Exactly. Levi is completely traumatized and broken. So many have died while he lived. All those recruits dying just to give him a shot at Zeke and Zeke got away. Everyone knows he is the stronger man so sometimes they have to give themselves up so Levi can finish it. Thats a terrible burden.

Levi is the real protagonist, the real hero. He is not enslaved to the idea of freedom, he doesn't crave for some dream or satisfy an addiction to make his life worth something. He is a simple man who does what he needs to do yet is capable of thinking for himself. Levi is more free than Eren who is enslaved to his own cravings for freedom.

I agree with you, but I don't think Levi is more free than Eren. Levi desperately wants to kill Zeke (or at least cut off his limbs and make some titan eat him). Even in the latest episode, he tells himself, "Finally I get to keep the promise that I gave you Erwin". So, I felt like Levi is also bound by this promise he made for Erwin and the revenge against Zeke, which doesn't make him completely free. (Btw, I am not a manga reader, so, I might not know everything)
