Thanks for this, I got the part for £35. Saved me £500 on a new machine. As others have said putting the door seal back on is an absolute pig and I agree. I ended up laying machine on its back so I could access the top and bottom and also removed the concrete blocks so I could get my hands every where. Blocks are able to be put back on after seal is installed. Thanks again 👍

Thanks Richie, glad you succeeded and you got your part even cheaper too. Yes it’s easier to fit the Door Seal to the Tub first, then the Concrete weights. Well done 👏.

Before obvious failure were you getting bits of aluminum in the filter element? I was. Little chunks, dark in color, almost black and 1/8 to 1/16 inch in size. Machine was bought used and I wonder if they knew what was coming... If this is common it's a good symptom to look for as there was no clunking or banging at that time just bad water draining due to a clogged filter. Has anyone else seen this?

Thanks so much for the video, have managed to fix my machine for a total of £49 for the replacement spider arm and £15.95 for the bolts [off Ebay] as had to get new ones. A repair guy had even told to throw the machine away imagine!!! Putting it back the rubber seal was a bit tricky, ended up having to take it off the door side, and an extra pair of hands helps to put it back easily.

Thanks for this mate, Have stripped my machine, not the same model but similar and have now removed and ordered a new spider and bolts as I snapped two, even though I used a heat gun on them to loosen the threadlock.. I thought it best to order genuine ones as they'll be Stainless I expect. Good tip on the grease thank you, I was thinking that I'd put some on and also for pointing out the oring and little ring that remained on the old shaft once removed... Good luck and thanks again..

Hi, great video. I have just had a repair guy out who wobbled the drum and gave it a spin. He instantly said it required both a new tub and drum. The tub and drum for my machine are no longer available. I understand it’s likely just the spider and bearing/seal that needs replacing? Are they suggesting full drum and tub replacement as it’s easier/less labour intensive?
@green-crocs-fixes1520

Hi Xander, obviously easier to fit a whole unit than messing about with Spiders and Bearings + I think they have to repair so many per day. If its a warranty repair then I would imagine full tub repair however if you where paying for the repair the the long ways labour would burn a hole in most peoples pockets.

Hi Akac0, How Long.....? No idea. This is a 2012 machine so it lasted well, overloading the machine with washing and regular use will also impact the Spider's life span I would imagine. The Spider I'm using here is non genuine unit as a Samsung part is a lot more expensive, I think most are Aluminium or Alloy and I have seen Plastic, this one has less 'nooks & crannies' for soap and fluff to erode. @@green-crocs-fixes1520 Abuse of liquid detergents and fabric softeners, combined with excessive use of low temperatures and short washing programs, accelerates bearing and spider failure more than overloads and unbalanced spins. Wash at higher temperatures, using standard cycles instead of short ones and with powder detergents where possible. Also, you can use citric acid properly diluted in water instead of fabric softener. You can also use it to clean the machine periodically (every two or three months), pouring 150-200 gr. in it and running the highest temperature cycle without prewash, generally Cottons 90 °C. The machine must be EMPTY. P.S. You didn't replace the bearings and the related seal... Huge mistake, especially because you cleaned the tub and spilled water and detergent in them. They didn't cost much, replacing a spider using old bearings and seal is like changing the oil in a car without installing a new filter! The shocks were replaced as well so bad shocks will break the spider sooner. Spider was just as corroded as you see in this video.

It's just barely 10 years old and we've always kept the door ajar to let it dry out between washes. It's a waste really because the other parts are perfectly fine but it's not worth the cost and time to repair.

@@JonnyFlash80 I here you Jonny, and I think some manufacturers do offer 10 year warrantee, how and if that is honoured when the time comes is another thing. You can get a new Spider for about £50 - £80 if you shop around and if you're up for it. I think overloading the machine also contributes to the unit failing.

I think the design has to change. The problem is that the torque has to be distrubuted uniformly to the inner drum and hence the spider unit. The next problem is that the spider unit will always remain exposed to the highly corrosive water. Alternatively the inner drum has to be super strong and super expensive which wouldnt make sense. So one solution is only to make the spider unit as anti corrosive as possible which would be expensive or the make the drum as a rotor in a contactless motor similar to a aquarium water filter motor. There should be some other way also. But currenly its pathetic.

@@user-hv9xy1xl5w Thanks Binil, I’m sure considering all manufacturers use the same method that an alternative would be more expensive. I would imagine a Stainless Steel spider would be ideal, same material as the Drum but being as I am not a Washing Machine engineer the unit would have to cope with a lot of stress. I think these Spiders fail due to the machine being overloaded constantly.

The manufacturer must have or should have known the material they used is NOT suitable to make the spider, which is constantly exposed to wash water.

I hear you Saigonais, but some failures are caused by the user, overloading the machines constantly. Alloy and Aluminium or a combination of is ideal. Plastics probably would not have the strengths. Regards.

@@green-crocs-fixes1520 Your reply is much appreciated. Agreed, overloading is likely cause of "breaking apart in flight", aided by galvanic corrosion already weakened the cast aluminum spider. An alloy like that of car wheels or ss316 would do albeit expensive. Thanks.

It was the outer drum tub! And we removed it! We were doing it upside down, but I told my husband to do as you did on the video and worked, turns out the bearings broke down and we ordered to replace it! Thank you so so much, great video! God bless you ❤️ You save us to buy a new machine bc we were told by our neighbor that came here to give an estimate, that the cost to fix would be more than half of the cost of a new one. No, we will do it for cheap, thanks to YOU! Again, thank you so much, love from Texas ❤️

It's caused by using two different metals in the presence of an electrolyte, soap & water. Stainless steel for the drum and whatever alloy for the spindle. Doesn't matter what detergent you use, due to the really bad design the spindle will corrode.

@@green-crocs-fixes1520 I have seen two Samsung washers go bad (Spindle/Spider) in three years. Cost of repairs/part is half price of washer. Sumsang puts a big sign on front 10 years warranty. But that is just motor. They very well know the spindle/spider rusts and goes bad right after warranty expires in 3 years. Growing up I have used washers (front loading) e.g Hoover last for 20 years. Now I understand that things have changed. But for a washer to go bad in the 3 years is Absolutely Unacceptable. It's my mission to post as many posts I can and to let people know, it's NOT shipping Bolts. If you Buy a Samsung Washer for $1200. Expect to dish out $600 repairs soon after warranty expires in 3 years. The thing Rusts inside and it's a Major Job. Samsung are you reading this? I have a dancing washer. My second one. I fixed first one. Now I have bought another house with same Samsung Washer with rusted Spindle. Contact me if you want me to Shut Up. Or keep losing your sales. Cause I WILL keep posting NOT to Buy Samsung Garbage Washer. Green-Crocs-Fixes. Or course you will say it's a good brand. You make money repairing. Your Move. Say you what?

@@frankie3591 search for James fixit and shaky spider. Guy there with a Samsung too. Except instead of 3 years his lasted 13. So tell me how do you use your machine? What detergent you use and how much. How many hot washes a month. Maintenance washes how many times a year. Do you leave the door open after every wash.

Is this where all the “sand” and dark “rocks” came from that appeared on the outside bottom of my Samsung washer? Just chipped off and grinded dust from the spider? Looks like it’s made from zinc or aluminum. Why do they make such an essential part out of such a weak material? To ensure you have to buy another one?

Hi Dark Horse, I think they use some form of Aluminium / Alloy as this has to withstand hot water and soap. A Stainless Steel Spider would cost too much to manufacture I would imagine. Regards.
