Fantastic comparison! Oh wow they're MUCH more similar than I was expecting, damn! But yeah, I definitely agree that the Galaxy is better overall, specially considering how versatile it is. Btw can the S21 Ultra do night mode portraits?

Low light: I just tried pro video mode: Normally auto iso is set to max 3200. I put it down to 1600, even 800. Of course it will be more dark video, but looks more clean and natural. Night should be night with black sky. And manual focus (and FHD30 ) .

I've noticed in all s21 night video footage so far the image breaks up when moving. Daytime footage I really can't see a stabilization difference vs the max. Do you guys think this is a hardware issue, or something a future software update might fix?

I still think a the sky is a little too saturated and dark in a lot of shots on both. Thats about the only drawback I see. 4:18 samsung wins with better dynamic range but the iphone has better white balance on the wagon wheel.

I like Samsung's hardware, but the iPhone still is better for a lot of processing and video. A pity, as to get the hardware we'll have to wait a while on iPhone. S21 Ultra would be great for RAW photography if all lenses support it.

If you look closely, the iPhones pixels in the images hold together better than Samsungs do. You could call them stronger if you will. Samsungs images fall apart faster when zooming in than apples do in regular 12 mp mode, that's why apples pictures always look like they have more detail without zooming(better pixels). Samsungs tetra binning gets rid of finer details than a normal 12mp sensor(typing on an s21 ultra)
@GrantLikesTech3 жыл бұрын
IDK, but I do feel this is partly why Apple/Google are sticking with their tried and true 12MP sensors. Those who have gone to these larger sensors are still fine tuning their pixel binning algorithms, but they have come a long way from last year.
@deadlyalliance82813 жыл бұрын
@@GrantLikesTech I agree. I would love to see a true 1/1.2 inch 12 mp sensor. It would absolutely kill it. Sensor read out shouldn't be an issue because it's not reading out 100+ million pixels and then binning them down. Not only that but they could also use the whole sensor readout for video making the quality higher. (I don't think the 21 ultra does but I could be wrong). Sony was on the right track with their 1/1.7 inch 12 mp sensor in the Xperia 1 mark 2 however it does fall pretty short compared to the 21 ultra and 12 pro max. Samsung is on the road to release their next 1/1.12 inch gn2 50 mp sensor that bins down to 12.5 mp images. I think that thing will be an absolute beast. And rumor has it hauwei is putting two 1 inch sensors in their p50 pro. The next couple years of mobile photography is really heating up. I forgot to mention and give credit to Samsung where it is due though! And that's with the 108mp mode in daylight. You can capture a ridiculous amount of detail that not many other phones can capture. (blows away iPhone, sony LG, one plus etc etc. That mode in daylight, is veylry impressive. Hauweis 50mp AI mode and other phones that uses Samsungs first Gen hm1 or hm2 sensor are just about on par with Samsung in the dapartment.
@nycbx714 жыл бұрын
Both are really good I prefer the S21 but i will say one area where Samsung cannot compete with either their iPhone or the pixel is shutter speed when taking pics of any type of moving subject ie a dog or child Samsung shot will come out blurry almost 💯 of the time where as the other 2 phone nail it almost 💯 of the time. Samsung has always had a very slow shutter speed I don’t know why they never fix this.
@ml-hy2sh4 жыл бұрын
well, we can always use another camera app, like open camera, gcam ... if we are in that rush mode.
@GrantLikesTech4 жыл бұрын
True, most phones with these larger sensors don't have the fastest shutter speed. Most likely due to the amount of data they take in.

This is a very good point that almost no reviews cover! I was hoping the laser focus would have improved this on s21 vs s20 ultra, but it is still a problem. Love everything else about s21 u though!
@o0YumRamen0o4 жыл бұрын
True! Samsung phones since the Galaxy S6 have such slow shutter speeds, even in daylight, they tend to blur anything that is in motion. This is the Only thing holding me back from buying a Samsung.
