It’s just Japanese people larping as their favourite characters from history. I love it.

It's funny where is okita?

I read that Okita Soji was ill during the incident at the ikidaya (sp?). I am wondering if the females performers were meant to represent him.

where do they get there fake katanas from
@RoninOfTheDead4 жыл бұрын
Those are iaito katanas, theres a lot of them and are commonly used in iaido and as act props instead of using a real blade.
@smackmmk4 жыл бұрын
@@RoninOfTheDead I thought with iaito katana you could still cut with it. What is the difference between a real blade and a iaito?
@RoninOfTheDead4 жыл бұрын
@@smackmmk iaitos are unsharpened imitation katanas for props or iaido training, they are also metal but mostly aluminum or zinc alloy with a shiny chrome plating. Some iaitos are made of low carbon 1045 steel, and yes they can cut soft things if you sharpen it but I do not recommend it. You'll only waste the sword if it gets a big chunk off the edge or bent it beyond repair.

@@RoninOfTheDead thank you so much for the information, that is super helpful for me. Where is a place to buy some of these swords, I would like to have some for props
@RoninOfTheDead4 жыл бұрын
@@smackmmk you can get them almost anywhere from legit online shops, but of course best qualities are from Japan or anywhere produced in Asia. But be sure to check it's specifications if it's a full tang with a mekugi peg lock.

Were there actually female samurai, or is that a thing they added just for the show?
@RoninDave10 жыл бұрын
in Shinsengumi? No but there were a few female warrior in history like Tomoe Gozen
@sakesama19 жыл бұрын
tokanite YES there were female samurai, they were called "Onna Bugeisha". They were not talked about as much, but mostly when the husbands went off to war they were left to protect the villages & Homes. . I have opened up a free all Girls Onna Bugeisha school in Cebu Philippines, Bushidokan Samurai Kenjutsu Dojo ( FaceBook), I teach the Samurai sword & samurai Jujitsu Street Combat. I only except women/Girls who want to learn or who have been attacked or raped so they can find their center, regain their dignaty & Honor, and defend themselfes even up to killing if they have to. They also take and agree to the Samurai blood oath. This school only trains small numbers at a time usually 4 so they have a one on one feel during class. So far it has been VERY Effective training program and is designed for women. If you are that interested do your research the information on Woman Samurai is out there..

Not in the shinsengumi, but there were warrior women through the history of Japan. Not exactly samurai and they didn't go to fight as men did; they were expected to keep the household in check. Whenever the house was attacked, though, they fought. It is said that one of Takeda Shingen's lovers was a fierce woman who fought among the men during the battles against Kagetora, eventually dying herself in the field.

The over acting is great. As a round eye I've always been enamored by Japanese history but shouldn't they have using firearms at this point in time? Thanks for this video.
@RoninDave10 жыл бұрын
firearms were strictly controlled and were not worn around town like cowboys. The sword was the symbol of the samurai's status which they carried around all the time. The guns were for battles not street brawls
@999across10 жыл бұрын
Ronin Dave I was always under the assumption that by the late 1800's swords were more a fashion statement in Japan as opposed to an actual battle implement. Then again, I don't know much about the history of Japan & will defer to your knowledge on the subject. Thanks. BTW- Any possibility you'd make commentary videos on the societal expectations, culture, etc of Japan from your perspective? Just an idea. Thanks for the videos.
@DrWolfenstein3138 жыл бұрын
For the shinsengumi in particular it was a matter of honor; they were proud of their swords and their techniques and samurai didn't look good, in the eyes of many, carrying guns. Additionally, firearms weren't very spread until the outbreak of the Boshin War, by which time the shogunate was on its way out and the imperialists held the monopoly of guns, together with occidental military training. Kondo Isami was shot himself, although he survived.
