Samsung QN90A eARC & Dolby Atmos Setup with Denon AVR-X6700H

Samsung QN90A firmware update 1903.0 released 12 January 2022 enables Dolby Atmos on both Amazon Prime and Disney+. Cannot confirm Netflix, as I do not have the upgraded package as explained in this video. I am outputting from the TV's HDMI 3 eARC direct to the HDMI eARC port on my Denon AVR-X4500H. I know this is an older video, but want to update the information.

Hi. Can I ask, does your TV stay on AVR speakers when you switch the TV off then back on again? For example: you switch the TV off, (TV turns off and avr turns off via cec). Then when you turn the TV back on, Avr also turns on, and sound is automatically coming from avr speakers? I read some people having problems with it switching back to TV speakers everytime, and I'm worried now as I have just ordered one. Thanks in advance.

I ended up buying the Denon X4700H to replace my older Denon THX AVR and it’s the worst thing I’ve ever done.Every time I turn this thing on something different happens.I’ve had home cinemas Many different AVRs and this one is driving me mad.I turn it on and the Apple TV comes on and my 4K BluRay also comes on.Sometimes I get Dolby Atmos some times Other sound formats and sometimes not.It’s an absolute nightmare.I just watched a video of a guy who’s having the same problems.70 comments of people that are experiencing the same switching conflicts. I suggest you live with this Denon for a few weeks and see how you feel.I never had these problems with my older more powerful THX Denon.These recent models are a load of junk.

I’m not sure why, but the QN90b but if you have HDMI-eARC turned on my Marantz will not pick up Dolby Atmos… I turn HDMI-eARC off and have Digital Output Format selected to Auto Dolby Atmos works on the Marantz. Just thought I’d share. Furthermore If I have HDMI-eARC on, the Digital Output Format to Passthrough is disabled. Both TV and Marantz is at the latest update of this post.

The way I do my streaming is plug Firestick into my receiver and not use my tv (75qn90b ) as a source only a monitor and it works great

Hey Techno, love the channel…. What is up with the 85 inch QN85A Neo Qled Samsung 2021 4K tv? It’s a VA PANEL with 1320 Dimming Zones and is getting 5 Star customer reviews left and right! Is there a special sauce inside this Expensive Neo Qled? The people are speaking and loving this SPECIFIC 4K Tv… I’m guessing it’s not just for Gamers in 2021!!!

I have a 55QN90A TV and a HW-Q800B soundbar. As you can see in the picture, it says that it can play TrueHD 7.1 audio, but when I try to watch a movie on hdd in this audio format, I get an error that the audio does not support it. The picture says that TrueHD 7.1 can transfer the sound to the soundbar losslessly even if the TV does not support it. How can I solve this problem

Have you noticed / heard about issues with Denon AVRs and Samsung new TVs like Q95T with gettin 4k@120hz working? I'm currently having this issue with Denon X1700H + Q95T. I've read that Samsung firmware update broke it.. Don't know if somekind of HDMI spliter / decoder / emulator would fix the issue.. Connecting source directly to TV works fine 4k@120hz..

Okay, One more question. This is my EXACT setup right now (well still waiting on the receiver to arrive tomorrow). If I want to connect my Xbox series X to my TV first and then to my receiver how would I do this? Xbox X --> QN90A HDMI input 4 (gaming input) ; then use HDMI port 3 eARC --> Denon X6700H Monitor 1 eARC port? Would that be the correct setup? I've been trying to confirm this for awhile now. I know Denon will provide me (free of charge due to the HDMI 2.1 issues) the HDMI switch so that I can run Xbox X-->HDMI Switch--> 8K input on X6700H-- eARC out --> QN90A but I'm trying to find a workaround in the meantime. Hello Techno Dad. Do you get Dolby digital 5.1 sound on Netflix on this tv? I have the same one and I get Dolby surround or Dolby Atmos on Netflix but no 5.1. I'm using Yamaha R-XA2080 receiver.

