I still recommend getting a case for yours, I've been using my S9+ for 3 years without a case, as the phone has been advertised as pretty durable, most drops would only cause very minor damage if any at all, but throughout the past 3 years they really have added up and now every corner of my phone except for the bottom left corner is heavily damaged and cracked, the two top corners of the phone are pretty much completely missing glass. For about a month now, the top fourth of my screen has stopped responding to touch, so I have to turn my phone on its side in an app that supports horizontal orientation to read my notifications. The bottom fourth of my screen occasionally becomes unresponsive at times as well which can mess up typing. Considering how much it's been dropped, I'd say it's pretty impressive that most of the damage is contained to the outside edges and corners of the screen, but that being said, it is still a considerably greater pain in the ass to use than the galaxy phone I had before this one at 3 years of use which didn't have any damage since I had a case on it.

I go to dialysis three times a week, and I started using my Fold 3 phone this past weekend, with my first dialysis session earlier today. Other than difficulty favoriting and replying to tweets (it's difficult to do it with one hand using the inside display) and using a swiping gesture to type things (even pecking at it with my thumb is difficult with the case I'm using) I won't go back to a regular smartphone. The battery life measurement is something I also need to do testing with, since I'm still in the "honeymoon" phase of the phone and I'm using the phone more often. I hope this phone will last two years, like how my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus phone lasted that long.

@Cooe.10 ай бұрын
While the Galaxy Fold/Flip 3 was the first generation of foldables I would have actually recommended to most normal people, the durability still wasn't quuuuuite there for a guaranteed usage period of a couple years without user caused accidental damage (i.e. dropping the phone, etc...). 🤷 The 2nd Gen UTG it used WAS stronger than the first (aka what's on the Flip/5G & Fold 2, which shattered if you even just looked at it funny!), with much better + stronger PET plastic protective & screen protector layers on top of it, but it still just wasn't quuuuuuite where it needed to be yet. Still too many spontaneous phone crackings right down the fold line from seemingly nothing but normal use. IMO foldable durability didn't get REALLY READY for "mainstream normies" primetime until the 3rd Gen UTG glass on the Fold/Flip 4, and it didn't become mostly a total non-issue until this very latest generation of UTG/foldables ala the Fold/Flip 5.

Most people who have a note hardly use the pen, and when they do, they struggle _because the lack of screen area._ the spen on the tab s7+ is fricken amazing, because of the screen size. the fold doesn't replace the note bc they're in different lanes. the note is for... well notes. the fold with the spen is for someone who wants to do more than that.

Getting two years of heavy use out of a 1st Gen UTG foldable (ala Flip/5G & Fold 2) is actually really, REALLY good!!! Most of those phones would shatter down the fold line if you even just looked at them funny. 🤷 And while the 2nd Gen UTG + the much stronger PET plastic layers on top of it with the Fold/Flip 3 was a major step in the right direction (& the first generation I could comfortably start recommending to actual people), UTG foldables didn't get reeeeally ready for "mainstream normie primetime" until the 3rd Gen w/ the Fold/Flip 4, and didn't become basically a "total non-issue" until this very latest 4th Gen UTG folding glass seen on the Fold /Flip 5 & OnePlus Open.

I'll never go back to another phone after having the z fold 3. Maybe I'll upgrade to another generation down the line. It's amazing.
@JungRich3132 жыл бұрын
@Eleanor Murgatroy well, for me, I was able to trade my previous phone in for it and get about 600 off of that price. Samsung also had a ton of incentives like upgraded memory for free, extra money for your previous phone, etc. I also was in the market for a new phone so the timing was right. After everything was said and done, I only owed about 1000. Otherwise it would be hard to spend anymore than that just cash on a phone especially if you're living below your means. As for the phone itself, I like to experience most of my media through my phone. So the bigger screen is amazing for that. Watching Netflix or anime, whatever you want is better on this phone. People say the battery is lacking but I find my phone lasts me awhile. At the end of a day, I'll still have about 40-70% battery. The camera quality is amazing. It doesn't have enough zoom to compete with any other smart phone, but the quality of the photos are the best ive ever had. I have an expensive case over the phone and I would recommend leaving between 40-100$ to spend on one after you buy one. My phones camera currently doesn't work. No one knows why it doesn't work, UBreakIFix tried a few software things to fix it but that didn't work and now I have to send it into Samsung for a repair. The guy that works there told me a lot of these fold phones have dead pixels where the crease is that develop or things breaking. But from my experience, the phone seems very sturdy with no dead pixels and the hinge/crease folds as strongly as the day I got it. All said and done, I would recommend the phone if you can get around 300 for your old one through a trade in or if you have the excess funds to do it. It seems if you're mindful about the phone and take care of it, you shouldn't have any problems and it will totally change your experience with a smartphone, for the better. It's hard to look back.
@JungRich3132 жыл бұрын
@Eleanor Murgatroy you're welcome. I would recommend buying an untethered z fold 3 through Samsung directly and avoid any contract obligations. Yeah if you watch movies primarily on your phone then it'll be a nice upgrade. People even use that pen with it and you can draw or take notes for class. Gotta take care of yourself first before anyone else will, truth.
@JungRich3132 жыл бұрын
Update, so I've been scared by a ubreakifix guy. They wouldn't touch my z fold 3 phone to attempt a camera repair under warranty. I have to send it in to Samsung and it's looking like I may have to come out of pocket even though it's under warranty. The warranty samsung sells for it has a 250 dollar deductible paid before they fix anything wrong with it and the policy costs 350 dollars to begin with. So I'd have to come out of pocket 600 dollars. Hopefully they'll fix my phone under warranty but from what I've heard from the ubreakifix guy, they are tough about anything they warranty. If there's any hint of accidental damage I hear they won't honor their manufactures warranty. The phone is very expensive at almost double or triple the rate of repair in comparison to non folding phones. I'm going to call Samsung and just see if I can trade my z fold in for a s22 ultra. The z fold technology is amazing and it's good now but it feels like an expensive hot potato that would be screwed if anything goes wrong. I'm going to hold off on getting one again for atleast a few years/few more generations.

