Honestly the fold is one of the best phones I've ever owned. We just implemented Azure Virtual Desktops into my work environment and have totally just replaced my work laptop with my phone.

@MatthewMoniz it's too good 😆😆. It's such a great secondary device. The big screen does a lot, especially since I'm a student. Sometimes, using Big Chungus a.k.a Tab S9 Ultra isn't the best.

my windows laptop recently got hacked and i had to reformat it and i'm still recovering from it so i've been using dex a lot to do work and i gravitate towards it more often than evne my macbook i have for work lol. it's really an awesome thing that i wish wasn't only on Samsung.

I wish samsung would allow dex on the z fold display without requiring an external display. For example, you wanna use samsung dex on an airplane and you don't have access to an external display, you can't use samsung dex. The fold display itself is capable of doing samsung dex but for some odd reason samsung limits samsung dex by not allowing the z fold to use samsung dex from the phone own display since it's a portable tablet that folds and fits in your pocket.

It is strange Samsung DeX does not work directly on the Samsung Z Fold in the same way tablets work seamlessly with Samsung DeX on device.

When I had the Fold 4 I could plug right into my powered external monitor using the C to C connection and Dex popped up and it charged the phone, basically ran like a dream. I upgraded to the Fold 5 and it has lost the ability to do that. Best I can do is hub to Fold 5 C port and display port to display port. Then no charging on phone. And really it doesn't work well at all. Screen will glitch etc.. Also if I connect my S22 C to C it works great like the Fold 4. Dex launches simple one cable C - C connection. Any ideas?

Could you specify the cable that you connect. Did you use the thunderbolt 3 or 4 cable also? And the type c to displayport is also thunderbolt to work?

The hardware selected for this Dex setup seems extreme overkill and unnecessarily expensive. Why would you use a $350 gaming monitor when the device intended to be used with it cant use its most important features? You could easily buy a $100-$150 monitor and get most of the same experience. You picked a $130 Thunderbolt dock...the phone does not support Thunderbolt!!!! What a huge waste of money. Any $20 or less USB Type-C hub will function the exact same way for $100 less. Thunderbolt connections are USB Type-C. Not all USB Type-C comnections are Thunderbolt. Unless you specifically need Thunderbolt connectivity, there's absolutely no reason to pay extra for it. An Xbox? What does that have to do with it anything? To be honest, it kind of just feels like you picked some random products you wanted for your own personal use because Best Buy sponsored the video. I feel like it's kind of ridiculous to recommend these products to your audience because it might discourage people from using Dex because they'll think you need a $130 Thunderbolt hub.

I agree!!! I have a setup that doesn't cost nearly as much, and it works the same for DEX. A $20 wireless Bluetooth keyboard works just as well with a $10 Bluetooth mouse . Then all you need is a USB to HDMI cable and, of course, a monitor that you can get for cheap as well.

Nope. Any monitor with an HDMI, DP, of USB-C with video input port will work. If the monitor has PD via USB-C, you can charge your smartphone or tablet while using it. If you keep the device connected for long time periods, enable battery protection which limits maximum battery recharge to 85%.

Don't buy Samsung because of dex. It's does not support desktop monitors' resolution of 1920x1200 I.e. 16:10 scaling. It's only support it if you buy Samsung docking station.

Of course it's unnecessary and expensive! The point is you can essentially create any desk setup using nothing but a galaxy device and that alone is really cool. Old monitor and keyboard? No problem connect your phone and it's a desktop
