Samsung Galaxy SmartTag2 - Worth the upgrade over SmartTag 1?

The battery on my original one on my car keys lasted for about two years. It constantly said low battery, but it kept going. Based on what you discussed in the video, there is no reason for me to upgrade to the newer one. I'm happy with the way mine runs.

I think that's a good assessment... unless you have a UWB phone and really want that feature, there is too much of a reason to upgrade. They ARE better - longer battery life, etc but if you already have tags that are working great... upgrade unneeded. Thanks for watching and commenting!

What do you give up when you using the power savings mode? Can you still track and navigate to the device the same way? All I want to use it for is the tracking feature.

Good question, hard to tell at this point but I'm pretty sure it will simply ping the server less often. Depending on your use, might not matter much.

I now have five(5) SmartTag2 trackers, but still can't find the Samsung branded silicone or rugged cases. I was able to buy Spigen cases and they're OK for $20 each. Thanks for your reviews. 👍🏾

I recently bought smarttag2 with rugged case , but honestly I dont find rugged case to be very useful. I still got scratches on my st2 would prefer silicon case over it.

@@NorthernOutlanders Was it the Samsung case or the Spigen? I got a couple of the Spigen cases and they seem "rugged" but time will tell. I'd still like to get a Samsung branded silicone case... Where did you get yours?

I have the smart tag plus and new smart tag 2. I put both in my sons car just to see which one was better. The older smart tag plus i got twice as many notifications that is was found over the new smart tag 2.

I noticed the same. The smart tag 2 is lacking accurate and frequent offline updates and my tag is NOT! in power saving mode. Now I understand the long battery life which is simply achieved by the infrequent updates and long time gaps between them. I regret having bought the Tag 2 and cannot recommend it. I managed to buy another Smart Tag+ but they are hard to find and cost now almost double.

Do you know if the Smart Tag2 is compatible with the Galaxy S21 FE, since the FE does not have UWB technology?

Smarttag is compatible with any Samsung phone running android 10 or newer (UWB is just for directional finding which is only available on the S + or ultra phones)

The Smart Tag 2 appears to only transmit its location when it is not moving for some time and the smart phone receiving it has GPS coordinates. I had a trip from home to a underground railway station parking 15 km away. Almost not traffic and a lot of green lights in both directions. According to the history I never left home all day.

I like that the smart tag 2 is thinner. I don't like that it's too long with that unnecessary huge hole.

As noticed with all the other reviews that this one is also lacking detailed information on the Smart Tag 2 offline tracking capabilities. Don't even consider the + ever (I have 3 of them they last 6 months max and re reboot randomly, as they play the battery inserted sound) never a problem with smarttag 1 I keep all my smarttag 2 power saving mode unless I need to find it precisely find them or trigger the sounder as it turns off the (requires a Samsung S##+ or ultra phone for UWB)

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does not support the AI finding of UWB tags, while the S22 (don't know about S23) does. 😕

All phones that are s21 (or higher ) + or ultra support precise finding (but non of the base S models have UWB witch is very annoying) AR finding (where it overlays the live camera with approx location of the tag on the screen unsure about that)

I was hoping for bigger differences as in functionality the other improvements are not enough to make me want to toss out my smart tag Plus for the smart tag 2 I also don't like the fact that it's bigger, that's sort of Trump's that is thinner.

The biggest difference is UWB but for anyone without a UWB phone it doesn't do much. Battery life is doubled, that's a pretty big deal.

They need to have one that can be hidden within a pew pew. It has to be small enough and tough enough. I know they make some confetti stuff, but those don't track I waited for a good review on the new model, and I finally found it. I'll be putting a few in my vehicles. Thieves will typically dump the car a small area a way. By doing this, they are creating what we call, "A duck." They will leave the car to see if the vehicle has been recovered reference having an Air Tag or Smart Tag. They will leave them for weeks at a time. After the coast is clear. The dirtbag will go and recover the vehicle. This is firsthand knowledge given to me from one of my "Clients." They all like to talk and brag about what they do to get in jail. I don't even have to ask them. They just spout it out of their mouth. A couple of them have told me that they still go through the car and search the most obvious places looking for tags, regardless of it's an Apple or Samsung. They said people use the top trim around the top of the window, near the weather stripping. The weather stripping is removed, and the cardboard or composite headliner is pulled down to allow for the Air Tag/Smart Tag placement. He said the better place would be under the dash. He said paint the Tag black, get a good flashlight and shove it as far as you can up under the dash. This is where LoJack used to hide their systems. Time can be on your side. However, don't ever go alone to recover your vehicle. If you spot it, call your local Sheriff's or Police department. If they have a special unit or the possible manpower, which I highly doubt, they might want to sit on it for a while. The main thing is being safe. Be safe all. Great video.

@TechItBeforeYouWreckIt In my case, I think the SmartTag "1" is still better because I bonded it to the upper corner, so it doesn't take up much space and has the advantage of Samsung location by other devices. Besides, in Brazil, we probably don't have as many Tile users as Samsung users to help locate the device.
