when turning on the hard fall detection there is a sub menu which u activate by clicking the hard fall detected screen and u will see another menu giving options when to send SOS as the default setting is only during exercise so u will need to switch it to ALWAYS

Thanks for watching my video and taking time to comment. Yes, the menus have changed since I made that video on the GW4 2.5 years ago.

It's a great video. I live alone and the reason I am buying the Galaxy 4 is this blessed COVID thing....the shots give me a bad time....last time I blacked out several times and was lucky to get to my phone and call the neighbour. Ok so these synptoms last 24 hours but it's no joke since I spent the night sitting in a chair because getting up gave me black outs.....the second jab I was fine but now I need the booster which is, again , causing bad reactions in people. Now I may take it and nothing happens but for the duration of that time I need that watch and a safety net in case I start to black out again especially for the day after the dose is administered.

Jennifer.. This is mission-critical work and you need a fail-safe system. I would not trust this with watch technology. I have listed some other choices in the video.

Since there seems no end in sight to this COVID thing and probably more boosters ahead, for me it's a good thing. Anyone can have a bad fall at home...even young people and if you are alone age doesn't really matter. Could be hours before someone finds you. so young or senior, if you are alone it's better to use this feature than not at all. For people who find tech a bit daunting I would suggest alternative methods.

The SOS feature where you press the home key 3 times is worth it even without fall detection. You can use it not just if you fall but if you have a medical emergency, someone is trying to break in, etc. There are times when you might not be able to talk such as around an abusive spouse or criminal activity and this lets you silently call for help.

Thanks for watching my video and taking time to comment. There are many uses for the emergency features on the Iphone. This video focuses on fall detection which I think is a bad choice for the elderly. Yesterday our community sent an ambulance, filre truck and paramedics up a mountain for another false sos signal. It is very difficult for small communities with limited resources.

@@TechforSenior I'm extremely fortunate in that my neighbor has also become a good friend and is former law enforcement. He's had a key to my house for a while so he is my emergency contact. I was concerned about false alarms when you mentioned using 911 as a contact number. Much better if possible to have a friend, neighbor or relative get the alert but I can see why some elderly with limited contacts would use 911, especially if they have issues that could leave them in a bad situation.

@@TechforSenior By safety and emergency place. You can go to (Detection hard falling), and when u click it in the middle. You get 3 options. Always or Activity or Training. Or its only by Galaxy 5, that i dont know, but i tried falling and it worked haha

@@privxete4089 Not something I would recommend for Seniors. As mentioned in the video the Galaxy and Apple watch detect different types of falls. Make sure you fall in accordance with the type of watch you have. There is a good reason Samsung doesn't advertise this feature.

I fell at work and broke my wrist. I was wearing a Garmin Vivomove with fall detection and it wasset up. It didn't detect it. I fell hard enough to have had to have surgery, so it definitely should have.

Thanks for watching my video and taking time to comment. I recently got a note from a 70 year old man who was hiking in the mountains and fell with serious injuries. His G4W fall detection didn't work so he was smart to be hiking with friends.

I appreciate the time it took to make this video and I thank you. Unfortunately, I have enabled the fall detection as you instructed, when I first got the watch, and it simply does not work. I have taken several hard falls, as the result of neurological issues, and the watch has not detected a single one. I wish I knew what to do to make it work. I have even set it to high sensitivity, and it still does not detect any falls. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thank you again.

Please watch my recommendations in the above video. It occurs @ 11:20. I agree with you and do not think the technology is reliable. Rather than fall detection I would recommend a device that has emergency notification after a fall. ADT has a number of these devices that can be worn around your neck or on the wrist.

In minute 11:00 you dont recommend buying for elderly fall detection 10 months ago. Today has this changed? Asking for an elderly of my family that lives alone and has us worried about fall or getting lost when out and about
@TechforSenior
@TechforSenior 2 жыл бұрын
Nothing has changed and I don't recommend using fall detection with a watch for the elderly. The technology is unreliable and too complicated. Look for emergency call devices like ADT has.

Im watching this because I was sleeping and my watch started to alert me that a fall was detected. In a confused daze I swiped the wrong button sending for help. Was hoping to get an answer why that happened when I wasn’t even moving. I wonder how many people this has helped.

Thanks for watching my video and taking time to comment. There are no clinical studies that show fall detection works and that is why Samsung and Google don't mention it in their marketing. Apple promotes it and gets anecdotal successes. I would not rely on that feature in a watch,

very good content, doc, but just a personal note: the "peer-reviewed randomized controlled trials" and "purely anecdotal evidence" lingo-spiel is a bit too-dr.fraudci-esque for a consumer smartwatch, perhaps even a bit off-putting if not directly reminiscent of the current brave-new-world scenario we have been plummeted into by those lunacrats. Lying with Statistics means observational and anecdotal is the way to go. cheers

The problem is people are buying these devices for vulnerable individuals to get help with a fall. This video explains why blind faith in what the company marketing describes is not always the best decision.

@@TechforSenior Thanks for this video. The question I had was, "What do these watches claim to do, and are there any peer-reviewed randomized, controlled trials to support those claims? Fall detectors, in smart watches or elsewhere, do not have to submit data to the FDA -- they merely have to say that they are "substantially equivalent" to existing devices. I was concerned about the following scenario: Several of my neighbors, in their 70s, 80s and 90s, fell in their apartment -- not because of a physical fall, but because of a stroke or heart attack which left them unable to call for help, dial a phone, or even realize the danger they were in. Someone found them hours later. After my research, I found no evidence that either the Apple or Samsung watch would help in that situation. The best research I've seen was from the National Council on the Aging, such as their two reports, "The 13 Best Medical Alert Systems in 2023" and "Apple Watch Medical Alert Review 2023", which were written by their subject expert, Kathleen Cameron. These reports included citations to engineering studies on, for example, the effectiveness of fall detection sensors in different body locations and conditions -- which varied from about 75% to 6%. The wrist is not the best location. I couldn't find any way to detect a stroke or heart attack with a "soft fall" that leaves the user unconscious. OTOH, if you make them too sensitive, there is a danger of false alarms flooding the 911 center. There should be a way to do it. When those wolves in Yellowstone Park stop moving, the radio transmitter on their collar sends a signal to the rangers.

@@norman_5623 No Peer Review and that is the problem. These are very poor devices for seniors because of the complexity. Simple wearable devices like ADT has that can be around your neck or even on your wrist. Just push the button and help comes with the batteries lasting up to a year. Amazon Echo devices are used extensively in aged care and at home. There are lots of options BUT not fall detection on smart watches. I recently got an email from a 70 year old German hiker who fell down the mountain and was rescued by his fellow hikers. His Apple Watch never did go off.
