As someone who's been using the Sony E-mount version of this lens, for me the size isn't the problem. However, this lens weighs around 1.3kg which is quite monstrous for its size. I bought this lens mainly for travel, but I find myself being tired out quickly. I also struggle to allocate weight and space in my camera bag for this beast. But like you said, the versatility and image quality it produces just outweighs all the cons. And it's definitely a keeper.

I have this for the Sony E mount and love it. Can't wait to get this for my Lumix cameras. Might be getting two of them. Love the footage.

The very stiff zoom ring is probably their answer for the problem on E-Mount version where it has a very bad lens creep! 😂 I'm an E-Mount user and this is why I returned this lens despite being a great performer lenses. I might try to buy again soon cause I heard some versions of this lens on E-Mounts has already fixed that problem.

Excellent review and beautiful footage. The only issue I can see is the weight, which might require a more sturdy tripod or slider, but apart from that, it's a super lens.

Awesome - thx again Russell.. Having just bought my first Lumix S5IIX, I was about to but the S Pro 24-70, but saw this just in time.. One question.. When transitioning from near to far focus points is it as smooth as the 24-70 which is perfect (just loaned one last weekend!) - IGNORE ME - You mention it at 1min 30 - 40. FABULOUS NEWS,, buying one now - ps Seems to be £200 cheaper on Cotswold Cameras (or am I missing something!?)

Just checked out the Cotswold Cameras link and yep, looks £250 cheaper there!! And yes, it’s very smooth transitioning but that might be AF sensitivity or speed setting dependent but in my tests I liked how natural it was.

The lens stiffness comment is interesting because a lot of people thought it was too loose on the Sony version (compared to the similar Tamron lens) so it may have been something they intentionally adjusted.

@kyleb45956 ай бұрын
Loving this lens! However, I occasionally get a "lens attachment failed" error when shooting photos. I will take a picture and it will flash to a black screen for a moment before giving the error. I've managed to circumvent it by adjusting the zoom ring when the black screen comes up. Sort of a bandaid solution--any ideas for a more reliable fix?
@RussellKentNicholls6 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that Kyle, it could be a faulty copy of the lens - I haven't experienced that issue myself with photos - hopefully a fw update could fix this.

@@RussellKentNicholls There is a firmware update and it can be carried when lens is attached to camera body for L-mount cameras. The current file as 16 Sept 2024 is 7801V210.plf and is contained in a folder called LAF35150F20_v02. Copy the firmware file to .plf to the root of the camera SD card and perform a firmware update with a full battery, or connected to a charger. I did mine today on a Lumix S1R. No problems and it took about 3 minutes.

Hello, there's a big problem with the lens. Wait for the new firmware before purchasing. The current model causes a major blackout when the lens is stopped down on all models. I have the S5, S52x, S52, and S1R, and they all have the same problem. Action shots with continuous shooting are impossible because your viewfinder remains black and the autofocus can't keep up.
