nicely in my pockets and the bulk is hardly noticeable. My needs are not so demanding and I am usually ending my day with at least 50% battery. Definitely will be sticking with foldables - the tech can only get better.

Been waiting on your review for this. Glad to finally see it. I picked up a Fold4 and love it. It's my first foldable phone and I never thought I'd use a lot of the multitasking features. But since I've had it in hand, the larger inner display has come in handy so many times already. Seeing the photos I took on the left with my viewfinder on the right is awesome. The camera itself is great. I'm coming from an S21 Ultra and all I really miss from the rear cameras is the 10x optical zoom. I even took it to a few concerts already and it did better than I expected in low light (though not amazing). I rarely use the side by side apps, but when I do, I love it. Not having to switch between apps constantly for reference while working on an email or something is awesome. Honestly, as someone who didn't own any previous Fold phones I don't mind the iterative nature of the changes here. Battery, cameras, and durability are all finally to a point where I felt like it was worth dropping the $1800 on one (minus some deals and great trade in from Samsung) and I don't regret it one bit.

Got my first Fold after following the Fold series since the beginning!! Definitely never going back to a regular phone!! Biggest gripes are Instagram stories (they're dramatically cropped and recently they freeze if I try to skip to the next story, only on the inner display) and KZbin's glitchy picture-in-picture mode!! Still easily the best phone money can buy!!! Stats and specs can't replicate true innovation, and that's why the Fold continues it's reign as the king of smartphones and the pinnacle of cutting-edge technology in 2022!!

First all lets get this out of the way first MrMobile is the GOAT when it comes to phone reviews. having been a fold 3 owner I couldn't wait to get it, fantastic phone no question, but it made me realise what I wanted from a phone and what was important to me, I also found that I spent most of my time using the outer screen, but the turning point for me when I realised its not for me was on a trip to London and I needed a fire and forget camera which I found the fold 3 lacking, so swapped to the s22 ultra and now to the 6 pro (for some reason it just works for me) . for anybody who thinks about a foldable think about your use case, Z folds are exceptional phones but only if you use the large screen which is a strange thing to say but I didn't use these large screen and wide screen video content aint the best on them.

Happy to see your review is finally out. I was waiting for it patiently ^^ I've been using the Fold 4 for a few weeks now, and I absolutely love it, and very much agree with your review. I don't use the split screen feature as much as I'd like yet (I'm still not completely used to it), but for many other tasks the main screen has been absolutely fantastic and a considerable upgrade from ordinary phones. It's especially obvious when reading articles or browsing the apps for websites that are less optimized for mobile screens (or when the mobile version of the site is inferior). It is, however, as you said, very heavy, and every so often my hands get tired, even when holding it with two hands. When I pick up my old Pixel 5 after that (which is really light even for its size) I'm always quite surprised. Additionally, some apps really don't use the foldable screen very well yet. A lot of that is of course on app developers, and we can only wait for them to improve their apps while Foldables get more and more popular. Occasionally, the software on the Fold 4 also caused inconsistencies themselves confuse and slightly annoy me. E.g., Telegram, which normally has a split screen on the inner screen, sometimes shows the single panel phone UI. (I actually prefer that for Telegram at least, since typing messages feels a bit easier that way - for other apps, I like the split mode, that's why I don't want to disable the system setting.) It's also a bit frustrating that the multitasking app bar doesn't work if you use a 3rd-party launcher like Niagara Launcher. To my knowledge, there's no reason for that, since stock Android 12L supports it just fine. Thus, this must've been a deliberate decision by Samsung. Btw, I haven't figured out yet how to use the cover screen if the phone is slightly folded open, like you do at 2:05. Is there maybe a setting that I'm missing? Lastly, my Fold 4 also sometimes makes that weird sound when I open it. It sounds like the screen protector is coming off any moment, but visually everything looks and feels fine. Generally, compared to my friend's Fold 3, the hinge mechanism feels like a slight downgrade honestly. The missing gears (from what I've heard) mean the opening and folding is way less smooth and inconsistent. Otherwise, the better specs, better camera, and slightly bigger cover screen are of course much preferable. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and giving such an informative and interesting review!

