Samsung recommends you wear it on your index finger because that’s what you’re supposed to use to tap with for the gestures but they said you can wear it on any finger.

From Oura who's been doing this much longer: According to Oura, the index finger is recommended for the best performance and accuracy of their ring. The index finger usually provides a more secure fit, which is important for maintaining contact between the ring's sensors and your skin. If you prefer another finger, the middle or ring fingers are also suitable, but you should avoid fingers with large knuckles.

In general, fingers are considered more accurate than wrists for blood oxygen readings: Fingers Fingers are more sensitive to body movement, have stronger pulse signals, and work well with all skin tones. The middle or index finger are often preferred because of their blood flow and skin thickness. Wrists Algorithms used in traditional fingertip sensors may not work well for wrist measurements, and some studies have found that over 90% of wrist readings can be inaccurate. However, wrist oximeters can be useful for sleep studies and other activities where wires aren't practical.

That's not true. The reason you are supposed to wear it on your index finger is actually a medical reason. There are veins that go directly from your index finger to your heart so you get a much better reading of your heartbeats@@TechOdyssey

@@jdmz1103 I would have a third device If my Samsung galaxy watch weren’t back ordered for a month. Which I also bought. The Apple Watch is a known , accurate device for the biometric data that it measures. The point of the video is I noticed very inaccurate/inconsistent data and am sharing it because people are concerned and have questions about the ring. It’s not a direct review for “which is better”. They aren’t the same products. I used what I had available. If you’re that offended by “snarky” then I’m sorry. That being said, I have had the ring in gold too btw best color for a week and have found the metrics to be marginal at Best. I also have the Galaxy watch 7. I am an avid fitness person, lots of exercise and have been monitoring stats for years. The ring gives stats the are way off especially on steps and heart rate. It also doesn't always connect or it will say it's connected when it's not on my finger and in the case. How do you know your Apple watch is more accurate? I'm not saying the Galaxy Ring is 100% accurate, but it matches my Garmin Epix Pro and my Oura ring on a few things. The only thing that is off on the Galaxy Ring is the HRV. Also, the sleep stages probably not good to compare. They'll be different from device to device. Even the gold standard of detecting the sleep stages is like 80% accurate.

@TechOdyssey I don't think the Apple watch is known to be the most accurate for sleep tracking, at least from sources that I've watched that have done detailed reviews on this. I think Oura or Whoop would track better in that. And I trust my Garmin Epix Pro as well. I'm not saying the Galaxy Ring is better in accuracy, but it'd would have been better to include a 3rd device. I've been wearing my Oura ring, Galaxy Ring, and Garmin Epix Pro the last few days. Most of the things that you've called out as complete inaccuracies are typically within a reasonable measurement on the 3 devices that I have. The only thing that I've noticed way off is HRV, but all 3 are usually off on that but consistent with themselves on a daily basis.

The ability to “READ” information doesn’t help if the sensors are incorrect to begin with. You can update the software to interpret data all you want but if the wrong data is sent from the sensors what good does that do? If these could be updated then why haven’t the last 3 iterations of the watch been updated and still have shit sensors? I know lots of dudes that have a size 12 or 13 ring finger and can’t wear one of these on an index finger so is the presumption that if you can’t wear it on your index finger then it’s not accurate? Fingers are more accurate when you use a pulse ox on a finger tip. I don't think it's fair to say that the underside of the lower part of the digit is more accurate, but also the point of the video was to illustrate the lack of accuracy in the ring, not so much a "this is better" argument - former EMT-intermediate
@SirRob05
@SirRob05 2 ай бұрын
@TechOdyssey The Galaxy ring can measure the pulse more directly from the arteries in the finger, which may provide a more stable and accurate reading. I doubt you disagree with that, as you were an EMT. The wrist has a more complex structure with bones, tendons, and muscles, which can sometimes interfere with the optical sensors used to detect the pulse. You were an EMT, so you already know that. Watches shift and move, rings don't. I'm not saying the Apple watch is bad or anything like that, watches can't measure your heart rate like rings can on a consistent basis. I'm sure the Samsung Galaxy watches have the same problem to Apple watches do. That's all I'm saying.
@TechOdyssey
@TechOdyssey 2 ай бұрын
@@SirRob05 the rings do shift though. They’re designed with the sensors on the bottom that are supposed to seated on the underside of the finger. It had a marker indicator for positioning. It can easily move or get turned, even more easily than a watch. Another issue is the sensor and the power. The ring afaik checks every 15 min for HR/O2. It’s very limited on battery and these apparatus use more than nominal power. The watch has more powerful sensors and checks constantly in many cases. So it’s not only a location and physiological issue.
@SirRob05
@SirRob05 2 ай бұрын
@TechOdyssey that's the reason Samsung, and similar health ring companies, send you a sizing kit. The perfect fit is necessary. The sensors have to be on the bottom, the arteries and capillaries under the finger's skin are closer to the surface at the bottom of the finger, making it easier for sensors to detect blood flow and such. Plus, the top of the finger is more exposed to external elements and activities that might interfere with sensor readings. The Oura Ring does the same thing as samsung and they are huge. I can see the Apple watch and Samsung watch being good with steps. But as far as vitals and such, they can't beat a ring.
