San Antonio is one of the most unique cities in the country. It has a fascinating history which dates back further than nearly any large city in the country. Thank you for watching: San Antonio Overview | An informative introduction to San Antonio, Texas.

One thing about the San Antonio skyline is that it is specifically spaced out so that buildings shadows can't cast over the Alamo, which explains the weird spacing between the cities tallest buildings.

Nice job on San Antonio. The Riverwalk also has a fleet of tour boats that are well worth the time and price. The tour guides LOVE their city and history and often ham it up with a great sense of humor. Best time to go is Spring or Late October. Summers are hot just like all of South Texas. If you are looking for a beautiful skyline, visit San Antonio’s little sister…Austin. It’s newer and taller each year!

San Antonio resident here... I get that you have to talk about the "largest cowboy boots" as a landmark, but I have to admit that those boots have close to zero impact on life here. Honestly, if I were a tourist, I wouldn't waste the time to go see them. On the other hand, San Antonio's Greenway trail system and other public parks (including the Japanese Tea Garden) are hidden gems that I don't think may people know about but are 100% worth the time. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Good job! You got a lot of stuff on here and made everything short sweet and to the point. As my home city is San Antonio, I can definitely say that there's something that brings people back here for some reason, and to be honest, I think it's that the city has charm. So many good tourist sites, lots of sunshine, lots of green, we've got the Hill Country, amazing culture and some of the best Mexican food you can find nestled in this small big city. It's an amazing place that I'm proud to call home!

Only been to San Antonio once and that's was in 1995 for a The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod church youth gathering. We stayed at the new build Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown the river goes right into to the hotel. The time we were down there was when Selena got killed. I remember that night at the Alamodome 64 thousand youth praying for Selena. On the way back to the hotel people driving around downtown honking their horns of cars trucks vans waving the Mexico flags out of windows as they drove by. It's one of the experiences in my life that has always been with me.

The main reason why it's so ignored is because Austin is less than 100 miles away to the north. Same reason why San Jose always gets ignored in favor of San Francisco.

I loved your video! I am from Austin originally with family roots in San Antonio and I just moved “back” to the city my roots. I absolutely love the aspects that make it such a unique city in our state and country. I am lucky to have a view of the Tower of Americas from my condo and I was always wondering how it compared height wise to other towers in the country so thanks for that info! IMPORTANT: as an Austin native, if you are looking for “the city” please move to Austin. San Antonio is built for true Texans and not transplants. I promise you will not like it here ;)

San Antonio's downtown skyline is short because legally no building is allowed to cast a shadow on the Alamo due to its sacred place in Texas history. Also, there are ordinances around the San Antonio Missions to ensure no buildings mar the view of the Missions in the surrounding area.

The cost of living is fairly low. While inflation isn’t helping rent is fairly affordable in many of the suburbs and ho,e prices are starting to level out. Wages are the problem, many trades don’t offer the same income leveled that they would in most other large cities which contributes to keeping the cost of living down. There are also a lack of higher end professional positions here keeping the working market more focused on skilled trades rather than large scale executive trades.

Great video about San Antonio however the skyline views you chose to show do not give San Antonio's skyline much justice it does not show the skyline in it's entirety or the buildings that were recently built. San Antonio's downtown has great density and infill and a large footprint that has a long list of historic districts that are considered the downtown area. San Antonio is the 7th largest city and the 24th largest metro with nearly 2.7 million people. Metros such as SLC are not larger than San Antonio because it's not an apples to apples comparison due to the difference in territory size. The only way SLC can be slightly bigger than the SA metro is if it covers an area that stretches for over 120 miles long. That is further than San Antonio to the Georgetown, Texas which is the outskirts of Metro Austin. San Antonio and Austin are becoming like a CSA of more than 5 million people but now only considered a corridor. Comparing metro SA with Dallas/Ft.Worth region and Houston/Gulf Coast region is not a fair comparison either because of territory size as well it would be a more fair comparison to include San Antonio, Shertz, New Braunfels, Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, Austin, Round Rock, through Georgetown which is pretty much a contiguous urban expanse of about 5 million people. San Antonio' s dense population distribution is not in it's southern counties that are mostly rural but along I-10 North, 281 North and 1-35 from San Antonio through Austin-Round Rock. San Antonio metro by itself, I would compare it or consider it to be peers with St.Louis and Baltimore for similar metro population range and urbanized population. San Antonio's downtown skyline may not be very tall and modern but it has beautiful historic architecture. The low building stock of glass modern skyscrapers is probably due to most of its F 500 or other multi billion dollar corporations being located outside the downtown area. Lastly, San Antonio is experiencing tremendous growth and the skyline should become more impressive over the next few years with several new skyscrapers planned with a new 32 story residential tower about to break ground soon and several 20 plus floor high rises residential towers planned.
@CityGeek
@CityGeek 2 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for taking the time to write out that comment! Yeah the clips I have access to are a little outdated but the figures I shared should be accurate. San Antonio is home to several sports teams such as NCAA l's UTSA Roadrunners football program, NBA's San Antonio Spurs, Double-A central baseball San Antonio Missions, USL's San Antonio FC, and in 2005, the New Orleans Saints played three home games in the Alamodome vs Chiefs, Falcons and Lions, due to hurricane katrina.

San Antonio is built on flat plains, so it is cheap to build out, rather than up. It’s more like a giant suburb with military bases and parks. My mom was born there in 1929, and grew up there and so did I. I had a great childhood there, but I dreamed of mountains and oceans and surfing, so when I became an adult I moved to California, then Hawaii. The River Walk is a good time. I went to the NCAA Final Four when it was held there one year. Great place to hold it.

Lived there for many years and it was boring as hell lol just a bunch of Tex-Mex tourist traps and chain restaurants and no character. Literally when I left Mayor Ivy Taylor said “millennials don’t want to live here, they all move to Austin” and that exactly described me🤣 BUT a lot has changed in the last decade or so and the cost of living is low so I understand why it’s desirable NOW. It’s great for families with young kids, it has a huge nice zoo and lots of theme parks nearby and tons of shopping and entertainment. The local art scene in King William really exploded with the First Friday art walk which is essentially a monthly block party. There are tons of universities and it’s a nice place for a college kid but yeah downtown sucks there’s nothing to do and the skyline is hideous lol the river walk is great but not the part shown in the video, start at The Pearl which is a cute walkable neighborhood centered around a historic brewery and it’s not all tacky touristy like the downtown section shown in the video. The farmers market there is huge and really fun, I go every time I visit. Anyways, SA is much much better than it was 15 years ago but it’s still essentially a giant suburb. If you want a fun exciting city move to Austin or Houston, both are two hours away and are way better in my opinion lol the BEST thing about SA is how cheap and authentic and easily accessible tex mex food is (avoid the tourist traps though!). That’s the only thing I think SA does better than any of the other big Texas cities. Austin has shit breakfast tacos don’t do it save your money lol

The reason why the SKYLINE is SHORTER and SPREAD OUT IN AREAS is because of HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS NEAR THE ALAMO. That's always HINDERED VERTICAL GROWTH in downtown San Antonio. You can never judge a city by its skyline without knowing its history and why its like that. However, there are going to be several skyscrapers and highrises going up over the next several years that will change the skyline of downtown San Antonio and add to its unique beauty.
