We are big history buffs, so we went to San Antonio for our honeymoon. The mission trail was a blast. You can get a mission passport. Every mission has their own stamp to stamp in it. I am sure things have changed since 1998. The Healing Wall is AMAZING! We had one come to Manteca, CA, but it had a wall for Korea and Desert Storm I and II. We took our girls to see it. It is a huge homeschooling learning point in history. We are so THANKFUL to all the soldiers who have served.

Thank you guys for putting San Antonio on our Radar Screen!! We just stopped in 8 day's ago and had a fantastic time. Pearl was a blast as they had an open air market going on the Saturday we were in town. Alamo, small but powerful. As much as I thought I knew about the events leading up and afterwards, the museum provided a much deeper understanding. And we found an ancestor of ours, (Wilhelm "William G" Hill) who was a Colonists who took part in the Rebellion of Texas in December of 1835. Was wicked cool to see that one. Overall, San Antonio was an amazing, vibrant town that we have put on our "must return" list. I appreciate your video even more now that we have visited this city. As always, Beat Army!

I saw the "real" wall in DC in the late 80's. Cried like a baby. I was born in '63, so I "missed" having to go. My older cousin enlisted, and thankfully returned safely. Just watching the mobile wall segment in this video made me "weepy". My son and his wife were both Marines, and I thank them daily for their service. Thank you two also, for your service. Jayman...

@@todayissomeday I didn't tell them who requested if, I just said I was asked to do this. Hardy handshakes just wasn't enough. They both did 2 tours in the "sandbox" of afghanistan, and even though they're doing pretty well, it's evident what they went through has affected them,, (which we don't ask about, they "leak" vague details rarely), so it warranted hugs! They both got big hugs and a thank you for serving us today, thanks for the reminder guys. Like I would do with you, if we ever meet. They were both a little confused and taken back at first, but realized the sentiment and appreciated it so unexpectedly. Since it's been a while since I've thanked them. Jayman...

Hello from Poland. Some time ago I have started watching Your trip of life on Ruby deck. And I decide to put a comment after watching this video. We here in Poland exactly know how important is to remember all Heroes who did fight for our freedom. Our nations are even common heroes as Kazimierz Pulaski or Tadeusz Kosciuszko who also did fight for american freedom. As Stacy siad war is always very horrible thing. In a month, on 1st of September we will be commemorate 80th anniversary of starting IIWW. We are glad in Poland that our tragedy will remember with us Mr President Donald Trump. During this War over 6 million Polish citizens were died. And we are also thankful to US Army hereos who did fight on our land with both germans and russians agressors! ....and for Phil whi is also Catholic a link to Polish most precious Sanctuary in our history. Over centuries all our Kings always always came to that special place asking for protection. There is our heart of Polish nation. jasnagora.pl/en/about-sanctuary/from-the-history-of-jg/ a lot of us tourists visit this place. I hope that soon I will be close to Your last video. Have a nice RVing :-)

Excellent video. Great video work and editing. I love your comment about hate the war not the warrior. We don't have to agree with all the decisions that the leaders of our country makes to send us into war but the men and women fighting for us are to be honored. There are two groups that I think are not recognized and supported enough and that is the families of veterans and wounded veterans.

One day we will have to go back to San Antonio. We went there for a vacation a few years back and one week was not enough time. I need to check out all of the other missions that you visited as well as more thoroughly explore the Pearl district. I fell in love with the San Antonio area and the vibe of the city. As for the word 'smidgen' it's good Phil got that haircut before you visited that last mission. When he walked through that doorway he just barely missed hitting the top of his head by a 'smidgen'. Phew - that extra hair would have bit the dust had he not got that haircut!

Right! We are thinking men must have been really short back in the day. Either that or they endured occasional head bashings! You wont even recognize the Pearl. It has changed so much just in the last 9 months we hardly recognize it. It is one of our favorite places though!

I saw the wall in DC almost 23 years ago. A young man who lived across the street from me died in 1968 when I was about 13. I was able to find his name and it was very moving. It was over the Memorial Day weekend and the Rolling Thunder (motorcycle group) were there. There were booths set up with info and some merch. There was one that had POW/MIA bracelets. I picked one up and was floored! The soldier's name had my maiden name, married name and my middle initial on it. I had to buy it and still have it! We also got to see the first female soldier who guarded the tomb of the unknowns (I guess it's only unknown now). I encourage every American to visit the Mall in DC and Arlington National Cemetery. And if possible a trek down to Fredricksburg, VA and take in all the "old history" there. In the town I live we have a veteran's memorial with panels with all the soldier's names (from our county) who died in the various foreign wars. It's a moving tribute but also a really beautiful art installation. San Antonio is on my bucket list.

I'm glad you were able to visit each of the missions. Funny how many people think 1) it's only the Alamo and 2) are surprised by the small scale of the Alamo. I wish more of the Missions could have been saved, but (as a former history teacher and having lived in San Antonio for seven years) I'm happy to see how much has been preserved. Glad you rode the trail as well, it's a nice ride and a good workout. ;-) Safe travels!

Love the traveling memorial! If you get a chance to go see ALL the memorials in DC please do so. The Korean War memorial is actually my favorite (even though they are all fantastic and it is hard to choose) The best place to visit though is Arlington National Cemetery and watch the changing of the guard....the most moving thing I've seen....just something about it.

I will revise my suggestion from a couple of videos ago to add “electric pedal assist” to the get folding bikes suggestion. The high quality ones are a bit pricey, but last years.

Have a look at the Montague Navigator. I have an older Montague bike and it feels real stable unlike other folding bikes I tried. Feels more like my Trek. Test ride a few folding bikes and you’ll see what I mean. The Navigator looked right for you coming off treks and what looks like you going on packed dirt paths needing slightly wider tires. Also look at Bicycling magazine bicycling.com review of folding bikes (came out yesterday) to other brands and price ranges. Again expect to pay a little more than what you have now to get the same quality and ride in a folding bike. Jack

Wow! I'm so sick of all the worldwide war-mongering; as the old ballad asks, "when will we ever learn?"