Have a pioneer vsx-lx503 And just bought a 65 inch A80j Earc to recever and ps4 pro to the other 2.1 port I've also run it to the back of the recever and only get ext-stero or have no main voice other sounds is ther but the actors speaking in frame are silent

I may have missed it. How are the TV and receiver connected? I assume via the eARC out on the back of the receiver and the eARC input on the TV? Can you confirm this?

Great vid tecno dad, I have a QN 90 tv with earc and Onkyo 787 with arc, is there anyway I can pass lossless audio to my receiver? I tried using the Orei audio extractor but did not work. I’m not trying to buy a new receiver either looking for a solution any ideas feedback would be greatly appreciated.

SVS Prime Elevations for heights so you dont have to put holes in ceilings and those work better if you want to do Auro3D since they are on the wall on in ceiling

I’m wanting to get a new tv. Sound bar. Apple TV. If I wanna use the ARC or eArc how should I hook it up? I want all The sound to be able to come through the sound bar if I want it too. Should I plus the Apple TV into the sound bar then to the tv? Or can I plus in the apple thing into the tv then run an hdmi arc to arc from tv to sound bar?

I have a denon avr x3400h On denons website they give 2 specs at 8 ohms 105 wpc @ .08% and 125 wpc @ .05% How do I know which is correct? I’m running this as a 5.2.2 set up Also using a emotive xpa-3 for my front stage R-26f floor speakers qty. 2 R-34c center Reference satellite surround speakers qty. 4 Sw12 powered subs qty. 2 Thanks

If I have a xpa-3 powering my front stage does my denon Av received no longer contribute to the power those speakers receive? Does this in any way free up any more wpc to the remaining speakers only being powered by my receiver? Thanks

So I had something weird happen. My sound went out completely when connected earc to earc. Reset everything, same issue. I decided to run the hdmi to port 1 which is non arc. I immediately saw dolby atmos enabled with a message saying this is a non arc port please use port 3. Once I disconnected from port 1 and put in port 3. I get dolby atmos sound. Is that normal to do? For whatever reason when plugging my s960h to my qn85a to the earc port. I got nada.it only worked when I switched ports and then back to port 3 does it work.

How about using regular ARC? I'm using my PC on my new QN90A and I have the computer connected to the TV via HDMI4 so I can use VRR. When I test the sound setup in windows all i get is front left, center and front right. No surrounds or sub. When I go into my AVR and test the speakers they are all working but for some reason it seems like the TV is not passing all the audio properly. I have tried this on digital output format PCM or AUTO in the settings but no surround or subs. It plays the surrounds though the FR and FL when I test SR and SL. Is it that regular ARC won't pass this through properly and I have to have an eARC AVR to get it to use surround properly? It works perfectly if I hook to the AVR first from the computer and then to the new TV, but then I cant get the benefits of HDMI4 on this tv. Thanks

As long as your using an external device, then pass-through is what you'll need to have on.

@@TechnoDad based on your test when you selected Disney plus or Netflix on the TV app that you couldn’t get the Atmos-True HD, so if you ran it through an external device like Apple TV you could get Atmos-True HD

Nice! It's not the only one I use, I have the Sony X800M2, Panasonic UB420, and the UBK90 in my testing room. I use the Oppo UDP-203 in my main, living room setup. The UBK90 was pretty solid with a few minor quirks.

So does my one remote then work in terms of controlling my satelite box through the marantz reciver ane can the one remote switch inputs aswell or just volume on and off? Yes! HDMI 4 is the gaming port and HDMI 3 is the designated eARC port.

Depends on the receiver? The source (game or movie how is mixed)? At one point they had the ability to disable height channels in the dolby atmos app but now they removed it. My guess is that it gets the height channels then ignores it with my current setup then just applies the object based sound to the speakers that are active in my normal 7.1?

I just had my Samsung QN90A update notification. I can confirm that Disney+ app on the TV is now playing Dolby Atmos. (Samsumg QN90A eARC to Denon AVR-X4500H eARC port). Sadly, no HULU or Netflix Dolby Atmos. Also, this is not True-HD. Edit: Confirmed Amazon Prime shows play Dolby Atmos as well.
