Dog, 5:58 that's a pick by the outside linebacker 10/10 times. Rosen would have had to throw that ball on a rope before the receiver even broke, and lets be honest, he never had the time to develop that kind of trust with anyone in Miami, nor did he have the arm talent. Not saying he's any good, I've watched the film. He's not.

Great video. Look at the psychological reports on n Rosen. They say he questions “why?” Coaches don’t have time for that. The great Randy White said he couldn’t catch on as an LB because he was “a beat behind.” He said “if you have to think, it’s over. You just have to react.” Your video touches on this w/Rosen. Steve Young has the same issue early in his career. Fortunately Young had Sid Gilman to say “just let it go” & Mike Holmgren who coached Young in college to work with him while Young sat behind Joe Montana. Rosen needs to get out of his own way & out of his own head & QUICKLY do what the play requires or he will continue to be a bust.

I strongly encourage you to watch the video before commenting on his offense and saying that his teams were bad. I addressed this in great detail in this video. IMO, when a QB has terrible accuracy from a clean pocket , terrible anticipation causing multiple interceptions, and when a QB is terrible at dealing with pressure, you aren't suddenly going to be good or great on a different team. All those traits will transfer to his new team.
@ohjay7612

My argument is not the team talent, its more the effort to actually develop Rosen. Both the cardinals and dolphins were talking about the number 1 pick before really Rosen got much of a chance, I dont think he was invested in like most other rookies are. Would it have made a difference? Idk. But possibly. I'm a Bills fan and Josh Allen got better in year two cause the Bill's are committed to him, just as an example.

@@ohjay7612 The Cardinals were definitely commited to Rosen his rookie year. Yes, most people projected the Cardinals to have the worst record in the NFL and have the 1st overall pick. @@SamuelGoldNFL Of course, but I dont want to pretend like his situation was normal and that the only possible factor is him and his talent. Look at a guy like Mitch Trubisky. He's awful but his team is STILL giving him chances and worked with him for years to try to make him as good as possible. Rosen got the exact opposite of that treatment, and its far from the usual deal for a top draft pick. Like I said, not saying it would have made a difference. But was his situation anything close to the usual deal for a top pick? No it was not and that is likely a factor.

Great video. Full disclosure: I felt before the draft Rosen was a bust based off his college film. He's slow to process reads and stares receivers down and often seems reluctant when he throws. I also never liked his throwing motion; his arm moves ahead of his base, which causes dead balls. To me, he's a less talented Trubisky [without the mobility or arm talent]. Rosen performed almost exactly as I thought he would. I'm honestly stumped as to why so many were high on him and why people still defend him. It wasn't his "teams"; it was his play.

Really good video. I just heard his conference call with the Bucs reporters, and boy does he sound different than he sounded in college. He's been humbled and it will be interesting to see if he can rebuild himself. I liked what I heard and he said he choose the Bucs practice squad, over a roster spot with another team, because of coaching and he wanted to be in the QB room with Brady and just try to understand how he processes information, and why he does what he does. He says his mindset completely changed after he got benched last year - and from the cocky kid in the draft that I remember, I'd say I believe him. No idea if it translates to the field, I mean he's not even on the 53-man roster, but I don't see how he could be worse than Blaine Gabbert, so he's got that going for him.

His game had no intangibles and was only said to be pro ready, he was seen as the “prototype” guy who played neatly and executed without making many errors. I feel like at the college level, where the competition is less, you have to be more than that; guys like Brady are an anomaly. Scouts should go for the guy that jumps off the film, even if he’s rough around the edges he can be trained up, unlike the guy who had nothing special to his game.

That he was never given a chance and his coaches were bad. Look. Rosen was the #10 pick!!! Players drafted high in the draft go to crappy teams. The final straw was he couldn't beat out Fitz, an old jorneyman qb. If your #10 pick can't beat out a perennial backup then he's useless. Hell, Fitz is even a better backup than he is. This is going to be Baker's problem. If Baker can't outplay Burrows then Baker is absolutely useless in the AFCN.

You can't learn everything that you need to know in the nfl, from the nfl, you have to know some things straight out of college. the reason why Burrow was the number one pick wasn't his talent, it wasn't his athleticism, it wasn't his celing, it is because of how crazy proto nfl quarterback he had already become in college, he developed all the right essential nfl habits, he learned to very quickly read defenses, has nfl footwork, he developed great eye discipline, very good at pre and post snap reads, everything he needs to thrive in the nfl. Herbert is going from high school level knowledge to the nfl, he's going to be a disaster, burrow is a quicker reader of defenses than many nfl quarterbacks, is mechanically flawless and had the polished quarterback play ever out of college, the cleanest tape for a quarterback ever, the best single season record ever, and even he's going to struggle against the elite NFL pass rush of the settlers and ravens, he's going to have a tough tough time and he's literally the most elite prospect, Herbert is going to be a nightmare under pressure even two years from now

