Well thanks Laaauurrreen!!! Couldn't be so close to San Antonio and not stop by to see what the big deal is. We were a little scared about how crowded it was gonna be with the tournament going on then.

The RiverWalk is a real river. I live between San Antonio and Austin and there is so much you missed on your tours through the area. I have very much enjoyed watching the fun side of your adventures.

We have done the caves...awesome! Wasn't as crowded in September only had about 10 or 12 people on the tour. River walk is cool! First time there was compliments of the Air Force in 1978 and always talked about going back....finally made it a couple of years ago.

Have a blast while you're there! We were there during Final Four, so here's to hoping that you have less of a crowd do deal with!

It only made us more ready to get into REAL Mexico. Just over six months away and we'll be there for real. I think I'm going to track how many tacos I eat...

What's so funny is I took my husband to San Antonio for an anniversary thing because he loves history and wanted to see the Alamo. I wanted to see the River Walk. You just crushed the trip by telling me it's not a real river! Boy do I feel stupid! We stayed in a posh hotel on the river and had dinner and a walk down there and my fav photo was of him eating Texas toast! (We're from Minnesota). Yep, I am a weirdo. Thanks for the tour! X

We are FAR from authorities on the riverwalk. Most of our learning was done with a Margarita in hand. From what we were told the riverwalk was originally built as flood control and then eventually built out over the years. It still connects back to the actual river though so it's real! BTW- the texas toast photo isn't a weird fav to have- you saw how happy finney was over the fact pepper got a bowl of ice for dinner. It's all about the details!

m.s.: I'm from there and have never heard that it looks fake, but, I guess that could be a fair comment from a tourist. The SA river is a real river fed from a spring. Over time and many floods the river bottom and banks had to be reinforced in the downtown area. With that stability shops and restaurants were able to function. A dam was put in to keep that section level and to assist with flood control and erosion. Don't pay attention to disparaging comments. I would say that Disney Land, etc. copied the SA model. And, while I'm at it who goes to the Alamo for five minutes just to take a selfie? Hi, from Texas!!

Love San Antonio! There's so much to do and so much to see. If you happen to pass through OKC, stop by Bricktown. They have a similar layout there much like the Riverwalk in SA. I think you'd enjoy it! =)

Now, this was a really great episode, you guys! Jo has suggested going to San Antonio, but I have demurred (I have always wanted to use that word!) because I just didn't think it would be interesting enough. But, the caves, the Mercado, and the River Walk? I'm sold.
@timandfin
@timandfin 6 жыл бұрын
I concur with your demur. Wasn't that excited for San Antonio but the caves were really great. I didn't expect all the variation and the size of the structures underground. Granted, it's a commercial tour and not through a park but it seemed like whomever owned it was doing their best to preserve it against damage from the thousands of tourists that pass through it. The RiverWalk made me a bit crazy because it was so packed but I would bet it's much better on a weekday night. I'd skip dinner and just do drinks- I feel like the food is never good that close to tourist epicenters.

No question that the food is generally less authentic and is less tasty, while being more expensive, when near the major tourist sights. I would also expect that if you go in the off season, Nov. to April, you might be able to enjoy it more. Regardless, I think we'll take it in sometime when students are back in school and the weather is cooler thanks to your video. And, if it doesn't work out.... I don't hold a grudge.... for too long!😉

We ended up just using our iphone 7+'s . We used one phone as a flashlight and the other to film. Our "nice" camera doesn't do very well in the dark.....based on what we've learned it looks like we need a different lens before we start using it in low light.

San Antonio is one of those special cities in America because it's so unique. We, Texans, love our Alamo. Thanks to our founding Texans, the Tennesee volunteers, and Phil Collins.

We're out of Texas now but we loved every minute we were there. There has got to be a ton of little stuff you take for granted as a Texan that the other states just get shorted on- like you guys have Buc-ee's! We haven't seen anywhere else you can grab some good food at a gas station.

We didn’t! But if it makes it up to you we pounded in and out at the one just outside of New Braunfels. One of our greatest Texas regrets is not buying Finny a bucees tank.
