I own three 85inch QN900B Tvs and thought i would upgrade one of them to the QN900D. After messing around with the tv for 90mins at Best Buy i came to the conclusion that its basically the same tv as the QN900B. The AI upscaling in not much better so for anyone interested in this tv save your money and go with the much cheaper QN900B or QN900C

Yes, there are plenty of similarities between this model and the last couple years. When seeing last years side by side with this years, I really do see the difference with the quality of the AI upscaling, however if you’re not watching a lot of standard definition content to begin with, this feature may not matter all that much. Also, the way smooths out motion with some types of sports footage is better too. I do like how it makes the settings for you, especially in gaming mode, but I also don’t mind doing this myself. It’s a step up, but in ways that might not matter to some. Thanks so much for watching in your comment!

I have huge hopes for the next Sony 8K tv given how much of an improvement the X95L and Bravia 9 have been. It will be very expensive for awhile though since it will definitely launch at 10K and it might not even come out next year... .I bought the open Box QN900B for $3200 last year and don't regret the purchase for my gaming tv. This is obviously still the best option for anybody looking to buy an 8K TV right now for gaming without overpaying. Rtings rated the QN900B an 8.2 and QN900C an 8.2 basically confirming there was little improvement

I have the S95D in house for some time, I love the image quality, the matte screen, the design etc, but somehow I get eyestrain very quickly with this tv. I thought I would get used to it over time, but it seems to get even worse in my case. I think it has to do with the contrast, way it refreshes (slight dip in brightness), or handles motion. Never had any problems with my Samsung led tv in the past (KS8000). So thinking of transferring to this 900D or 900C, and leave the Oled game all together. How is the low light/dark room performance of this tv, as I have found some tv's, like the Sony X95L just too bright in a dark room (but believe that is much brighter), even at very low brightness settings etc.? Is it similar to S95D except for the blacks? Many thx.
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience with the S95D! Wow I can't say that I had any issues with eyestrain, when watching the S95D, but I've used the S95C for much longer and it's been great to watch. I wonder if there's just something about how it manages colour/brightness/contrast that your eyes are sensitive to? I don't think there are many fundamental changes with the panels between the S95D and S95C other than the matte finish, and its brightness is about 20% higher if I remember correctly. Perhaps it's just too bright now?

I was going to get the QN900D at 85". But Im suprised that the Z9K with less local dimming zones can produce a better picture still, Sonys algorithim with the Backlight Master Drive is really something. So Iwent ahead and got the Sony instead.
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 3 ай бұрын
Sony really does have some great technology, its colour science is the best in the industry. Backlight zone numbers can vary depending on the size of the panel too, so there will be less on a 65 inch screen compared to an 85 inch, for example. But you are correct that the zones need to be managed well to be very effective. The Q 900 D looked quite good during the time I had with it, I didn’t see any obvious issues with blooming or light streaking. Thanks for letting us know about the Sony ZK9.

Should have really just waited for the next Sony 8K TV even if it takes another couple years... the Z9K cannot even produce a 8K native picture.. It literally produces a 5k image and upscales it to 8K when playing pc games and watching 8K videos

Does the 8k ai upscaling still work if you connect the tv to a ps5 or pc and will the upscaling work if you have game mode turn on? Will it also upscale your games too?
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech Ай бұрын
That's a very good question! It will up-res 4K video signals, so I assume this includes games unless it's specifically leaving Game Mode content out. To be honest, I couldn't say that the video quality looked '8K' in my gaming experience with it, so I think that what Samsung is saying is that your videos won't look 'worse' when upscaled to 8K like older generation TVs that introduced artifacts in the upscaling process. And with AI, some content looks even better, but I doubt that the AI has been trained for gaming content. Will see if I can find out more but that's an excellent question!

What does adaptive sound pro do?
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Adaptive sound pro is actually pretty cool. It’s an AI technology that optimises the sound based on the characteristics of your room as well as the audio itself. It remasters the sound in real time to highlight things like voices or effects to ensure that they’re balanced. Hope this helps!

@@gadgetguytech thanks but i need to know more, so what’s the difference between adaptive sound pro and adaptive sound+ and active voice amplifier and active voice amplifier pro which ones would be louder for Bluetooth?
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 3 ай бұрын
@@ExclusiveMembersClub OK I see what you mean - it can be confusing with all of the different audio technologies, and some are only supported on certain models. Will do my best. First off, which type of sound enhancement is available will depend on the TV's processor. The one in the QN900D - the NQ8 Gen3 - is the most powerful, so it can offer more advanced audio processing. Adaptive Sound Pro is essentially about remastering the sound depending on the enviroment your TV is in. So it senses the room acoustics, as well as ambient noise, then rebalances the sound - this can also vary depending on what you're listening to. It uses AI to do so. Adaptive Sound+ is a lesser version of this, running on a TV with a slower chip. I imagine it doesn't rely on machine learning (AI) for this. Next, there's Voice Amplifier Pro, which works in tandem with Adaptive Sound Pro. It also uses Machine learning (AI) to analyze the audio you are listening to, specifically to identify and separate vocal tracks from mixed audio (music, SFX, etc) and enhance audio so you don't miss a word. In the context of Bluetooth, were you asking about a bluetooth external speaker connection, and which would be louder? These don't really have any impact on the volume, but rather the quality of the sound you are listening to - they rebalance the sound. With an external BT speaker, the Adaptive Sound Pro enhancements might not be as noticeable as if using the internal speakers + a Samsung soundbar with Q-symphony also in operation.