Not to try and be the bearer of bad news, but a built-in/dockable S Pen on the Galaxy Fold will remain technologically impossible for the foreseeable future (next ≈3-4 years at a minimum). There's simply just not enough room to "waste" that much space on a relatively niche feature in such a hugely confined form factor (foldables are UNBELIEVABLY THIN when unfolded), so if that's what you are waiting on then you should really just give it up on already and get yourself a S2# Ultra. 🤷 The best we will get in the near-mid future is more portable S Pens that fit into less bulky Fold specific pen cases as we've seen w/ Fold 4 & ESPECIALLY 5.

IMO the ≈25:9/≈24.5:9 Fold 2/3 respectively cover screen's were still just a biiiiiit too cramped for stuff like typing or correctly rendering certain app layouts. 🤷 That said, the ≈+3-4mm wider & ≈-1.5mm shorter ≈23:9 Fold 4/5 otoh are basically PERFECT for one-handed foldable use though IMO! I personally think the "full-size front screen" tablet style foldables like the OnePlus Open have lost the plot completely. They're SIGNIFICANTLY harder to use one-handed while BOTH folded AND unfolded, AND it makes the interior tablet display basically a fucking SQUARE that's DOGSHIT for watching widescreen media in landscape and scrolling through modern vertical app feeds in portrait!

Another important reason this isn't a replacement for the Note, the S-Pen ONLY works on the internal screen. A big thing people used the Note for was quickly taking notes on the always-on screen without turning it on, it's way more effort now to make a quick note now since you have to open the device to even take a note.

But just like with the crease, when looked at head on and focusing on the actual content it mostly just disappears. 🤷 And for stuff like media watching, the move to an UDC on the primary tablet display, even in rough 1st Gen form ala Fold 3's; was an absolutely FUCKING MASSIVE improvement over a big ol' black hole punch being taken out of your content!!! Not to mention that the +50% higher pixel density 2nd Gen UDC on the Fold 4/5 instantly fixed most of the 1st Gen UDC's biggest pain points with visibility (although actual camera quality stayed basically unchanged), with it being MUCH less distracting & shimmering/moire effect inducing in those worst situations like on bright white screens, and being PRACTICALLY INVISIBLE on darker, more complex backgrounds!

Yeah, I use G-Board for swyping and I love it! The biggest hangups for me are the camera quality, not so much on the selfie camera, but on the back cameras. The loss in battery power, the possible effect dust will have on the hinge in the future, the obvious dark spot in the middle of the big screen and the fact that the SPen doesn't fit inside the phone somewhere. They do sell a case that holds the pen, but I am not a fan of the flip case, so I don't want that either. If that comes with the fold 4 ill be upgrading again here next year
@Cooe.2 жыл бұрын
Because it has a wider cover display, the Mate X2's inter display is basically square and thus dogshit for watching any widescreen media on though. 🤷 (Aka basically HALF the screen is wasted to black bars for 16:9 & even WORSE for wider stuff like many movies). That's a trade-off that I would rather Samsung avoid honestly. The Fold 4 is as wide as I would ever want them to go.

Yeah, I know there will be tradeoffs - and it's good to hear those downsides confirmed so I know what to expect - but all things considered, I'm super excited to get my hands on this phone.

If the spen was built in it would kill the battery life even more.

@@hyunxzseu Yeah, I agree, but that wasn't my point. Having the S pen built in like on the Note wasn't what I was talking about, I just meant the device having inbuilt support. The fact that the Fold 3 has this support is great news for me, I don't really care that much that I can't store the S pen inside the phone.

