You did a great job with this, I really enjoyed your video! I drive past this road cut regularly and am always amazed at the story it tells. One of these days I'm going to stop at Avenue S and take a look close up for myself. Thanks and I subscribed!

Is there an exposed area of the San Andreas fault anywhere? I recall going camping in the Yucaipa area for school during fifth grade and vaguely remember a camp counselor telling us we were walking on the fault, but I don't remember much else, let alone the name of what camp that would have been.

Today was a good morning to watch a lot of your earthquake videos, because tonight we felt a 3.9 earthquake with an epicenter 8.2 miles away. “What causes earthquakes?” the 8 Year Old asked. I have never been so prepared for a kids science question!
@Jeremy.Patrich

A 3.9? Not a bad shake! Any aftershocks? I'm assuming it was from the Hayward fault in the Bay Area.

@@Jeremy.Patrich Yep. Hayward fault line. I found a fellow Oakland student in our class discussion board who also felt it!

Also, was the road being cut going through the pressure ridge accidental and the exposed formation then discovered as a result, or was it careful planning meant to highlight this geological wonder?
@Jeremy.Patrich
@Jeremy.Patrich 2 жыл бұрын
The road cut was planned as it was out of need to cut through- but accidental as to what was exposed!

Great point- between drought and wells.... aquifers are certainly being impacted at an alarming rate in California.

Honestly though, the advantage of being out there - is that its not overbuilt. So the damage would most likely be less - generally making it safer! Besides... you have a front row ticket!

When the "Big One" hits, do you think the West side of the fault will crack off into the Pacific Ocean? Or do you think the two sides will slide past each other? Or plunge into each other, and create a Higher mountain top? The area I'm most interested in, is the area of the Fault that extends/bends from 'City Ranch Road' in Palmdale, down through Elizabeth Lake Rd.
@Jeremy.Patrich
@Jeremy.Patrich 3 жыл бұрын
These are great questions. I can tell you, first, that since the San Andreas is a pressure ridge, it will never pull part and split California. That's some good news! But since it is s strike slip- it will push together and slide past one another. The bigger part of the picture is all the other faults that are perpendicular to the San Andreas. Those are they areas you would likely see more lift. Looking at Google Earth, City Ranch Rd. is either on or next to the fault for quite some time. In fact, you can see some wrinkling in the landscape from the movement of the plates closer to Leona Valley. Here is an article with some geologic maps! www.cityoflancasterca.org/home/showpublisheddocument?id=27256

@@Jeremy.Patrich I've been hearing some disturbing information derived from Navy Sources, and they seem to believe California will be under water after the 'Big One' hits. I happen to live on one of the Hills above the San Andreas Fault (it's actually one street over), so I'm especially concerned about this information. Can you take a look at this map, and give me your thought on it please.... us-browse.startpage.com/av/anon-image?piurl=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.millennium-thisiswhoweare.net%2Ftiwwa%2Fmonthly_03_2012%2Fpost-3933-0-82708800-1332523604_thumb.jpg&sp=1625006804Tdf4df3e2d751b99236d287fc32030f2bb6efd13f1163ed0fd1063592e361d8ef

@@Jeremy.Patrich This is a recording of 'Al Beilek' -- a Former Navy Captain who was involved with the 'Philidelphia Experiment' , and the Navy's secret Time Travel Program. He describes the geological changes that he observed that will take place sometime between now and 2025. According to Captain Beilek, California will be under water after the earthquake. I wanted your thoughts on this... kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXzdpmR5nZt8bpo

So this map has been mass-produced, one of the earliest is that this map was called where the coastline would be after a massive nuclear reactor explosions. It's been used be many sources, but none that are tied to the NAVY. I mean, if this was true, why does the NAVY have their base in China Lake... which would be 'underwater' ? In short- this is a fallacy, and essentially impossible. The plates would need to move in a completed different direction, and water would need to go over the traverses, san gabriels and santa monica mountains. Even if California was an island... the main continent would need to sink hundreds of feet,

Yea... now we are getting into urban legends and confirmed hoaxes. He turned his experiences into lore- even a book he wrote doesn't have the credibility... and is looked at as a hoax.

Is this how Mormon Rocks were formed? I have no formal education, so forgive my ignorance. I heard that somewhere the rocks were basically formed under extreme pressure deep within the Earth before emerging as they are today at the surface. I notice similar patters in this terrain as the rocks. To me this formation looks like the beginning of a formation like Mormon Rocks. You may appreciate a video I created flying a drone over the rocks. I'd link it but I think the comment will get flagged. Thanks for sharing the info!
