Samsung Galaxy S22 vs S21 Review | Exynos 2200 Strikes Back?!

For me, upgrading from the S21 to s22 is a mugs game as Samsung only offers £270 trade-in for the S22 (Samsung secondhand prices suck) so to upgrade to the S22 you will have to pay £500 more! There is no way anyone could justify doing that and in fact for me the S21 may even be the slightly better phone as it is certainly better optimised than my crappy Exynos 2200! So this really should not be a question, at least in Europe as it is not good value or even close. As for whether you buy a S22 or S21, secondhand the S21 has bombed in price and can be had for less than £300 so cheaper than the underwhelming A53 by a good margin. So I would def look for a good secondhand S21 and save around £470. Whatever way you spin it, the s22 is an easy pass if the S21 is in the equation. Though the caveat is that unless you really want a compact Android then other options would be better as they will not have Exynos chips.

One year does not justify a brand new 1000 to 1400 dollar device. Even when you account for trade in credits. Most users can skip one, two, even three phone generations just fine. Since... what 2015 the industry has been just releasing iterations. These iterations while important are just iterations, not innovations worth several hundred bucks.

The trade in value is terrible from Samsung. At least 50% drop in value even if your trade in phone is less than 6 months old!

Going for the S21 FE now the price is lower and really for the larger screen. I would have preferred the snapdragon version but can't get it in the UK. Do you know if Samsung would still support the warranty of an EU version bought from a retailer in the UK?

Comparison videos often examine two consecutive versions and try to answer "Should you upgrade or not". I need a new phone and I am looking to buy a second-hand Galaxy. There is only a 50$/€ between the Galaxy S21 and S22, which one should I get then?

I have recently upgraded to S22 from S21 and as per my experience, the battery life of S22 is no worse than S21 and is a bit better. I find S22 is better than S21 in every respect. I dont know why some people are criticizing this beautiful phone for having a bad battery life. A small phone is not meant for heavy users and gamers and that is obvious. Put it to power saving mode and it will last almost as long as iphone 13.

That new battery tech is going to be available to all smartphones next year though Chinese OEMs already have better battery tech. I am not sure about Samsung having a new optimised chipset as the last I heard was that they have halted 3nm tests due to awful yield rates, under 10%, which is not even close to being acceptable! Eg TSMC has 70% yields. Samsung talk the talk but have to date never really walked the walk where chips are concerned. Even back when, Apple dumped them due to how bad they were, having lost Apple, Qualcomm and Nvidia have now moved their 2022 business to TSMC. So I would not hold your breath based on Samsung’s marketing ($2 billion a year).

Nah, I remembered it was plastic the second I'd pick the S21 up, every time. Couldn't get rid of that cheap POS fast enough. Samsung deserves all of the abuse they got for building a member of its flagship line like a $200 budget device. Really did a number on Samsung's brand image going by public metrics.

Exynos sucks in s21, get s22 Snapdragon.. why? Cuz s21 with Exynos can only record full hd video for 10 minutes the longest due to heat issue, while s22 could record fhd an hour no problem
