I grew up at that pier in the 80's. I can still smell the unique mix of the sand (sc piers sand is mixed a bit with the clay and silt deposits of the surrounding hills), the dust in the rocks around the railroad tracks and the corn dogs that used to get made at the snack bar. It's the smell associated with the pure stoke, joy and wonder I felt on a day at the beach with my mom and sister. Much love from a 47 year old dad and still stoked (sidewalk) surfer in Spokane, Washington!

Great clips , so good to see this. I was a local there when I was a grom. Fomenko, griswana, Archie , dino, and other local shredders we're people I looked up to. I was accepted to surf there when I was like 11 or 12 in 1980 1981, 82 , my old best friend Shane Jenkins got me in accepted into the local crew. . Only locals were allowed to hang out right infront of that brick cinder block type wall. God I miss those days.

Went out there for a casual swim one day, just on the other side of the pier. Out about 40 yards from the sand found a concrete block with a piece of rebar with a tip spear sharp and pointed up at the surface.

A not uncommon pier problem is to get the leash hung up on a barnacled piling above the sea level. Sometimes the swirl under the pier will suck your cord around and stick like a climbing piton. As the wave passes, you are left there dangling and reaching for your ankle which is about impossible. Big laughs from the peanut gallery.

Yes, Drew adds 3 coats of Clear Spray to the surfboard paintings. The paint will never come off, unless you sand it off.