I am also not going to blame the teams for his lack of success and development. A perfect example is Kyler Murray, Rosen's replacement. Although we are comparing two very different quarterbacks, Murray had essentially the same offensive talent to work with and faired much better than Rosen. Since Rosen's rookie year, he has had major issues with anticipation and something stared at his recievers. Sam showed in this video a clear indication of this lack of anticipation in his second year. Although Rosen in Arizona had one of the worst offensive lines and only decent weapons, Kyler generated significantly more offense with the same talent around him. However I do understand I'm not accounting for the change in schemes when the Cardinals brought in Kingsbury. In Miami, we saw a very similar scenario play out. Rosen has multiple opportunities to win the starting job. I find it very unlikely that Miami's expectations were too high for Rosen to succeed. They knew they were not a very good roster and were looking to see development out of Rosen. Instead, he showed a lack of improvement from his rookie season and still had some bad habits. Despite Miami's poor roster, we saw a significant change to their offense when they benched Risen for Fitzpatrick. Although I definitely won't say it is an amazing offense, they almost came back and won the game against the Redskins. I believe they went 0-7 to start the season. After starting Fitzpatrick in the remainder of the season, they finished 5-11 beating the Eagles and Patriots who are both playoff teams. I think this is significant reason to show that Miami's roster was not the reason for Rosen's lack of success.

I had a feeling CPOE didn't include drops (given some discrepancies with film-charted "accuracy" I'd seen). Sure, it's still a big improvement, but it's a shame that a source (NFL) with such resources can't adjust for a pretty simple thing (especially when so many "advanced" metrics are behind pay-walls nowadays).

Honestly, the dude has less than 2 seconds to get rid of the ball on nearly every play. Miami and Arizona had by far the worst Offensive Line's in all the NFL and probably rank among the worst of all time. I know lots of these were timing throws on short routes, but he still had pressure coming on these short routes. Give this dude some time to throw the ball and I'd like to see what that does for his confidence and accuracy. Also, 8% drops is brutal. Tough for any QB to keep drives moving with those many drops. This kid is getting an unfair review after getting thrown to the wolves. I'd like to see what he looks like with better players around him with a better grasp of the playbook. Chad O'Shea had a horribly complicated scheme. I think you will see the best Josh Rosen this season and he will put most of those doubts to rest. Miami would be wise to hang on to him as a back up to Tua and trade him when his trade value is at an acceptable level.

It's clear that the coaching staff at Arizona was bad (they got canned), but I think that the Dolphins shouldn't get lumped in with that. @southernsmoke8391 4 жыл бұрын
No they wouldn't have won 5 with Rosen bc the OC was over his head. Flores and Oshea failed Rosen by playing him when they were still figuring things out. Those five wins came against who? That pats game, the offense and defense were the same on both sides. A few of BB's wannabes have a quality win over the 1st yr after they left NE so what does that one win mean? They are still predicted to finish ahead of Miami in 2020, with Stidham at qb. If Rosen is a bust, why wouldn't Grier trade him to NE or keep him on the roster? NO and Dal got backups that Fitztragic couldn't beat out but we are going to hold onto a bust bc he is cheap, not bc he can play. Grier has three draft picks into two players, one of which is a bust and the other one is subject to getting busted up. Enjoy the kool aid and that Tua jersey.

Good physical talent, but no head for the game, no proven leadership, and for such a supposed transcendent talent, no impact in making his team successful. Great combine numbers are nice, but it doesn't override mediocre actual play. Even in a way down Pac 12 he wasn't a consistent performer. It was like his high school hype carried over to the draft, and his meh college play was somehow ignored.

Rosen reminds me a lot of Joey Harrington a guy that looked great till pressured or he had to speed up his reads. He just couldn’t calculate the speed of nfl defenders and it caused him to ultimately fail. That’s what I see as Rosen’s bigger problem. Some guys can just either slow down the field or speed up there mind to be great Rosen can’t his talent and ability can’t carry him in the Nfl because the game is just to fast for him. I think there are a lot of quarterbacks like this. Guys that when there is no pressure or or they are just working out make all the throws and look amazing. But that’s not the biggest part of being an nfl QB measurable darr the least important part of being an Nfl QB. It’s the ability to slow down the play or speed your play up. Rosen never had this so his abilities only took him as far as an ok to good college quarterback. I don’t think you can rebuild a guys mind. It just seems to be something you are born with or not.
@DannyWilliamH
@DannyWilliamH 4 жыл бұрын
5:53 No. He throws that ball and it's an INT. The check was right in this case. The defender is breaking on the route exactly as the slot breaks in his. That's 100% an INT for a guy with his arm. About 10 guys in the league can make that throw and Rosen isn't one of them.