@@gadgetguytech oh so if it separates sound from vocals doesn’t it become less loud than adjusting every frequency of sound all in one ?

This is not an unbiased review. This is a commercial. He mentions a whole day of testing. What did you test? What are the test results? When comparing to OLED, he only mentions Samsung's own OLED TV and links to his "review" of that TV. It's as if no other TV manufacturer exists. He doesn't say whether or not Samsung compensated him for the review, but journalistic integrity (he has none) requires him to mention that Samsung has paid him for this promotion. I'd steer clear from following what this guy has to say.
@gadgetguytech
@gadgetguytech 2 ай бұрын
Appreciate your comment and acknowledge that I could have been more clear in the video. There has been no consideration from Samsung or any company for this video. This is actually not a “review” but a product “show and tell” - which is my first impressions as we only had it for a day. I did not at any point use the word ‘review’. If it were a full review (of which we do on GadgetGuy.com.au), there would be a rating and more comparative tests. Still, I would have liked to have shown more footage of the test results (consisting of different content and tests that highlights things like upscaling, blooming, streaking, tearing, low light colour volume, pixel response, etc.) See DisplayMate (www.displaymate.com), which is what we use as part of our test suite. However, this particular TV changes its scan rate often, and this interferes with our camera, so a lot of the footage we shot of the TV was flickering, and I didn’t think this was a good representation for the audience to draw quality comparisons from. I would also very much like to do similar videos from Hisense, TCL, LG, etc., so watch this space as we have more of them coming in, including the 110in from Hisense hopefully. As I’m based in Australia, some TVs do not land here as early as they do in the US. Anyway, thanks for watching and I appreciate your comment. Check out GadgetGuy.com.au for reviews on many of the brands I mentioned, as making a video takes quite a bit of effort.

This is the best tv for gaming according to people who have tried the Bravia 9 and this tv. It has a better looking game mode, plus 4k 240hz and 8K native compatible. Easy win. The QN900D is also capable of displaying more highlights in HDR and trades blows with the Bravia 9 in HDR movies. The QN900D has more blooming though and the Bravia 9 probably wins overall for movie watching. I personally would want the QN900D over the Bravia 9... it's more expensive, it should be overall better

Hi and thanks so much for your question. The soundbar in this video was the Samsung HW-Q990D Q-series soundbar. I didn’t have enough time to include it in the video, but it seemed like a great paring with the Q990D 8K QLED TV. This is mostly because of Q-Symphony as well as the ability to transmit Dolby Atoms wirelessly without any noticeable degradation of quality. I don’t love using wires when I can avoid them, and Q-Symphony uses the TV’s speakers in conjunction with the 11.1.4 channel soundbar. Compared to the excellent Sonos Arc, which I quite like, this mutes the TV’s speakers so I like knowing that they are still being used to contribute to the overall sound.

@@OctZ2001 Modern high end TVs dont need Dolby Vision. All it is, is an algorithm that guides how TVs display colours in content that was mastered at higher NITs than the TV is capable of producing. So if content was mastered at 1000 nits, but a TVs only capable of producing 800 nits, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ guide the TV in approximating the look of the original material. But with modern TVs generally capable of a brightness level that matches the NITs level that most movie and TV producers master their content at, TVs dont actually need Dolby Vision. Its helpful for lower end TVs, but once youre purchasing at the mid and high end its redundant. Dont get caught up in the hype. StoptheFomo did a great video on it.

@@gadgetguytech Hi, I couldn't watch the full video due to the loud background music, which I'm very sensitive to. The refresh rates mentioned are according to the Samsung website. For instance, the QN800D can only do 8K at 60Hz, but it can only do 4K at 165Hz. I was looking for my next upgrade from 120Hz to double the refresh rate on 4K for PC use. The QN900D is currently the only option for achieving this, as it is the only one that can do 4K at a higher refresh rate outside of the monitor world.

Yeah, no doubt it’s pretty expensive. The prices I use are Samsung’s recommended retail prices, so it will definitely be cheaper in retail, especially as stores compete against each other. Also, as the year goes by, retailers definitely drop their prices. The good thing is that there’s not a huge difference between this model and some of the mid-range TVs, so you can get a lot of bang for your buck by going for something like an 8 series Samsung TV.

Really appreciate the feedback. Would have shown the TV much more but we had lots of issues with the screen strobing. The Q900D changes frequency dynamically and it really messes up our camera which is set to 50hz. As we only had a limited time with the TV we couldn’t adjust for each shot so when it came to usable footage we had less than expected. A boring explanation I know, and would have otherwise shown much more of the TV than me! Next video is on the 98in Q80D and that has more b-roll or the TV.
