7:57 this thing is really cool! The ability to get those fretless sounds in techniques without having to use a slide or buy a new instrument, while being able to get an idea where notes are below it seems great. It also doesn’t cover the entire fretboard indicates to me that they should make one that only covers the bottom half so you can still use the top half for some chords (or you could just saw it in half) so that you can kinda emulate a viola de gamba and play chords with frets and melodies fretless.

Best way to make music with the fart pedal is to run it through a signal blender and rig it up in parallel and it is just hilarious. I have an electric upright bass and I was plaing Bach's first suite and activating the pedal is just too funny. And at the end in the prelude when that chord is slammed, as it rings out there's just a honkin', wet fart that blows and it's just... well, let's just say Mozart would be so proud.

Absolutely every time I see one of those electric sitar guitars, I think of an interview I read when I was a kid with Robert Smith of the Cure where he was talking about using one of them in the song Fascination Street, and he says that "it sounds less like a sitar than an egg does." For some reason, that quote has stuck with me for the rest of my life. 😆

That Shruti box is rad. It would be pretty easy to create those same drone tones with a harmonium, and I'm guessing that's some of the inspiration, but the idea that one can pump the Shruti box while also playing another instrument is so cool.
@drpibisback7680
@drpibisback7680 Жыл бұрын
After looking it up, the Shruti Box is indeed descended from the Harmonium. Before the Harmonium was introduced to India, the drones in their music were produced with string instruments like the Tambura.

I've got an older device called the Makey Makey, which works much like the Playtron but is a little more general; by default, it appears to the computer to be a computer keyboard, so it's sending keypresses to whatever app is open, and if you want MIDI from that you have to have a program that translates (or reprogram it, since it's internally an Arduino). Anyway, its standard demo was the Banana Piano.
@portwain

I was going to make something similar to the Playtron(albeit VERY janky due to having practically no budget lol) for an artpiece in metal workshop when I studied art in university, but the world shutting down that spring kind of got in the way. I wanted to dangle a bunch of strings from the ceiling or strips of steel protruding from the wall, all connected to some kind of MIDI device and a speaker to make an interactive soundscape with it. Maybe I could try it again now that there is a device that will do the touch-to-sound-signal part for me :o
@maledictionwolf
@maledictionwolf Жыл бұрын
If you run the fart pedal through reverb and distortion, you can create some great dark ambient sounds. There's a guy (I think it's crustbag?) who has a video where he makes a full on song by doing that, although he uses a DAW rather than pedals.

My Heart Will go On until the rubber band breaks 🤣 the resistance must make it difficult so kudos are earned. The sitaratar Across the Universe was kinda pretty but the childlike laughter between Samurai Jenny and Sammy G was priceless. No practical value outside of the surprising someone (especially a stoner) but, the vegetable piano if it had 88 wires and if you used black and white sponges or something could be cool? Why not just buy a keyboard though right? I still liked the pickle drum machine because it caught me off guard 🤣✌️❤️🎸🎶🙏

I love these kinds of videos. It's just wild what people create, left to be unearthed by some samurai from Winnipeg 😅 Speaking of such finds, I found a mini Koto in at a thrift store a few days ago. It's more of a novelty/centrepiece than an actual instrument, but you can tune it and play it... just not very well lol. It just makes me wish I had a spare three thousand dollars lying around to buy a real koto. Also, something that would be neat to explore is the world of single board computers like the Raspberry Pi and BeagleBone. People have taken those little circuit boards, barely the size of a credit card, and used them to create their own multi-fx pedals, instruments, even recording rigs. It's insane how technology has evolved

Thanks for the demo of the shruti pedal. I've seen them in the catalogue of an online instrument retailer but didn't realize they were foot-activated. Definitely something I'd be interested in. For drones, I use the Electro Harmonix Ravish Sitar pedal. I have no relationship with Electro Harmonix and don't get anything for mentioning their products. Of course, it's not like a real sitar or tambura, but it sounds good. I always use it in combination with an AB/Y pedal. I think the design could use some improvement so this wouldn't be necessary. It's also very useful to use a sustain pedal for the sake of the lead (there's a lead and a drone output). The only sustain pedal I know of is also from EHX, the Freeze pedal. It's one of the pedals I use the most.
