Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Hands-On Review

The Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Samsung's flagship phablet, now looks better than ever with improved features that take advantage of the Note's companion - the S-Pen.
This new phone sports a glass back that curves downward on both sides. It’s very similar to the curved screen on the Galaxy S6 Edge. The curved back makes the phone grippable, it’s a natural fit atop the curves of your palm. The S-Pen has been redesigned and we’re digging this one. The plastic S-Pens of generations past have looked like after thoughts. Not this one, it looks as premium as the phone itself. The pen is also more securely tucked away into the phone thanks to a new spring loading mechanism.

excellent review! I have been waiting for this phone for a long time, that was pretty disappointed by the things we lost! But after your video, I am feeling much better about the phone! I do like a lot of the cool new features, especially the S Pen improved functionality! While the phone is very pretty, I am NOT a fan of glass! I would take the plastic back in a heartbeat to get a removable battery and SD card! Anyway, thank you for a wonderful video! It was the best I've seen on the note 5 so far! Way to stay ahead of the game! :-)

Thanks for the wonderful feedback on our video. We're glad it was helpful. Samsung should make leather cases like Apple does for the iPhone. That would make it more grippable. Let me double check which cases they are offering again. I have a photo of the selection somewhere. S-Pen is much improved from previous generations. Nib has been changed for better sensitivity. Latency too so you get that immediate feedback when you write something.

First thoughts: Beautiful. Lots of pros, some cons. I would be scared to drop it haha. Quick wireless charging is pretty bauce. What are your thoughts on GN5 vs LG G4? Mainly... handling both and function?

doubledoubleandfries The G4 is one that you wouldn't mind putting down on a rough surface. It's a bit tough that way. The Note is better feature-wise. It really depends on what you're after. Need swappable batteries, go with the G4.

Thanks. Phone starts at 32GB so I don't think loss of micro SD is as bad as most people think. Non removable battery will be clincher for you. Do you replace batteries a lot?

Nice review. I've decided to get the Note 5 though I will have to keep it away from my 5 year old with that pen being so easy to put the wrong way in! But it's a design flaw I can live with. A beautiful device. Gold color for me as you can't see the finger marks so much. After a lot of thought I feel it's a big upgrade from Note 4 as I use mostly cloud storage, I write and draw a lot so the better pen is great. Also for those expecting to get these same features on Note 4 later......it ain't going to happen. You will get Marshmallow though and the Note 4 is still great.

I stopped watching at the 1:52 mark when he nonchalantly mentions "there is no Micro SD Card Slot." Shame on you Samsung for removing one of it's best features. Especially at a time when Micro SD Cards are getting cheaper. HTC ONE M9 for me it is.

NO SD card! no IR... sounds like more of a downgrade to me ... Functionality over form samsung.. To remove the SD card is just to keep the phone companies happy so they can charge us an arm and a leg for memory. Nopes Ill be keeping my Note4 thanks very much and await all the software upgrades incoming down the line.
