I'm a year late but if you ever get interested in checking out explanations of the lore, you should definitely listen to some online analysis videos! Petscop's a pretty sick and cryptic story! As for the Burn-In Monitor, a strong theory is that it exists to ensure the player keeps the console open because *someone* is watching and needs to make sure the player is playing consistently (the loud alarm meant to wake the person up if they try to sleep, or to alert anyone nearby to call a certain number to alert the one behind the screen). Unfortunately this plot point kind of gets sidelined because Petscop is more commonly theorized to be this game someone made to expose a murderer and "create" people in-game by using their inputs. The Burn-In monitor could be related to the latter, but I think it moreso just hints at the idea that the player is being watched.

I find it really annoying when people will play a mod about a very niche topic that incorporates aspects of said source material to give fans the satisfaction of being able to point and say “I know that!”, and will explicitly mention how they didn’t bother to research the source material BEFORE playing the mod, then complaining about the way the mod is presented as having extensive secrets and codes to enter.
