Upon further research I found that the station was partially renovated and reopened in 2004. There is a snack shop and office space within the facility. Thank you Huell Howser for such wonderful documentaries throughout your lifetime. Rest in Peace Huell.

There is a nice train, fire, & city museum open sadly only on Saturday. Though it's a great place to hang out & spend some time. Especially if you're a rail foamer!

The greatest memories I have of the San Bernardino Depot were the sounds that would echo off the massive concrete walls, the heels of leather shoes clicking on the polished ceramic tiles, and the tremendous rattle of the glass enclosures, full of clerks pounding away on old manual typewriters. My father was a Train Master in this station off and on from the late 1940's until the early 1970's. During the 1960's, my brother and I would sometimes have the opportunity of tagging along with Dad on Saturdays while he checked into his office to ensure all was well. From his second story office, we had a perfect view out the windows overlooking locomotives switching freight cars in the yard below. My father, William (Bill) Baxter, loved working for the railroad, not just because of the nature of the work, (trying to keep trains on schedule, especially during derailments and/or washed-out bridges) but also for the friendships he made with others equally willing to work hard long hour to keep the trains running safely and with efficiency. Thanks for the video and the memories it brings. I will share it with all my siblings. Scott Baxter

I grew up there and also was good friends with Huell later when we were neighbors. Neither San Bernardino nor Huell are with us now.

thank you, we were wondering what year this was filmed. After watching this episode we had to go and visit the station, wow it looks incredible. Was wonderful to see just how much work went into preserving it. They also revitalized surrounding buildings in that part of town. Awesome San Bernardino, money well spent. Huell would of have loved it. R.I.P. Mr. Howser, and thank you for representing our beautiful state with your documentaries.

Huell was the epitome of how to be humble. We are so lucky he chose his own direction in his travels. No big name networks he had to answer to. Gone too soon. 😥
