I need my wife to see this video....I only do what you do as a hobby. Relatives, a few friends, etc, and especially grandkids that can't keep a controller functioning for long. My wife keeps asking why I need all the spare phones, controller boards and a few laptop PCBs - "junk" is what she calls it. But when I need a part, I can usually find it in my junk pile. Great work, sir

Still satisfying to watch even if it was only a short one. I think this video should serve as proof that if you dont mess with a broken device, Alex will most likely be able to repair it no problems. I love seeing big boss, your kids and any other family or friends who drop in, it makes these videos very wholesome and enjoyable.

Using the RF Choke from the switch was genius! Fun fact, RF Chokes (filters) filter out Radio Frequencies so your device has a clean signal on that line (or lines). You see them in a circuit when there's sensitive data being passed from one device to another, or one Chip to another. Like in HDMI Video Circuits to USB Flash drives, and so much more!

Is that similar to how a capacitor smooths out a voltage line

In case you're trying to fix yourself and don't have a similar filter, use a jumper wire to connect one side with the other. Long term fix would be buy the filter, but to recover the data, it will work just fine.

I still cannot comprehend the scale you work in. Those components are incredibly tiny! Yet there's so much control here

They make nice external M2 USB enclosures that would benefit in testing if a repair works. Then you wouldn't have to install it into a laptop to test. Love your site, channel, and knowledge!
@redbaron68052 жыл бұрын
I was going to make the same suggestion. A M.2 dock would be a perfect way to test these without having to install them in a laptop.

It may appear short in video, but I see the laptop was dismantled in order to fully test the device. Great job.

If you look at the PCB, it's 4 filters, one for each pci-e lane. My guess is those were the traces for first pci-e lane, so you probably could have moved a filter from the right most pci-e lane to the first and then the drive would have worked using only one or two pci-e lanes, and of course at potentially reduced speed, but nevertheless it probably would work.

This might sound like a stupid question but would running a wire to bridge the gap of the filter also work?
@chihofung68602 жыл бұрын
Yes but not recommended. These filters are also fuses so if something has gone wrong with the supply, they sacrifice themselves (blew up) to prevent further damage.

Every other ssd that I saw online got all the pins on the same side. I've bought an enclosure for nvme pcie m.2 ssd but it couldn't find the drive, probably because of the back pins ... I saw in bios > storage > pci ssd - ( blank ) the size is not showing its blank there. In the name section only shows- pcie 3 ssd (not crucial) What is the reason?? I also tried in another port didn't worked also the nvme got super hot in 30 seconds like i am using it from hours. Also i tried to install new window it shows only 1mb size i dont know what's that

Sir my L412 ThinkPad is having issue of UUID and serial number invalid error , I purchased second hand MBD da0gc9mb8d0 rev d schematic, I cannot even load by pressing F12 for bootable pendrive , I only get prompt to choose temporary device but then it's redirects to bios page. It's just showing Press f1 for bios and then it loops and cannot boot to any medium and goes to bios page. I swapped the bios chip from fried board but still no success... Same issue. I just want to write the serial and UUID to EEPROM chip but the pinout differs from spi flash chip. U22 > holds the bios password U37 > holds the bios U.. I > PCH Pls guide me to this issue.
