The End of the World is actually one of my favourite ever episodes. it's so underrated. it just perfectly epitomises the mix of humour, emotion, philosophy and campy thrills that the show tries to sell. it's got an underdeveloped plot, but you're not going to get much out of an RTD episode if you're looking for intricate plotting; his extraordinary strengths as a writer lie elsewhere.

Gotta agree with you. Although i'm probably biased since this was my introduction to the show.

Yeah I'm actually surprised he said THAT would alienate people haha, when the first episode is pure shlock and it's put 7 people I know off the show first hand, til they saw blink or heaven sent or just any good Tennant/Smith/Capaldi episode, THEN they go back and appreciate 9 and the first season But end of the world is definitely a solid episode, with such a vast premise while still being hopeful and fun Also..9 was definitely not too harsh to the prick getting the head implant haha, he was a shady dick who almost got them killed, screw him haha

Christopher Eccelston is one of the finest actors in Great Britain. Anybody who doesn’t think he set the Barr for the more modern day Doctor is seriously deciding themselves. David Tennant was a good Doctor for sure. Matt Smith was my favourite Doctor. Peter Capaldi was let down by poor stories and weak characters. Which was a shame as Capaldi is a damn good actor. But Chris Eccelston breathed new life in the Doctor straight off the bat. He combined so many facets for the new generation of Doctor. He commanded center stage in every episode without having to try. As an actor he made the Doctor a very relatable character . His on screen chemistry with Billie Piper was effortless. The only other pairing that came close for me was Matt Smith and Karen Gillan. I personally was gutted when he decided on only one series. But I guess this is what makes good actors great actors, their unpredictability.

Betty Swallocks Eccleston’s latest take on Macbeth was insane. The new series hasn’t hosted one mediocre actor to date.
@kevin100016 жыл бұрын
Betty Swallocks he was a great doctor but what makes the first 1 seasons of the revival hard to watch is having rose in them and it's not the actress's fault for that it's the cult of rose that ruined those seasons by acting like she is why the show is still on like no other factor can be the reason for the it's only her as that reason
@simonfyfe63056 жыл бұрын
kevin10001 I would say that’s a valid point, I actually didn’t mind Rose, but I think someone at the been was pushing the feminist agenda. At least with Amy pond there was the balance with Rory. For me it went down hill after matt Smith left the role. When Peter Capaldi took over he was let down by poor stories and even worse sidekicks. He could have been one of the best as he is a great character actor.

Great video, I couldn't agree more that the 9th doctor is a great underrated doctor. He is not my favorite, even though he is my first doctor, but I wish we had seen more of him. I like that you included the books as well. Not very many whovians on KZbin do that and it exposes whovians to some new stories they have never seen before. I have to disagree with you on winner takes all though. I loved listening to audio story and was really invested in it. I couldn't stop until I listened to the full five hours.

Ninth Doctor was a great doctor - I feel the current series feels like a revisit to working-class and more realism that Ninth Doctor showcased, and who knows, maybe the time is right now for a renewed call for him to make a reappearance? Slim chance, but now is a better time than ever before - new showrunner, and the look and feel is more similar to what he was trying for. 9 had real issues from what we now know was the Time War as the War Doctor (John Hurt) - that made him a lot more interesting than the subsequent doctors because more than other doctors he had a journey to make.
@SamyulDavis6 жыл бұрын
dirtywashedupsparkle Whittaker seems to be carrying on that sentiment right now! I think it’s a great direction Eccleston took the character that few else would’ve ever thought of or considered.

Loving the Ninth Doctor puts me a little in mind of what it must be like to be a child whose parents have divorced, and one of them has just disappeared entirely from your life, and you don't completely understand what exactly happened, and your step-parent is cool and everything, with his 3D glasses and his bowtie, but you want that other parent to come back some time, and deep down you know they're not coming home. They're not coming home. But, Eccleston, we miss you. Come back! Just to visit! . . . Daddy!

I met (i say met because it always feels like i'm the companion while watching) 9 when I was really young, and besides a few good moments, the storyline of The Empty Child and The Doctor Dances stuck with me. I recently got back into the show because of my good friend, and 9 kept the same magic about him when I met him again. It was awesome! 9 is my first and favorite doctor too, and I'm so glad that others here agree, because most of my friends irl pay no attention to 9 and its kinda annoying. Anyways, just wanted to say how much I adore the 9th doctor and appreciate this video! Also my favorite 9th Doctor moment was "Everybody lives!" from The Doctor Dances. Its just so incredible to see the doctors face light up like that. Have a swell day!

Carolina Z. D. I don’t think any actor has as many iconic moments in just one series than Eccleston! My favourite is “My planets gone” speech at the end of episode 2. @SamyulDavis7 жыл бұрын
Ben Welsh personally I never let that bother me. I think Moffat got lucky with 9 not returning. Hurt was fantastic and it also meant 9 wasn't in the TimeWar which in retrospect works better. I don't see silly 9 pulling off Hurt's role in that story, nor being hated enough by 10/11. Him being a simple, romantic return to time travel than warrior works great.
@benwelsh52657 жыл бұрын
Eccleston can ham it up sure but he can also play the emotionally scarred Doctor pretty well and as good as Hurt was we needed a Doctor we knew to be faced with the decision of using the Moment. C'mon you had Mcgann who still looks young enough to fit back into the role and yet he is badly underused.
@kevin100016 жыл бұрын
SamyulDavis actually if u look at the original storyboards for the 50th anniversary special they have him in it and it's actually not the same plot we actually got they had to come up with the new doctor when he refused to come back cause of the behind the scenes problems he had while doing season one

My first Doctor was technically Tom Baker, as I have very strong recollections of watching the Keeper of Traken at my aunt's house. But I would have been 4 when then came out, so I don't think it counts. I have a very strong recollection of the terileptil robot attacking Nyssa in The Visitation (which is my favourite Peter Davison story, just because its such a good romp). I also remember missing the third episode of Earthshock due to a video error and being really upset. I'd have been 6 at the time. I have vague memories of Colin Baker's Doctor but I was just the right age to truly appreciate the gems that were seasons 25 and 26, which even now, contain some of the best Doctor Who stories ever written (specifically Remembrance and Curse). Even Ghostlight is very strong on atmosphere (despite confusing Light for Lionel Blair as a kid). My point really is that 4, 5 or 6 should count as "my Doctor" but its actually 7 and Ace which is my era of Doctor Who.
