Nice work Chris! My son and I fished Mission today with my dad just spectating. We got 14 spotties and 5 little halibut, nice incoming tide from about 0815 to 11:15. 3/8oz underspins with Keitech swimbaits got most of them. My son picked up a couple on a 1/2oz swimjig with craw trailer. Your go to reminds me of back in the day when I would use a 2 inch GULP shrimp on a 1/8oz jighead. I would crush them one after the other over by north island.

Great video! I'm very familure with that area. I never fished it in a tube, although, I have fished it a lot in a kayak and boats. You never know what you might catch in San Diego Bay. I will tell you my go to rigs for this area. If you are fishing the flats in front of the NAWB in shallow water, I use the 2" Gulp Shrimp New Penny on a 1/4 oz red leadhead fished on a 6 lb spinning rig. Cast out, let it hit the bottom, and work it back slowly. You will know when you might get a bite. it won't be suttle though. Also a rig everyone should carry in the bay is a 3/4 oz Chartreuse willow blade Strike King spinning bait on a stout 7 ft 10-12 lb mono baitcasting setup. Forget a spinning rig, and a "buggywhip" rod with the spinnerbait! The reason you need the heavy rod and 10-12lb mono is the spotties hit that lure like a runaway freight train with the throttle stuck wide open! They are vicious! Also, try trolling the spinnerbait when you are going from one place to another. I have caught more fish than I can remember doing that. The only time you really need a spinning rod is if you are fishing 6lb test or lighter. A crankbait in that area can be effective. Different lipped bass plugs have worked for me Try trolling a jointed Rebel shallow diving blue & chrome Fastrac plug. If the spotties aren't home on the shallow flats, most likely they are out deep in the channel. There is a deep channel running parrallel to the Coronado Bridge from Glorietta bay out to the main channel. You can locate that with a depth finder. Try the spinnerbait or, my absolute favorite #1 favorite bait for the bay, a 4" Gulp New Penny Shrimp on a 1/2 oz red leadhead on a "STOUT" 7 ft graphite rod with 10-12 lb test mono. No buggywhips! A stiff firm heavy graphite 7ft rod is what you use. Drag it along the bottom. If you think you are hung up, you aren't. It's a bite! Swing for the fence! The same goes for the main channel. Same rig. Same technique. Just follow the tides. On an incoming tide, for example, position yourself in the channel. You will be drifting South. Cast out North with the 4" Gulp Shrimp with a 1/2 oz red leadhead and the heavy baitcasting 10-12 lb 7 ft graphite rig. Let out a ton of line. Put it in gear. Let it bounce along the bottom. When you think you are hung up, swing for the fence! You will be rewarded with some MASSIVE spotties, I promise you! Also, if Bonita are in the area, throw a blue and chrome 3/4 oz Rattletrap. Throw it out on that heavy rig. Let it sink to different depths, then steady wind it back to you. Try different speeds until you find one that works. I have also caught many log Barracuda under the Coronado Bridge in my kayak and in a boat slow trolling a jointed deep diving blue and silver Rebel Spoonbill lure on 10-12lb mono. In my Buddie's boat, in early January, we lost count of how many log barracuda we caught in a morning trolling blue and chrome jointed Rebel Spoonbill deep diving plugs on 10-12 lb test mono. We left hem biting! 25-30 fish conservative. Caught and released. Also in the main channel, on a 6lb spinning setup, rig up a dropshot setup with a #6-#8 hook 18" above a 1 oz torpedo sinker. Hook on a 2" Gulp New Penny Shrimp. Drift the deep 35ft channel with this setup. You will catch more fish than you can count. It is especially a lot of fun for the kids. Most of them get bored quick, because they don't catch anything. Not with this setup! They will catch fish after fish after fish! San Diego Bay is the best inshore fishery on the Westcoast. You truly never know what you might catch.

caught a close 30 inch vampire near there on sunday on 2 inch tube bait on very light spinning setup...not ultra light i kinda stopped using ultra light since most the fish im getting are bass and vampires and bonefish and my lure tends to be casted and drifted far and i need at least a light power rod to set the hook from far away, light set up is like ultra light at the bay
