A do have pity on you with us coming to you with similarly related problems. My one is a stretch at being similar though. I have a C550D and there is no audio coming out of the speakers or headphone jack. I feel like it's related to an earthing issue as the aux port earth has caused some electrocution when playing with it between my fingers. I was connecting the aux cable to the back of my motherboard. It touched my metal case and there was a change in the him. I touched the case again (this time on purpose) and the speakers definitely went dead. There was no static in them anymore. PC and PSU was off but the power cord was plugged in. I have already lost one motherboard audio jack to the HiFi system though. I've put a volt meter over the speaker pins. I do get a small voltage (200mV). With the HiFi system on. The moment I put a ground source in contact with the sound system body there is a slight arc, but no mark is left behind. Any suggestions?

Phew ... there are some things, I could say here, maybe some of them are helpful, maybe not^^ A PC (at least a regular Tower-PC) is always "mains earth referenced", meaning that it's GND is always connected to Mains Earth through the PSU, even if the PC and the PSU are switched off. This also means, that the PC case and everthing with a GND is also always connected to mains earth, like USB-Ports, Video-Ports and of course the Audio-Jacks. The C550D on the other side is floating, like every HiFi- or non-HiFi-amplifier should be. This should be clear, since it has no eath connector on the plug and thus no earth line going into the unit. This might change, as soon as you connect other things to the amplifier, like a TV over SCART or something. If the other device has a connection to mains earth, this could lead to a ground loop or other unwanted things. But the amplifier itself cannot have a mains earth connection, so it will always be floating potential. However, there are usually some small capacitors between the power-lines going into the amp and it's GND. This leads to a small AC-voltage on the GND of the unit in respect to mains earth. This is very common for all devices, that are not mains earth referenced. I assume, this is what you feel and what could have caused the small arc. I would say, this is normal. The voltage might be enough though to kill a sensitive, not well proteced audio out from a motherboard. There is a very old rule, that almost nobody remembers these days, which is: Always make you signal connections (i.e. AUX-Cable from PC to amplifier) BEFORE you power up the devices (/connect the devices to power). Maybe this could have saved your PC audio jack as well as the input of the amp in you case. Did you read the 200 mV in DC voltage mode? That feels a little high. Was a speaker connected? Otherwise the measurement is more or less pointless, since the amp has to load to work against. I would try the amp first with an isolated source like a mobile phone, to get rid of any possible grounding issues. Can you get sound out of it from any source (radio, CD, aux)? If just the AUX input does not work, you probably killed that, if no source is working, you maybe killed a part of the amplifier. In any case, it is something, that I can definetely not help you with, since it does not have anything to do with the issue I had, and would require heave investigation on the input singal processing.

@@NebukadV Wow! thank you so much for all this information. You have really guided my path of actions! I did not know about the making connections while devices are turned off. I will definitely be doing that from now on! To answer your questions though: 200mV DC was measured across the cables of one speaker, with volume set to 2. With regards to getting sound from any source: The first thing I did was test other sources. AUX, USB, DVD, FM, and mic in all do not produce sound out of headphone jack or speakers. The speakers also produce no static or "hum" that is always present on any sound system. Based on your previous information regarding capacitors: if the events are as you say and caused a voltage spike, then I think the capacitors are the first place for me to look. I do not recall arcing ever occurring as violent as it is now. So the capacitor could have failed closed, causing allowing current to be diverted away from the speakers. This is something I can still go and measure. I do not have any O-scope I could use. So if I cannot find anything from resistance or voltage probing then there is not much hope for me. I know just enough about electrical circuits to be dangerous. But not dangerous enough to kill me. Once again, thank you so much for your help and knowledge. All the best!

Hi, Last time I found that my unit mm c550D (subwoofer addition) doesn't work properly. The sound comes only from subwoofer speaker and it isn't clear. I Can hear from other speaker only some remnants of sound, very flat and silent like being somewhere in background. When standard spekaer connected to subwoofer socket a pretty good sound will be hard mainly in bass spectra. The sound from headphones is played without any problem. Do you have any suggestions on that problem? The unit has more less 10 years but has been using very rarely.

Hard to tell. You can open the unit and inspect is visually. If your problem is also caused by bad electrolytic capacitors, you should see some that are damaged (bulged tops, black leakage etc.). But apart from that, I cannot really help you here, sorry.

do you recommned to test the capacitors with a multimeter to identify which of them does not work properly?
@NebukadV
@NebukadV 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. If one of them is bad, which at this age is almost guaranteed, just go ahead an replace all electrolytics. They only const some cents each. Plus: If you really want to test capacitors, a regular multimeter is not enough. You gonna an LCR or at least ESR meter.

Hi this video is very informative. I have similar problem with my Samsung MM-DG25 DVD hifi. The front display doesn't light up. But I can play CD, USB and Aux input functioning and still can listen to music. What could be the issue?
@NebukadV
@NebukadV 4 жыл бұрын
That problem is not really similar to the one shown in the video. It could be, that the VFD (display) itself has gone bad, that the driver is broken or one of it's voltages is not present. Unfortunately, I don't think, I can help you with this issue from afar.

I have the MM-C430 model, the problem you have is that it does not play CDs 💿 and when I put Mute the fan turns off, the rest if it is read by the usb and the radio, what do you think the problem is?
@NebukadV
@NebukadV 4 жыл бұрын
The problem with the CD drive might be, that the Laser has a little bit of dust on it. You might be able to clean the lens, but I my experience, that does not always work. It might very well be, that the fan is supposed to turn off, when the unit is muted.

Hi, I have a Samsung MM-E330D and when I turn the system on after a minute, or 2, or maybe 10, come an "Prot off" message and turns off. I donk know what can be the problem, I opened it and there are 3 cards (there's no fan), and even just connecting the cards without speakers, that message comes. Maybe can you help me? Can I send you fotos from the inside? Thank your

The problem could be the same as in my video: Bad electrolytic capacitors. You would have to take all the boards out, desolder every electrolytic cap and get replacement ones. There is not really a way, how I can guide you through that repair, apart from this video. If you don't feel condifent enought do so somethink like this yourself, you will need to find someone, who is willing to do it for you.

Could be the capacitors for one channel failing, however not very likely in my opinion. If so, I would replace all capacitors, unless you want the unit to fail again in 2-3 months ;)

10:15 - you could have cleaned the rest of the lose solder pieces... Such a bad work can lead to shorts when the pieces left in there make contact. You seem to have some experience at least but did not expect that you really leave on solder pieces in the board.
