I'm not sure but I think the dude and the chick are the same people because there are a few shots of them doing the same thing (the shot from inside the boot) and he keeps picking up rocks possibly to kill the snake but he never actually does it and they both just keep running away from their problems which might be alluding to the lyrics that reference self-destructing. The music video is also set in a desert in the middle of nowhere which may be referencing. This to the lyrics about how he has lost a few close friends and he believes it is his fault. This makes me think that he may have run into the desert and left all his friends and family and is in a self-destructive cycle which loops round and round and never ends.