Great review as always. I've now had the last 3 generations of galaxy fold. The 4 is finally what I'd consider perfect. The front screen is now wide enough to type comfortably. The cameras are excellent and my biggest flaw of the 3 (battery life) has been addressed with the new more efficient chip. Exact same use case I have an extra 20% battery remaining at the end of the day. I also used to get little stutters every once in a while that the 8+ gen 1 has eliminated. After 3 successive generations I may finally skip the next one as the 4 does it all.

My favorite tech reviewer went to my old hometown of Binghamton NY… that would have made my day if I was in town and ran into Michael Fisher and Jaime Rivera. Phones not for me, but I applaud the video and your work. Also wish you would continue the search for the next Pebble watch type. Still haven’t been as happy as I have with that watch for it’s time.

Nice review! Coming from S22U and got my Fold 4 for 3 weeks, so far I'm happy with the battery life but perhaps it's because I'm not using the phone much during work time. Last week I watched KZbin to learn how to cook chicken breast, with Google Keep opened to jot down the key points, and Chrome on the same screen to search for local chicken breast and ingredients seller, and it was just so powerfully convenient!

yes, I hear that little ‘crackling’ sound sometimes, but if I ooen it in stages, the craclking sound goes away, but I guess you should be able to just open and close the screen quite quickly, id rather open it slowly in stages, closing it doesnt seem to make the sound as much. The screen is indeed super fine and is the best phone I’ve used in a loooong time.

Love your foldable phone reviews cause you genuinely use them to their full extent and then some. I am still holding out to see what Google ends up doing with their foldable ambitions. I am in no rush to jump onto the foldable wagon but I do admit to feeling left out at times when I see how much use you get out of it, I envision using a foldable in many of those same ways and how it can legitimately take over certain duties I would pull out my laptop to do. I don't see Google with their first foldable having anywhere near a mature software experience that Samsung has with the Fold 4 so I am preparing for disappointment but I'm still a Pixel fan more than anything else so I'm still curious to see what they come up with.

I went from fold 2 to 3 and now to the 4. Not sure what is is but this one 'feels' amazing to hold compared to the last 2. Where i hesitated to completely daily drive the fold 3 (i also had a pixel 6 pro at the time), i feel much more confident to daily drive this one. P. S: apparently, the crease is still pretty deep because, according to Samsung, it helps with the water resistancy. Which i will happly take over no water water protection with minimal crease.

I know Samsung has a head start and can get away with downsides, but I wish reviewers were as accepting to LG phones. LG V60 beats this folding phone in many many ways. It's not directly apples to apples comparison, but I really wish LG got same recognition and acceptance besides its downsides like Samsung gets. V60 is probably my favorite phone so far and is so much more versatile in its own way with very limited compromises compared to fold. How I wish they were still around and we would have been seeing LG rollables by now. Love and respect to LG.

Good review! I have my Fold 4 for two weeks now and am loving it, too. I do not mind the 25 Watts charging. That is actually better for the battery. Since this is a phone I am planning to keep for more than two years, this is important. Using Outlook on the Fold is so great! Finally, you can see the mail you are answering on the left screen and do not have to scroll down all the time. Have been using it a lot for lesser complex email processing. But even those that require research are a delight to work on with this phone. You can have a website open, a PDF or anything and still write your mail on the right side.

Had a fold 4 for around a year second hand, and only recently traded in and used the reorder deals to get a fold 6, mostly for the longer software and security updates and not worrying about warranty as I have a receipt now. I want to use my phones properly for at least half a decade, which I couldn't do safely with my wonderful note 9

I bought the Fold 4 when it came out and loved it. It's the coolest device I've ever used. I also returned it because there are still too many drawbacks and compromises to warrant spending that kind of money. Still, I look forward to using a future folding phone once they've ironed out more of the kinks.

@@Tobetheone74 how? It's the coolest device I've ever used despite its drawbacks, but I also don't feel like I can currently justify spending $1800 on it. What part of that is contradictory? All of the things I said can be possible at the same time.
