My back feels so much better. Also, my dryer broke a couple months ago and so I’ve just been hang drying everything and my clothes look better. I think the bed and dryer will no longer be something I have. I enjoy your videos.

I really love minimalism. Growing up from a very poor family, our stuffs at home are very few. Never had new clothes, bags, toys, gifts, tv, radio, shoes and so on. In the kitchen, only one pan and one pot, we have to really take care of them. The cooking spoon was made out of coconut shell and bamboo. Me and my siblings studied and worked hard so we could afford buying our own stuffs, at least the basics. In my case, i became a hoarder coz I already have the means to buy what I want. Now, I am working hard to eliminate my stuffs, i just wanna have the life I had before...very minimal on material things and not harming the environment.

I hope this starts up again in neighborhoods. As a single mom, I started a group of like minded people where we shared large family sized groceries, especially produce; we had a toy library, books and DVD (ok, a while ago, lol), and when one rented a carpet cleaner for 24 hrs, we all used it. We had a "my time" schedule to share babysitting. it was awesome.

Interesting about magnesium 😮. The western way of life has had many people believing they need all these STUFF to be happy when it's quite the opposite. What you’ve shown about your lifestyle are refreshingly simple and I’d like to replicate that, even if it’s just a little bit at a time. My wife wanted me to ask you how you deal with people gifting you unnecessary things you don’t need in polite ways? We are recently married and both of our families are always buying us stuff for when we get a house of our own. We appreciate them doing that but it’s too much. Because they are going out of their way to buy things for us we feel rude turning them away. Any recommendations?

Maybe make it known you don't need any more things. Nobody does. You can skip gifting most of the time to no awful outcome. I haven't done Christmas in many years. I didn't need to spend a lot of money. The kids didn't need to be spoiled and I didn't need to take things home. Nice gifts: a plant or a nice flower arrangement in say an ice cream glass. Soaps. Suggestion? Since they attract lots of bugs and dust, maybe use the library to save some "for later" on their website. They also have tons of things besides books. Dvds, cds, and downloadable media like movies. Books, magazines. I have the same issues. So, I designate a spine bookshelf for regular sized books, and just pick the ones I really like and am reading. If you give each one a chapter or two, you'll easily find the ones you like or don't. Then, that frees up time and space for things you really DO like. This is just me, but cockroaches eat the glue, as do silverfish. So, nothing should ever be sitting around unused. I knew someone who had that problem and it was just horrific. I do it, too, but I've done the above and the herd is gradually thinning. Bring the others to a charity thrift store marked FREE after they close, so they don't have so much they can't get through. Someone will grab things first. Jmo.

My grandmother always hung her clothes up on a line outside to dry. I loved the smell and the crispiness of the fabric. Unfortunately, I cannot do that because of my severe allergies. I live in the US and in my area pollen covers everything in the spring. You come outside and cars are completely covered in yellow and green pollen dust. I often have to wear a mask in the spring to get to my car. Even if I didn’t have allergies, I wouldn’t want to be wearing clothes and using towels covered in pollen. You are fortunate that you don’t have to experience this where you live.

I think you could adjust your cleaning by using multipurpose soaps like Castile soap. Can be used as shampoo, floor cleaner, detergent and body soap. I think for me, it sounds like I’m using floor cleaner on my skin… and my skin and scalp is sensitive so I use different soaps, lotions and others. When I thought about it I realised all cleaners just need an active agent to remove bacteria (and different types of bacteria require different things) and oil, give moisture if it’s your skin and make things smell nice. But, water is not enough in most cases. Water cannot strip build up from your scalp or remove certain bacteria from your underwear. But there are natural, sustainable and multipurpose options for minimalism. Water is not enough if you care about the health or cosmetics of your hair or skin either. It seems like a lot of your choices come from travel, but since your stationery right now does that change anything for you?

I really thought that No. 10 was "I don't have a girlfriend". I am a minimalist at the core, but not that extreme. Just got married and my husband would like a TV and more decoration on the walls. We're having a baby due soon and I had to ask my family and friends to not bring any presents or clothes. I've already bought what is necessary for a baby. I think I'd have a panic attack if my place was cluttered. For my husband, we'll just build a house with some rooms his style and some rooms mine. That's the compromise. Otherwise I get really nervous.

I don't consider myself a minimalist per se but I do love simplicity and don't like a cluttered space. I try to keep my space very clean. I feel lighter this way. I use detergent but I use vinegar with some essential oils at the rinse cycle instead of fabric softener.

Man, you're inspiring! Thanks for your videos, I loved it. It seems I'll start a new life in the new future and I have a chance to question the necessity of the things that I used to use every day at home. You helped me a lot, thank you so much! :) The solution you find for the bed is lovely, I'll definitely get one. It functions also as a couch. So, the only things that I need on day 1, are the folding mattress and a desk to work. I was also questioning the vacuum cleaner and ta taam, you gave me the idea. :) No more wardrobes and much more. Lovely solutions. But don't you need a pillow? Are you comfortable without it? I'm always sleeping not on my back, but on my sides.

Water and mag are not enough to remove dirt from clothes, since we produce oils which are fat-based.

I know how you feel. I used to have long hair, and I had difficulty in washing with no shampoo…
@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr28232 жыл бұрын
Be careful with that. I know some dummy who didn't see a dentist and refused toothpaste. Lost all his teeth and skin-wise, ended up with MRSA, so...it's a b*tch to get rid of, too. I personally have long hair and if I brush it often, I can do bird baths and just wash the important stuff so you don't dry it all out. I can go maybe 3 days that way. If I'm sweating or swimming, tho, all bets are off. Chlorine, even at a clean pool where you aren't knocked off your feet by that smell, still messes up your skin.

oh i do the same for the number 1 :) it surprised me when you expressed it :) i did not realise i might be on the path of minimalist already :) i travelled before too, and since i have no more tv, no more heavy furnitures, as i am quite a tiny woman, i wanted to be able to move easily and move the stuff by myself alone, with relax , with not to have to worry to rent car or asking each time i want to clean move change place to things :) i feel so serene that way :) and no buying washing products and stuff etc, and i can choose the things to watch to learn :) and i learn thanks to your channel about the tenugui, and discover so many things, thanks. it is funny when we start to let go or see things differently, we realise that we do not need so many things finally :) travel i think bring a lot of people to become minimalist then :) we feel lighter then :)

We have at home a TV that’s about 50 years old, it doesn’t work properly anymore and ever since my grandfather, who used to watch the news on it each evening, doesn’t live anymore, we don’t use the TV at all. I’m thinking of getting a hi-fi tower into my home once I will live on my own instead since I own a lot of vinyl records and love the sound of old gramophones rotating

I wish I didn’t have to use shampoo. I love my long hair, but I have to shampoo it at least once every two days or it gets extremely greasy. I try to use more natural stuff as opposed to nasty chemically soap though so I think it is fine

I have curly hair, and my hair stylist suggested years ago that I use brown sugar instead of shampoo. It took a couple of washes to get used to it but it really works on both my hair-for moisture and my scalp is very clean and non-smelly. You may want to try it.

I agree with you about ironing. Recently I just made the decision to do away with my dresser. It is a huge piece of furniture that I really don't need. I'll have so much more room without it!! Your dishes get truly clean without soap? And your hair and body get really clean without soap/shampoo?? Thanks for the vid.

This is a very minimalist lifestyle. It doesn’t suit the family of 4-5 who go to school and work and have to wear uniforms (Australia). A camping table or a sleeping bag suit you, but I appreciate my well crafted table made from sustainable forest certified wood and my feather doona which has lasted 20+ years.
