My parents bought a house in Rancho Santa Fe in 1984 for about $250k. It had at least half an acre of land and a small horse corral.

Bring back these prices so people can get their feet on the ground and take care of their loved ones.

Everyone and their dog are moving, or want to move to, San Diego. Its simply getting too crowded here although it is understandable because San Diego is the best city to live America when you factor in many things that make this region prime real estate.

Not gonna happen, it’s just too solidly consistent a desirable area. We were among the last to buy at these cheap prices. 18 years after this newscast we were still able to purchase a 1600 sf, 70 y.o. home for $179k, which happened to be exactly the average price of the day. It’s worth a crazy $1.3M today! The neighborhood buyer demographics skew radically differently today than when we bought, that’s for sure. Not always a good thing. I feel for the young service workers and middle managers that we were when we bought, there is no way you are seeing those buyers anymore.

My parents bought their first house in 77 in south oceanside. They paid 60,000 then. My dad kicks himself. What he wanted to do to the house back then, everyone is doing now. Houses in South I, are at least 650,00 or more

I'm so pissed. I missed these cheap prices by 20 years. I've lived in San Diego for almost that amount of time. My only "affordable" alternative is a mobile home probably east of any of these prime spots. Time travel! Just saying, man! Sigh. ☹

Man I wasn't even alive. Only if I can get a home for that price