The Z fold they are teasing is more interesting for the real tablet size when unfolded but is that a year away or sooner. It will be interesting to see what google pixel fold ends up being if that really is coming this year.

As a first generation product there is no way they'll be able to make it as polished as the fold 3

So I purchased the Z fold 3 just under a year ago, last week it developed the "Black line of Death". Why isn't there more discussion about this which is a massive design flaw in this model which should be highlighted resulting in a recall? On purchase the instructions and guidance state not to remove the inner screen protector BUT over time the material used becomes brittle and starts damaging the inner screen when pressed resulting in bubbling and eventual screen damage. The inner right-hand screen then ceases to respond to touch. This is a known issue that isn't but should be discussed and highlighted to protect potential buyers.

... You took off the screen protector and never replaced it didn't you? The VAST majority of Fold/Flip 3's that shattered down the fold line without accidental user damage (like dropping your phone) were from people that removed the top layer PET plastic screen protector after it started to become unstuck and never got it replaced. And the screen protector itself could never damage the display... 🤦 Yes Fold/Flip 3's had a problem with the protector's adhesive coming unstuck, but that couldn't POSSIBLY damage the phone if replaced in a reasonably prompt manner when that began to happen. But deciding to just ignore it and continue to use an obviously faulty screen protector is fucking idiotic. Either just take it off entirely and deal with the consequences or do the non-idiot thing and replace it (either by Samsung or by yourself). This is a MASSIVE reason why Samsung paid so much attention to the screen protector's adhesive with the Fold/Flip 4. It's a very important part of foldable phone durability. 🤷 (Along with further improving the strength of the UTG glass & plastic protective layers as they do every generation). As tempting as it can be to just rock a UTG foldable display as naked as possible for that prime, most glass-like finger feel (from having only 1x PET plastic layer on top of the UTG vs the normal 2x) or to just not have to deal with replacing a damaged/faulty screen protector, you're SERIOUSLY playing with fucking fire if you do so... 🤷

If you do replace the screen protector promptly when/if ever needed though, the latest generations of foldables (at least Fold/Flip 4 onwards & ESPECIALLY this latest gen ala Fold/Flip 5/1+ Open) are VERY shatter resistant compared to the older generations. They mostly only break now from user damage and not just normal use of the phone as was so, SOOOOO common in the 1st Gen UTG days (Flip/5G & Fold 2). And the modern PET plastic screen protector's are much, MUUUUUCH better at staying fully stuck to the display long-term, which as described above is a HUUUUUGE deal in preventing UTG screen cracks. While the 1st Gen UTG using Flip/Fold 2 would shatter down the fold line if you even just looked at them funny, the 2nd Gen UTG Fold/Flip 3 definitely COULD last ≈2-3 years of hard use if you were SUPER on top of keeping the screen protector intact and also had a bit of luck. 🤷 With the latest 3rd & 4th Gen's of UTG folding glass + the better & more well attached screen protectors though, that good luck is mostly no longer needed and you don't need to be nearly as anal with the much better screen protectors.

New tech, can’t expect it to be perfect. I’m just glad Samsung isn’t just dropping it because the first version didn’t do well.

Huawei's Mate X2 is close to perfect except for lack of Google services and price.
@Cooe.10 ай бұрын
@@UzumakiNaruto_... Yeah... No... It's most definitely not. It's WAAAAAAY harder to use one-handed (both folded AND unfolded), and square aspect ratio displays absolutely fucking suck MASSIVE DONKEY ASS for BOTH widescreen media watching in landscape and scrolling through modern vertical app feeds in portrait. 🤷 And the similarly sized/shaped OnePlus Open has all the same issues with its practically square ≈9:8 display. Despite it having a NOTABLY larger in total area tablet display vs the Fold 4/5 (and thus harder to use/hold & ESPECIALLY one-handed), the actual viewable screen area of ≈16:9 media content ala KZbin or Netflix is at BEST the same, and actually might be ever so slightly SMALLER! Why? The Fold 4/5's display is significantly more rectangular & "normal shaped" for a tablet (ala the 4:3 iPad's) thanks to having a narrower front display!!! Aka, you can basically choose between having a normal shaped/sized front display or a normal shaped tablet display. Thanks to the basics of geometry you simply can't have both. 🤷 And the closest you can get to having both/the best possible balance between them is currently still the ≈23:9 front display & ≈6:5 tablet display having Galaxy Fold 4/5.

I now have the Z Fold 3 as a personal device. I love ❤this phone! I'm buying the bigger S pen and just keeping it in my pocket like i would do with a regular pen. Get this phone!

I love this phone! Still trying to get use to samsung's keyboard. I use an IPhone 12 Pro Max as a personal device. I can type on that with less mistakes. Its not the hardware. Its samsung's keyboard program. If i use G Board its much better, but I hate how Google keeps my keyboard strikes in their database. So back to samsung keyboard
